It’s Tuesday Bluesday With Our Big, Bad Blues EP, Albert Collins ‘Live’ at The Fillmore, and Our AOW in Between, October 25, 2022

Happy Tuesday Bluesday, blues lovers! We’ve got your covered today with Something Old, Something New, Something Borrowed, Something Blues and some live Albert Collins. In between, we’ve got some psychedelia for you.

Here’s today’s musical landscape:

9:00 a.m. Something Old, Something New, Something Borrowed, Something Blues: Various Artists

We’ve got a few blues playlists here, but this is the grand kahuna. You’ll hear music up and down the blues spectrum with Delbert McClinton, B.B. King, Little Walter, Slim Harpo, Ry Cooder, Canned Heat, John Lee Hooker, The Animals, Albert King, Johnny Winter, Muddy Waters, Little Feat, Bonnie Raitt, The Yardbirds, Janis Joplin, The Rolling Stones, Bobby “Blue” Bland, The Allman Brothers Band, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Elmore James, Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, The Robert Cray Band, John Mayall’s Bluesbreakers, J.J. Cale, Koko Taylor, Paul Butterfield Blues Band, James Cotton, Susan Tedeschi, Duane Allman, Marcia Ball, Roomful of Blues, Howlin’ Wolf, Tracy Nelson, Linda Ronstadt and more!

4:00 p.m. Album of The Week: Twelve Dreams of Dr. Sardonicus by Spirit

Just a short break for some psychedelic music here as we bring you what is considered the final psychedelic masterpiece of the original psychedelic music era.

7:00 p.m. Albert Collins Live at The Fillmore, San Francisco, CA, December 26-28, 1969

Some ‘live’ Albert Collins recorded over a three-day stretch at one great venue, The Fillmore West. We haven’t heard this one for a while and it jumped right out. We have been remiss. Enjoy.

Here I go again: Why not join our listeners? There’s absolutely no cost to you. We are not a corporate entity, nor do we have the desire to become one. We just play music. We are not all things to all people. We do not play rap. And if we did, we certainly would not be playing anything that came out of Ye’s mouth. We do not play head-banging hard rock. We do not play hip-hop or disco. But we play just about everything else.

It’s Tuesday Bluesday With The Blues Project and The Robert Cray Band with Stevie Ray Vaughan on October 18, 2022

Good Morning, Blues Lovers! We have got a dandy lined up today with The Blues Project doing a ‘live’ gig in Central Park and SRV out there with The Robert Cray Band. In between, it’s our AOW.

Here’s your Tuesday Bluesday line-up:

11:00 a.m. The Blues Project Reunion in Central Park, New York, October 24, 1973

This reunion, recorded at the Schaefer Festival in 1973 is amazing, in light of their nasty break-up six years prior. The band that helped pioneer blues-rock included Andy Kulberg, Roy Blumenfeld, the great Al Kooper, Steve Katz and Danny Kalb. They were all on the same page for this one and, if there was any acrimony remaining, it certainly didn’t show.

3:00 p.m. Album of The Week: Their Satanic Majesties Request by The Rolling Stones

We interrupt our blues programming for a bit of psychedelia from The Stones with the second airing of our Album of The Week. Funny thing is, the Rolling Stones are steeped in the blues, so there is a symmetry here.

7:00 p.m. The Robert Cray Band with Stevie Ray Vaughan, Club Redux, Dallas, TX, January 21, 1987

Two blues greats on stage at Club Redux in Dallas. What is not to love here?

Another Tuesday Bluesday rolls around. We expect our usual full house today, and it also marks the first time we’ve had listeners from Iran tune us in. It’s always one of our busiest days in The Lounge. You should give us a try. Hell, we won’t cost you a thing but a little bit of time. We’re totally free and we are on air 24/7, not just when we have programming scheduled. That’s because we have The Music Mermaid running the show here.

Welcome to Tuesday Bluesday and Our Big ‘Best of Chicago Blues’ EP, Koko Taylor In the Spotlight, and The AOW to Start It All Off October 11, 2022

Good Morning, Bluesologists! Today we’ve got our big ‘Best of Chicago Blues’ EP along with Koko Taylor, The Queen of The Blues, In the Spotlight later. In between, it’s Dr. John’s AOW.

