The Final Work Day Brings Dylan & Harrison, Lennon & McCartney and Some ‘Live’ Bonnie Raitt, Friday, March 8, 2024

Good morning, music lovers! We are at the last day of the work week (for most; not all) and we’ve got a great lineup today along with a whole lot of wide Open Stream.

Here’s your musical lineup:

10:00 a.m. Bob Dylan & George Harrison: The Columbia Sessions, May 1, 1970

On May Day in 1970, Bob Dylan and George Harrison sneaked into Studio B at Columbia Studios in New York and recorded together for 12 hours. We’ve got it here.

4:00 p.m. Singer-Songwriter Series: The Music of John Lennon & Paul McCartney FINAL AIRING!

Today we not only bid a fond farewell to Lennon & McCartney, whose greatness cannot be denied, but also to the singer-songwriter series itself. It could very well be back again, but it has run its course for the time being.

8:00 p.m. Bonnie Raitt Live at The Record Plant, Sausalito, CA, December 9, 1973

We close the programming in fine style with some great live Bonnie Raitt, vintage 1973.

Another day in musical paradise awaits, my friends. We are on 24/7 and are dedicated to free music. No credit card required. No personal information asked. Try it.

Good morning, music lovers! We are at midweek. After today, it’s all a downslide to the weekend. But today? Today we start off with ‘The Founders.’

Here’s your musical lineup:

The artists that were instrumental in the creation of rock and roll are in The Lounge today. You’ll hear Chuck Berry, Fats Domino, Little Richard, Bo Diddley, Jerry Lee Lewis, Elvis Presley, The Everly Brothers, Buddy Holly, Big Mama Thornton, Big Joe Turner, Hank Williams, Bill Haley & His Comets, Ray Charles, The Drifters, Roy Orbison, Robert Johnson, Carl Perkins, Eddie Cochran, Johnny Cash, Muddy Waters and more!

Tonight we close out the programming with Maria Muldaur live at Ebbets Field as we continue to celebrate Women’s (Music) History Month.

Monday Brings Our ‘By The Numbers’ Playlist, Shawn Colvin’s Spotlight and Lennon-McCartney, March 4, 2024

Good morning, music lovers! We’re back to the work week, but all is well here in The Lounge. Today we close out our singer-songwriter series with the best.

Here’s your Monday music:

10:00 a.m. By The Numbers: Various Artists

We start with songs with numbers in the title, lyrics or both from Three Dog Night, Chicago, J. J. Cale, Steely Dan, Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, Jefferson Airplane, Alice Cooper, The Beatles, Emmylou Harris, The Grass Roots, The Lovin’ Spoonful, Paul Simon, Rosanne Cash, Johnny Rivers, The Searchers and more!

3:00 p.m. In The Spotlight: The Music of Shawn Colvin

It’s Women’s History Month, so we feel the need to pick up our game here a bit in the month of March. We start today by putting singer-songwriter Shawn Colvin in the spotlight.

We close out this version of our Singer-Songwriter Series with the best songwriting duo in the history of popular music from the band that changed everything. Nothing else needs to be said. All you need to do is listen.

At Midweek It’s Vol. 2 of Our Sixties Rotation, Tom Petty, and ‘Live’ Peter Tosh, Wednesday, February 28, 2023

Good morning, music lovers and welcome to another day in The Lounge. We’ve got more sixties, Tom Petty’s incredible songwriting on display, and some ‘live’ Peter Tosh later.

Here’s your midweek music:

9:00 a.m. The Sixties Rotation, Volume Two: Various Artists

We’ve got them all. In addition to all the above artists, you’ll hear Chuck Berry, Roy Orbison, the Temptations, B. B. King, Marvin Gaye, Elvis Presley, The Yardbirds, The Animals, Wilson Pickett, the Stone Poneys, The Band, the Box Tops, Jimmy Cliff, Velvet Underground, Strawberry Alarm Clock and more!

4:00 p.m. Singer-Songwriter Series: The Music of Tom Petty

Dr. Petty is back with his second turn as our featured singer-songwriter for this week as we wind down on this year-long feature.

8:00 p.m. In the Spotlight: The Music of Peter Tosh

Peter Tosh was an original founder of The Wailers before he set out on a successful solo career. Tonight we put him In the Spotlight.

Once again we’re on 24/7 and are totally free. No charge ever, no credit card requirement and no personal information asked. We’re all about the music.

