A powerful singer and great slide guitarist, Ellen McIlwaine should have been widely accepted, in my opinion, yet she had more of a cult following than anything else. See for yourself tonight.

I would love to have been in this amazing natural music venue listening to this incredible blues-rock band. I’m not doing big venue concerts anymore. Done with that at my age. But if I could be persuaded to change my mind, it would be for Tedeschi Trucks. (Or The Beatles and Linda Ronstadt, which we know is not going to happen.)

There’s nobody quite like Big Mama. In fact, The House of Blues in New Orleans boasts ‘Big Mama’s Lounge.’ Today we’ve got the original Hound Dog singer in session with the Muddy Waters Blues band.

Dr. Tom Petty had a vision for the band’s future that had them sitting around in chairs playing the blues in the elder years, just like the photo on this blog. Unfortunately for us all, Tom never got there, but The Heartbreakers had a great appreciation for the blues and its musicians and they played plenty of blues while he was on the planet. We’ve got it for you tonight as we continue to celebrate Tom Petty Month.

This only bolsters my belief that music critics are an acquired taste.
