A 50th Anniversary Celebration for ALL THINGS MUST PASS, and Valerie Carter in The Spotlight Later, Friday, November 27, 2020

Good Morning, Music Lovers Everywhere! Here we are with another day of exceptional music in The Mermaid Lounge. We’ve got some great stuff wrapped around all that Open Stream.

Valerie Carter, the little girl with the big voice.

Here’s today’s musical line-up:

11:00 a.m. The 50th Anniversary Celebration: All Things Must Pass by George Harrison NEW!

Today is the 50th anniversary of George Harrison’s triple-album release of All Things Must Pass. It is the first ex-Beatle solo album and the hit, My Sweet Lord, would become the first ex-Beatle solo song to go to #1. Today we celebrate with the expanded version of this album.

Afternoon Open Stream with Three-in-a-Row’s All Afternoon

We had a pretty busy Thanksgiving bit of programming and Saturday is always busy, so today we’re working on an afternoon of open stream.

7:00 p.m. In The Spotlight: The Music of Valerie Carter

Undoubtedly one of our favorites here in The Mermaid Lounge. Valerie Carter was an extraordinary talent who not only had a successful solo career, but also shared her vocal talent with her friends in the music world. You will enjoy this playlist.

This is a great day to tune us in, people. You will enjoy what you hear, and you will appreciate what you don’t hear: endless D.J. chatter and advertising. Tune us in by clicking the link below.

Our Thanksgiving Tradition This Morning, Some R & B This Afternoon; Our Album of The Week and The Kinks Later, November 26, 2020

Good Morning, Music Lovers! Here we are on a rainy Thanksgiving with not a damned obligation except great music. And we’re happy about that.

Arlo Guthrie and his fellow hippies at Thanksgiving Dinner at the church that would inspire the song, Alice’s Restaurant, 1969.

Here’s today’s Turkey Day line-up:

10:00 a.m. Arlo Guthrie’s Alice’s Restaurant, Our Thanksgiving Tradition!

If you read the story in our college blog entry today, you know the back story. If you haven’t read it yet, you can — as they say — read all about it here.

2:00 p.m. DJ’s Choice: My Favorite R & B Stream

Every once in a while, I am inspired to string a collection of songs together when I am up late at night. The night I created this was such a night. I hope you enjoy it.

5:00 p.m. Album of The Week: Homecoming by America

We’re winding down on America’s Homecoming album, just a really excellent album. There will be one more airing after today before we choose our new AOW on Sunday.

7:00 p.m. In the Spotlight: The Music of The Kinks

When Ray and Dave Davies weren’t beating the living shit out of each other backstage (and sometimes on stage), they were making some of the best music on the planet. And for that, we are thankful.

Tune in. Turn on. And shovel in that Thanksgiving turkey, if you are so inclined. But whatever you do today, make sure you tune us in.

It’s Tuesday Bluesday With B.B. King & Friends, Eric Clapton in Tokyo & Our Album of The Week, November 24, 2020

11:00 a.m. B.B. King & Friends: A Night of Blistering Blues! NEW!

The playlist is indeed up. Just go to the Playlist tab on this blog and scroll to the bottom!

3:00 p.m. Album of The Week: Homecoming by America

It ain’t the blues, but it is our Album of The Week and it shall be played no matter what else is going on. In fact, many of the songs on this album defy labels. That’s what makes it so great.

7:00 p.m. Eric Clapton & His Band Live From The Tokyo Dome, Japan, November 2, 1988 NEW!

Like B.B. King, Eric Clapton invited a couple of friends in Mark Knopfler and Allan Clarke, vocalist for The Hollies. A splendid time was had by all.

Come on, people. Get your musical shit together. No, we don’t offer “on demand” musicl That’s not what we’re all about. We’d have to charge for that service, and we’re not doing that. This is radio the way it used to be.

“Homecoming” is Our Album of The Week, Laura Nyro is In The Spotlight, and The Psychedelic Express Rolls Through, Sunday, November 22, 2020

How are we this fine morning, Music Lovers? It’s Sunday, a day of rest. It’s the perfect day to tune in, turn on, and drop out. Who said that?

Laura Nyro, one of the most amazing songwriters of all time.

Here’s your Sunday Funday line-up!

11:00 a.m. Album of The Week: Homecoming by America NEW!

Here we go, everybody claiming this is a “surprise” pick for me. I remember in my younger days people being surprised that I liked much of America’s music. Hey, I’ve never been a head-banger. In fact, you don’t hear that stuff on this station, for the most part.

America is really good at what it does. Call it soft rock; call it whatever you want. But America has made some very creative music. The albums Homecoming, Hat Trick, and Hideaway have some incredible music on them. Tune it in today’s Album of The Week to see what we mean.

3:00 p.m. In the Spotlight: The Music of Laura Nyro

Laura Nyro’s contribution to popular music is undeniable. She’s a brilliant songwriter, having delivered Wedding Bell Blues, Stoned Soul Picnic, Eli’s Coming, and many other songs. Most have been hits for other people, but Laura Nyro singing them is something to behold. Today, we put her In The Spotlight.

