It’s Another Simple Sunday With the New Album of The Week by Mudcrutch and Our ‘Here Comes the Night’ EP, May 7, 2023

We like to keep it simple on Sundays and give you plenty of wide Open Stream with The Music Mermaid. Today we’ve got the first Mudcrutch album as our AOW to kick it off.

Here’s today’s musical lineup:

11:00 a.m. Album of The Week: Mudcrutch by Mudcrutch NEW!

We start the day and a new week with the first Mudcrutch album. This is the band that left Gainesville looking for musical fortune in L.A. It didn’t work out until later as the band split and morphed into Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers (we’re happy for that part). Later in 2008, Tom Petty reunited the original band and they finally found their place in the music world, releasing two albums and going on tour. Enjoy this one. They were a fine band in their own right.

3:00 p.m. Here Comes The Night: Various Artists

Night time is the right time. Just ask Warren Zevon, the J. Geils Band, Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, Them, The Beatles, Van Morrison, Patti Smith, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Bruce Springsteen, The Kinks, the Electric Prunes, Phoebe Snow, Joe Walsh, The Eagles, The Ronettes, John Cougar Mellencamp, The Doors, Emmylou Harris, Poco, Neil Diamond, The Animals, The Band, the Rolling Stones, Don McLean, Steve Winwood, Cat Stevens, The Traveling Wilburys, Sam Cooke, Jimmy Cliff, Bonnie Raitt and more!

Kick back and relax with us today. It’s Sunday. Don’t know where you are today, but here it’s bright and sunny and will be in the 70’s. Nice. Great day for great music.

Saturday Brings Our ‘Here Comes The Night’ EP, the Final Airing of Our AOW, and Steve Winwood as Our Singer-Songwriter, April 8, 2023

Good morning, weekenders! We have finally reached mecca! Today we’ve got a great EP of songs about the night, the final airing of our Ry Cooder AOW and the legendary Steve Winwood as the new featured singer-songwriter.

Here’s your Saturday lineup:

10:00 a.m. Here Comes The Night: Various Artists

The night time is the right time, according to many artists. You’ll hear Warren Zevon, the J. Geils Band, Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, Them, The Beatles, Van Morrison, Patti Smith, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Bruce Springsteen,The Kinks, The Electric Prunes, Phoebe Snow, Joe Walsh, The Eagles, The Ronettes, John Cougar Mellencamp, Linda Ronstadt, Joni Mitchell, Emmylou Harris, The Doors, Poco, Neil Diamond, The Animals, The Band, The Rolling Stones, Don McLean, Steve Winwood, Cat Stevens and more!

We bid a fond farewell to Ry Cooder’s great album today. Tomorrow we’ll have a brand new selection for you.

8:00 p.m. Singer-Songwriter Series: The Music of Steve Winwood NEW!

Today we introduce a most deserving candidate for our featured singer-songwriter in Steve Winwood. He was a member of three legendary sixties bands in The Spencer Davis Group, Traffic and Blind Faith. He wrote Gimme’ Some Lovin’ at the age of fifteen. He also had a massively successful solo career. Tune him in tonight to see why he’s a Mermaid Lounge favorite.

Let’s cut to the chase: We’re on 24/7. We’re free. We don’t accept any commercial advertising. And we don’t employ chatty DJ’s who talk through the beginnings of songs. Does that work for you?

We Keep It Simple on Sunday With Our Surprising New Album of The Week and ‘Here Comes The Night’ EP, March 5, 2023

Good morning, musicologists! We love it when musicians refuse to be “defined” and Dr. John is one of those guys. Today we have a brand new album featuring Dr. John and two of his friends, along with our ‘Here Comes The Night’ EP.

Here’s your laid-back Sunday lineup:

11:00 a.m. Album of The Week: Bluesiana Triangle by Art Blakey, Dr. John and David “Fathead” Newman NEW!

I stumbled upon this album several years ago because of my obsession with Dr. John, but it’s conception was really Art Blakey, an American jazz drummer. In addition to Dr. John on piano, guitar and vocals, it features David “Fathead” Newman, a jazz and rhythm & blues saxophonist, who is best known for his work with Ray Charles in the 50’s and early 60’s. The album is a collection of great jazz, blues and funk music that has become one of my favorites.

3:00 p.m. Here Comes The Night: Various Artists

We’re back with our EP about night time (it’s the right time, according to the J. Geils Band). In addition to them, you’ll hear Warren Zevon, Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, Them, The Beatles, Van Morrison, Patti Smith, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Bruce Springsteen, The Kinks, The Electric Prunes, Phoebe Snow, Joe Walsh, The Eagles, The Ronettes, John Cougar Mellencamp, Linda Ronstadt, Joni Mitchell, Emmylou Harris, The Doors, Poco, Neil Diamond, The Animals, The Band, The Rolling Stones, The Traveling Wilburys, Sam Cooke, Jimmy Cliff, Bonnie Raitt, Don McLean, Steve Winwood, Cat Stevens and more!

Yes, it’s an official day of rest, so kick back and tune us in. Even if you’ve got stuff to do around the house, we make great background music because we run absolutely NO commercial advertising at any time. We also don’t spend a hell of a lot of time talking. We’re all about the music and we’re totally free.