It’s Our ‘Original Sixties Rotation’ EP, The Association, and Tom Petty as Our Featured Singer-Songwriter, Monday, February 26, 2024

Good morning, music lovers! We are starting off the week with a rare EP on a Monday, but it’s a short month and we have to get this one in. We are also winding down on our Singer-Songwriter Series, saving the best for last. This week we introduce Tom Petty as our featured artist. Next week? It’s Lennon & McCartney.

Here’s your musical Monday:

9:00 a.m. The Original Sixties Rotation: Various Artists

One of two major sixties playlists airs today. You’ll hear The Beatles, The Monkees, Sonny & Cher, Joe Cocker, Simon & Garfunkel, Little Eva, The Everly Brothers, The Searchers, Dusty Springfield, The Drifters, The Dave Clark Five, Johnny Rivers, Bob Dylan, The Animals, Petula Clark, The Rolling Stones, Procol Harum, The Turtles, Del Shannon, The Temptations, James Brown, Fontella Bass, The Box Tops, Blues Image, Booker T & The MG’s, The Four Tops, The Lovin’ Spoonful, Them, The Left Banke, Fats Domino and more!

4:00 p.m. The Association Live at The Salt Palace, Salt Lake City, Utah, April 3, 1970

I love airing the old bands. It’s often tough to find ‘live’ performances but, if you persevere, you can find some. This is a great performance from The Salt Palace.

We’re winding down on this great series which has taken us through nearly a year. We’ve saved the best for the end. This week we feature Dr. Tom Petty, certainly the most prolific and consequential songwriter of his generation via The Heartbreakers, Mudcrutch, The Traveling Wilburys and his solo career. Every single song on this playlist is a Petty composition, and this is just the tip of the iceberg.

We Start Out With ‘Live’ Kinks, Then It’s Willie Nelson and America, on (Finally) Friday, February 23, 2024

Good morning, music lovers! We are doing something a bit different and kicking off the programming with some ‘live’ music. Then we move on to Willie Nelson and close out the programming with America.

Here’s today’s musical lineup:

9:00 a.m. The Kinks Live at The Palladium, New York, NY, December 31, 1980

We kick off the day with The Kinks’ New Year’s Eve performance from 1980.

2:00 p.m. Singer-Songwriter Series: The Music of Willie Nelson FINAL AIRING!

Today is Willie’s final day as this week’s featured singer-songwriter. But don’t worry, his music is part of our daily standard rotation.

8:00 p.m. In the Spotlight: The Music of America

I always refer to America as a ‘great little band’ for some reason. I think that’s because I believe their music somehow got lost in the shuffle of the seventies. Their string of hits wasn’t lost, but their absolute best music remained in the background, and their creativity really took off when a guy named Sir George Martin (the fifth Beatle) began working with them. We believe they belong In the Spotlight.

Yes, we’ve made it to the end of another work week as I contemplate more changes to the programming (mostly related to airing programs in the late-night hours for our worldwide audiences). In the meantime, we remain free 24/7 with no commercial interruption. Give us a shot. The button’s below.

We Take a Trip On ‘The Psychedelic Express’, Then It’s Willie Nelson and ‘Live’ Traffic, Wednesday, February 21, 2024

Good morning, music lovers! We open and close the programming today with great bands from the psychedelic music era. In between, it’s outlaw Willie Nelson.

Here’s your musical lineup:

9:00 a.m. The Psychedelic Express: Various Artists

Certainly one of my favorite sixties musical genres. This EP has all the best bands of the era, plus some bands who simply pay homage to the genre. You’ll hear Vanilla Fudge, The Chambers Brothers, The Beatles, Electric Prunes, The Animals, Jefferson Airplane, Creedence Clearwater Revival, The Doors, Pink Floyd, Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, Donovan, Strawberry Alarm Clock, The Byrds, Jimi Hendrix Experience, Traffic, Cream, Dr. John, Procol Harum, Fleetwood Mac, The Who, Canned Heat, Yes, Electric Light Orchestra, Tommy James & The Shondells, Mudcrutch, Blind Faith, The Grateful Dead, Velvet Underground, Big Brother & The Holding Company and more!

4:00 p.m. Singer-Songwriter Series: The Music of Willie Nelson

Willie’s back for his second spin as our featured singer-songwriter.