7:00 p.m. The Psychedelic Express: Various Artists

Some of the best mind-bending tunes on the planet from The Electric Prunes, The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, The Crazy World of Arthur Brown, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Cream, The Doors, Pink Floyd, and others!

10:00 p.m. Murder Most Foul by Bob Dylan

Bob Dylan’s 2020 release about John F. Kennedy’s assassination was aired here when released, and added to the general rotation. Today, we will replay it at 10:00 p.m. on the 57th anniversary of JFK’s assassination.

Here’s what you’ve got to do: Tune us in. This is the easiest thing on the planet to do. Open a tab and click the link at the bottom of this blog entry. No lie. That’s all, folks. We’re not lying.

It’s Mudcrutch Monday and We Have Live Janis Later On, November 16, 2020

Good Morning, Gang! It’s another Monday from The Mermaid Lounge, and we intend to make it count today.

I just love this photo. No significance here other than the fact that it’s Mudcrutch and The Shelters (whom Tom Petty was mentoring) and it was sold out.

Here’s today’s line-up:

11:00 a.m. Mudcrutch Madness! The Complete Catalogue.

All the Mudcrutch that you can possibly play (except for live bootlegs which will be coming). Did you know that Don’t Do Me Like That was originally a Mudcrutch song? We’ve also got the definitive live version here of Hungry No More, recorded at Boston’s House of Blues in 2016.

Whatever the stream collects as it flows is what we’ll be playing for the afternoon. Listen for some 3’s from Lucinda Williams, Bob Dylan, and Steely Dan.

6:00 p.m. Janis Joplin Live at The Fillmore East, New York, February 12, 1969

We’ve got some live Janis going here, and that is always a treat for sure.

This is the day to tune us in. Every day is the day to tune us in. Ask the folks in Lithuania. They love us.

Welcome to Sunday and Our New Album of The Week & The Sixties Rotation!

Good Morning, Music Lovers! Today we have a brand new album of the week, and we have our monthly five-hour, uninterrupted Sixties Rotation. This is the music that is in our DNA here in The Mermaid Lounge.

The Sixties. It’s in our DNA here at #BecomeUngovernable Radio.

Here’s today’s line-up!

11:00 a.m. Album of The Week: The Main Refrain by Wendy Waldman NEW!

The Main Refrain is one of the finest albums ever made from someone many may never have heard of. Those of us who were listening to Linda Ronstadt and Maria Muldaur, however, know Wendy Waldman because they introduced her to their followers. Fame may have eluded her over the years, but her contributions as a writer, singer and producer are immense. She remains one of the most well-respected singers of her generation among her peers. Linda Ronstadt appears on this album, and they combine their voices beautifully on The Eagle and The Owl. Pay attention, children.

3:00 p.m. The Sixties Rotation, Volume 2: Various Artists

Our monthly homage to the inspiration for this radio station with more than five uninterrupted hours of streaming. The Beatles, The Grateful Dead, The Rolling Stones, Canned Heat, The Guess Who, The Doors, The Who, Janis Joplin, Them, The Zombies, Jimi Hendrix, The Searchers and many others take a trip through The Mermaid Lounge today.

Before and after all of this great programming we have Open Stream because we run 24/7 uninterrupted, with no charge, no meaningless chatter, and no advertising. This would be an excellent day to join us.

Also on this day, Ray Charles goes to #1 for the first time ever with Georgia On My Mind, his ninth hit.

November 14, 1962: The Beatles played the final show of a 14-night run at the Star Club in Hamburg, Germany. We will soon be featuring these performances here at $BecomeUngovernable Radio.

November 14, 1967: Pink Floyd opens for The Jimi Hendrix Experience, and play the first show at Royal Albert Hall in London.

November 14, 1971: Rod Stewart & Faces release Stay With Me.

That’s today’s lesson in a nutshell, Musicologists. Please sign on to follow the blog on the right sidebar and it will be delivered to your email daily. We will be back in a bit with today’s line-up!

In addition to his outstanding solo career, Neil Young has been part of Buffalo Springfield, The Stills-Young Band, and Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young. On the road, his backing bands have been Crazy Horse, and Lukas Nelson & Promise of the Real. His discography is immense and his contribution immeasurable.

Afternoon Open Stream with Three-in-a-Rows

We’ve got an Open Stream afternoon with some Three-in-a-Row interludes for your listening pleasure. Keep your head low and stay out of trouble today.

7:00 p.m. Deb’s Stream: Good Luck, Bad Luck, Dumb Luck NEW!

You knew this had to happen today. It’s just too good an opportunity to remember some of the songs addressing the issue of luck. You would actually think there’d be more. Tough to find! This playist is about luck (title or lyrics) and taking chances. Enjoy.

By the way, the playlist for this is up on the blog. Just navigate yourselves to the Playlist tab and scroll to the bottom!
