We’ve Hit The Midweek Point With ‘The Psychedelic Express’ EP and Volume Two of ‘Repeat After Me’, Wednesday, April 20, 2022

And holy weed, Batman, it’s also 4/20! Quite an appropriate day to be taking a trip on ‘The Psychedelic Express!” You also heard volume one of ‘Repeat After Me’ on Monday, so we’ve got volume two this evening, and we’re working on a third volume as well!

Get on board, musicologists! You don’t need no stinkin’ tickets!

Here’s today’s line-up:

10:00 a.m. The Psychedelic Express: Various Artists

On this fine 4/20, you’ll hear Vanilla Fudge, The Chambers Brothers, The Beatles, The Electric Prunes, The Animals, Jefferson Airplane, Blues Image, Creedence Clearwater Revival, The Doors, Pink Floyd, Donovan, Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, Strawberry Alarm Clock, The Byrds, the Jimi Hendrix Experience, Traffic, Cream, Dr. John, Procol Harum, Big Brother & The Holding Company, Fleetwood Mac, The Who, Canned Heat, Tommy James & The Shondells, Yes, Electric Light Orchestra, Mudcrutch, Blind Faith, Grateful Dead, The Velvet Underground, and more!

It’s Snowing Outside The Mermaid Lounge, but We’ve Got Our Sixties Rotation EP and Donovan In The Spotlight To Get Us Through This Mess, Friday, February 25, 2022

Good Morning, Musicologists! If you live here in the Boston area, you know that we were all standing outside a couple of days ago without so much as a jacket on. Today? Today, it’s another foot of snow. Welcome to New England in February. But we’ve got some hot tunes here for you today.

Comin’ at you at 11:00 a.m. EST. The music that inspired us!

Here’s your Friday musical landscape:

11:00 a.m. The Sixties Rotation, Volume Two: Various Artists

There’s no sense denying it, we here in The Mermaid Lounge are lost in the past and find no release in most (but not all) of today’s music. People tell me I must be open-minded, but I actually don’t. Nope. Life is too short to listen to bad music. So, we don’t. This is the music that inspired the station. You’ll hear The Beatles, Simon & Garfunkel, Grateful Dead, Janis Joplin, The Four Tops, Buffalo Springfield, Roy Orbison, The Yardbirds, Bob Dylan, James Brown, Chuck Berry, Donovan, The Box Tops, Vanilla Fudge, Sly & The Family Stone, Cream, The Zombies, The Doors, The Chambers Brothers, The Rolling Stones, The Animals, The Who, The Temptations, and more! That’s five hours of commercial-free, uninterrupted music.

7:00 p.m. In The Spotlight: The Music of Donovan

Donovan was a very big part of the sixties sounds, so his presence in the spotlight today is particularly fitting. His unique sound came from fusing pop, jazz, folk, psychedelic rock and world music. He was a favorite when I was young, and remains so today.

In a few hours, I’ll be digging myself out and heading off to work. But if you don’t have to be anywhere today, this would be a great day to tune us in. All you have to do is give us a shot. And we’re not talking about buying a subscription that you can “cancel anytime.” Don’t you love that shit? We do not require a credit card or a subscription here. The only thing you must have is an Internet connection. End of story.

What Better Way to Start Your Weekend Than ‘Under The Influence’ With Neil Young & LIVE DEAD? Saturday, January 15, 2022

Good Morning, Audiophiles! We begin another weekend (well, you do; I’ve got one more day of servitude) with a great EP about being under the influence, our AOW, and LIVE DEAD! later.

We’ve got another great episode of LIVE DEAD! coming up later tonight!

Here’s your Saturday line-up:

11:00 a.m. Under The Influence: Various Artists

Come on. Fess up. We’ve all been under the influence at one time or another, and with both legal and illegal substances. Don’t deny it. Musicians rarely deny it. In fact, they sing about it. You’ll hear from The Doors, Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, Arlo Guthrie, The Byrds, Donovan, Glenn Frey, Linda Ronstadt, Jonathan Edwards, Small Faces, The Rolling Stones, The Jimi Hendrix Experience, Pink Floyd, The Beatles, The Velvet Underground, Jackson Browne, Harry Chapin, Emmylou Harris, The Band, Eric Burdon & War, The Fraternity of Man, Bob Dylan, Jefferson Airplane, The Who, Janis Joplin, Neil Young and more!

7:00 p.m. Album of The Week: Barn by Neil Young & Crazy Horse FINAL AIRING!

We warned you that it was coming, and it’s here. This will be the final airing of Neil Young’s 41st album, Barn, with his go-to band, Crazy Horse. This marks their 14th album together. Tune it in because tomorrow there’ll be a brand new album when you wake up.

10:00 p.m. LIVE DEAD! The Grateful Dead Live at Roosevelt Stadium, Jersey City, NJ, August 6, 1974 NEW!

Another new soundboard recording from the ultimate road warriors for The Deadheads. This one is from Roosevelt Stadium, with over four hours of LIVE DEAD! music to close out your night!

Before, in between, and after our programming you’ll be treated to wide Open Stream courtesy of our Music Mermaid. As you should well know by now, she has impeccable taste in music. She’s a keeper.

Roy Orbison In the Spotlight, The Final Airing of Moondog Matinee, Selections From Monterey Pop, and Tonight’s Live Dead, Saturday, December 26, 2020

6:00 p.m. Selections From the Monterey International Pop Music Festival, June 17-19, 1967

Since today marks the day the rockumentary hit the theaters back in 1968, we thought we’d commemorate the precursor to Woodstock by playing some tunes from the festival.

The set list is also up under the Playlist tab. Again, just scroll down.

10:00 p.m. Live Dead! The Grateful Dead Live at Irvine Meadows Amphitheatre, April 12, 1986 NEW!

Another new ‘Live Dead’ offering for this week. We’ve played no duplicates here since this little extravaganza began, and we will go as long as we can with new material! This one comes from the now-demolished Irvine Meadows Amphitheatre.

Tune us in, people. No commercials. No credit card required. No memberships. No personal information. What’s the matter? That make you nervous?