We close out the psychedelic programming with the amazing Steve Winwood and Traffic, live from the Fillmore East in New York.

We’ve Got Willie Nelson as Our Featured Singer-Songwriter and Our ‘A Little Bit O’ Soul’ EP, Monday, February 19, 2024

Good morning, music lovers! We’ve got a great Monday on tap today with Willie Nelson as this week’s featured singer-songwriter and our big, bad soul EP this afternoon into evening.

Here’s your musical lineup:

You had to know we’d get around to the original Outlaw here in The Mermaid Lounge and today is that day.

3:00 p.m. A Little Bit O’ Soul: Various Artists

We’ve got our big, bad soul EP up at midday with Aretha Franklin, The Temptations, The Four Tops, The Ronettes, Marvin Gaye, Ray Charles, Otis Redding, Jimmy Ruffin, The Drifters, Chuck Berry, Stevie Wonder, Carla Thomas, James Brown, The Shirelles, Etta James, Curtis Mayfield, Sam & Dave, The Staple Singers, Nina Simone, LaVern Baker, The Supremes, Sam Cooke, Edwin Starr, Fontella Bass, Smokey Robinson & The Miracles, Irma Thomas, The Box Tops, Jr. Walker & The All Stars, Eddie Floyd, Percy Sledge, The Ad Libs, Joe Tex, Wanda Jackson, Ann Peebles, Al Green and more!

On Friday It’s The Band ‘Live’ in Asbury Park, Elvis Costello, John Prine and Joni ‘Live’ in Cali, February 16, 2024

Good morning, music lovers! We have a busy Friday on tap for you all today with a great collection of artists sprinkeled into our big, wide Open Stream.

Here’s your musical lineup:

9:00 a.m. Singer-Songwriter Series: The Music of Elvis Costello FINAL AIRING!

Elvis Costello takes his final turn as this week’s featured singer-songwriter. We’ll have a new artist for you on Monday.

12:00 p.m. The Band Live at The Casino Arena, Asbury Park, NJ, July 20, 1976

The Band is very simply one of the best ever bands on the popular music scene. They started as Bob Dylan’s back-up band and became one of the most influential musical entities of their time. If we added a new House Band, it would be these guys.

4:00 p.m. In The Spotlight: The Music of John Prine

We’re dusting this baby off as we have been remiss. Mr. Prine is one fine singer-songwriter and a man who is most respected by his peers. He always had a unique outlook on life and his wry and sometimes sarcastic viewpoints were part of his charm.

8:00 p.m. Joni Mitchell Live at the Santa Barbara Bowl, Santa Barbara, CA, September 9, 1979

We close things out by taking a trip back with Joni Mitchell to her 1979 Shadows and Light Tour. I was lucky enough to see that tour as it passed through Boston.

We have a great lineup today as we toy with expanding programming and, perhaps, even into the wee hours of the morning. It’s a work in progress. One thing that will not change, however, is the fact that we are totally free 24/7 with no commercial interruptions.

It’s Valentines Day and Love Is In the Air, Along With Elvis Costello as Our Singer-Songwriter, Wednesday, February 14, 2024

Good morning, musicologists! Yes, it’s Valentines Day once again. Time for love (and, of course, loss), and we’re giving you both sides of the coin today!

Here’s your musical lineup:

10:00 a.m. True Love Always: Various Artists

Yes, we start out with the romantic side of the coin first with The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, The Mamas & The Papas, The Band, Delaney & Bonnie, Swing Out Sister, Boz Scaggs, Guy Clark, Tom Rush, The Hollies, Neil Young, The Lovin’ Spoonful, Bonnie Raitt, Linda Ronstadt and more!

4:00 p.m.  Singer-Songwriter Series: The Music of Elvis Costello

Another Elvis drops by The Lounge today on his second spin as our featured singer-songwriter for the week.

8:00 p.m.  Nothing But Heartbreak: Various Artists

Then, there’s the other side of the “love” coin. You’ll hear Carole King, Elvis Presley, Linda Ronstadt, Emmylou Harris, Aretha Franklin, Ray Charles, Warren Zevon, Rod Stewart, Cat Stevens, The Pretenders, Them, Jackson Browne, John Prine and more!

We’re on point and in tune today, and love is in the air. We’re on 24/7 with no commercial interruption and at no cost to the general public. No lie. No bait and switch. We’re all about the music. See for yourself. Use the button below.