We Keep It Simple On Sunday With Our New AOW, a Tribute Album to Townes Van Zandt, and Our ‘Here Comes The Night’ EP, February 5, 2023

It’s Sunday Funday here in The Mermaid Lounge where we love to keep it simple on the seventh day of the week. We’ve got a great new AOW this morning to start it off. Read on!

Here’s your Sunday lineup:

11:00 a.m. Album of The Week: Poet, A Tribute to Townes Van Zandt, Various Artists NEW!

This is a great multi-artist album featuring the music of singer-songwriter Townes Van Zandt, who wrote many songs including Pancho & Lefty, For The Sake of The Song, If I Needed You, and To Live Is To Fly. Many of his compositions are considered to be masterpieces of American songwriting. His personal story is a sad one as he struggled with substance abuse and alcoholism and a diagnosis of bipolar disorder, but it does not diminish this man’s contribution to American popular music. On this album you will hear Emmylou Harris, Willie Nelson, John Prine, Delbert McClinton, Lucinda Williams, Guy Clark, Nanci Griffith, and many more pay tribute to his brilliance.

3:00 p.m. Here Comes The Night: Various Artists

This afternoon we feature a great EP extolling the virtues of the night. You’ll hear The Traveling Wilburys, Sam Cooke, Jimmy Cliff, Bonnie Raitt, Warren Zevon, the J. Geils Band, Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, The Beatles, Them, Van Morrison, Patti Smith, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Bruce Springsteen, The Kinks, the Electric Prunes, Phoebe Snow, Joe Walsh, The Eagles, The Ronettes, John Cougar Mellencamp, Linda Ronstadt, Joni Mitchell, Emmylou Harris, The Doors, Poco, Neil Diamond, The Animals, The Band, The Rolling Stones, Don McLean, Steve Winwood, Cat Stevens and more!

All of our music runs 24/7 (not just when we have programming) uninterrupted by commercial advertising and at no cost to the general public. While I’m sure many think there are “strings” attached, I assure you there is not. See for yourself.

7:00 p.m. Beatle Songs With Character UPDATED!

The Beatles loved to name drop as you will see. They invented characters like Mr. Kite, Maxwell of silver hammer fame, Lucy who floated around the sky with diamonds. You’ll also hear about the man in the mack, a barber on Penny Lane, Prudence (who was actually Mia Farrow’s sister), Prime Minister Harold Wilson, and mother Mary. This playlist has recently been expanded and updated, so give it a listen!

We’re sitting here waiting for you to join your friends from around the world in discovering what great music we play 24/7 at no cost to you. Your money is no good here. We’re also advertising free, and our disc jockeys are virtually mute. Take a spin. You’ve got absolutely nothing to lose.

7:00 p.m. The Doors Live at The Isle of Wight Festival, Afton Down, Newport, England, August 30, 1970

The Lizard King and his band tear it up at the Isle of Wight Festival just about a year before his death. I always marvel at the body of work they were able to achieve in just four short years.

C’mon, people. It’s Friday and there’s nothing like some great background music to help get you through the day in a better mental state. We are just the ticket. We’re free. We’re on 24/7 (not just when there’s programming). And we’re all about music, not chat. We also have a strict rule against commercial advertising. We simply don’t take it.

We Keep It Simple On Sundays. This Week It’s The Zombies With Our Psychedelic AOW, and Our ‘Here Comes The Night’ EP, October 2, 2022

Good Morning, Music Lovers! We are here in The Mermaid Lounge and the wind is whipping out there; there’s a nip in the air…but it’s going to be toasty in here. We keep it simple on Sundays: A new Album of The Week and usually an EP. The rest is wide Open Stream. Tune us in.

Here’s today’s musical landscape:

11:00 a.m. Album of The Week: Odessy and Oracle by The Zombies NEW!

Nope. It’s not a misspelling. Check out the album cover. Be that as it may, we continue our little journey down psychedelia lane with our AOW selection. Rather than me writing a tome here, I’ll give you the review by ‘Discover Music.’

You know an album is timeless when it takes a half-century to be properly appreciated. The Zombies were, however, right into the spirit of the times in 1968, evolving from their R&B origins and writing one of the most enduring peace-and-love anthems, Odyssey & Oracle’s only hit, “Time Of The Season.” But it took decades for most people to hear the rest of the album and realise how beautifully inventive it all was. It’s no secret that The Zombies were squeaky-clean compared to most 60s bands, but this album was visionary as they come.
Must hear: Time Of The Season

Discover Music

3:00 p.m. Here Comes The Night: Various Artists

The antidote to our ‘Ode To Morning’ EP, which is coming up soon also. Songs with references to the night in the title, lyrics or both. Geils Band, Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, Them, The Beatles, Van Morrison, Patti Smith, Van Morrison, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Bruce Springsteen, The Kinks, The Electric Prunes, Phoebe Snow, Joe Walsh, The Eagles, The Ronettes, John Cougar Mellencamp, Linda Ronstadt, Joni Mitchell, Emmylou Harris, The Doors, Poco, Neil Diamond, The Animals, The Band, The Rolling Stones, Don McLean, Steve Winwood, Cat Stevens, The Traveling Wilburys, Sam Cooke, Jimmy Cliff, Bonnie Raitt and more!

What could be better on a cloudy day than hunkering down with some good music. So far the weather isn’t matching what’s on my phone, which says partly sunny. Not even close. And if it does eventually get there, there’s always room for great music. We’ve got it here, so join listeners from around the globe.