Here’s your Tuesday Bluesday lineup:

9:00 a.m. Album of The Week: Gris-Gris by Dr. John

The second airing of this great New Orleans R & B meets psychedelic voodoo album is here for your listening pleasure. It may not quite be the blues, but it sets the tone.

11:00 a.m. The Best of Chicago Blues: Various Artists

There’s nothing like a trip to Chicago to catch some blues. Been there on business several times and never failed to find a great venue to visit. You’ll hear from Otis Rush, Willie Dixon, Albert King, Muddy Waters, Little Walter, Bo Diddley, Koko Taylor, Lowell Fulson, Howlin’ Wolf, Buddy Guy, Magic Slim, Sonny Boy Williamson, Son Seals, James Cotton, Paul Butterfield, Elmore James, Jimmy Reed, Otis Spann and more!

7:00 p.m. In The Spotlight: The Music of Koko Taylor

Koko Taylor’s raw, powerful voice led to her title as Queen of The Blues. Koko was no delicate flower; she was a kic-ass, take-no-prisoners blues vocalist with attitude. And we love her in The Mermaid Lounge and give her the spotlight treatment today.

There’s nothing like Tuesday Bluesday to cut your teeth on a great radio station. We don’t infect the airwaves with commercial advertising or mouthy D.J.’s who like to talk through the first minute of every damned song. Instead, we rely on The Music Mermaid to take us through the day. As you know, she has impeccable taste in music.

We Celebrate Tuesday Bluesday With New ‘Live’ John Mayall, our AOW, and The Heartbreakers Sing The Blues, October 4, 2022

Good Morning, Bluesologists! It’s Tuesday Bluesday here once again and we’ve got a great programming lineup for you wrapped around our psychedelic Album of The Week!

Here’s your Tuesday Bluesday lineup:

11:00 a.m. John Mayall Live at Kongresshalle, Berlin, Germany, May 21, 1969 NEW!

We’re in possession of some new ‘live’ John Mayall recordings from the 35-disc box set we just scored, and we’re going to start off with this one on this fine Tuesday Bluesday. You’ll be hearing more in the future for sure!

3:00 p.m. Album of The Week: Odessy and Oracle by The Zombies

We go for round two airing of this week’s featured album by The Zombies as we toss in a bit of psychedelia for the afternoon. As we said in our blog post on Sunday, it took nearly half a century for this album to be fully appreciated. (But not by me.)

7:00 p.m. Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers Sing the Blues

Tom Petty said he once envisioned his main band growing old together and sitting around in chairs playing the blues together. He never quite got there, unfortunately for all of us. However, he and the boys did sing some great blues together during their 40-year run, and we’ve got those songs here for you this evening as we continue on with Tom Petty month.

It’s always a great day to tune us in, but Tuesday Bluesday is an especially good day to do so. Why not join your friends from Italy, Greece, Russian Federation, Australia, Spain, the UK, France, Brazil, Iceland, Faroe Islands, Portugal, California, Kansas, New Hampshire, Pennsylvania, and points beyond? It’s totally free; no surprises, no lie.

It’s Tuesday Bluesday With Our Big, Bad Blues EP and Some ‘Live’ Stevie Ray Vaughan On The Docket, September 27, 2022

Good Morning, Bluesologists! Another Tuesday Bluesday has rolled around and we’ve got some great programming for you today that starts with five hours of uninterrupted blues of all kinds!

Here’s your Tuesday Bluesday lineup:

10:00 a.m. Something Old, Something New, Something Borrowed, Something Blues: Various Artists

We’ve got some great blues material on this station, but this is our biggest, baddest Tuesday Bluesday feature every month where we shower you with all kinds of blues from artists like Delbert McClinton, B.B. King, Little Walter, Slim Harpo, Ry Cooder, Canned Heat, John Lee Hooker, The Animals, Albert King, Johnny Winter, Muddy Waters, Little Feat, Bonnie Raitt, The Yardbirds, Janis Joplin, The Rolling Stones, Bobby “Blue” Bland, The Allman Brothers Band, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Elmore James, J.J. Cale, John Mayall’s Bluesbreakers, Koko Taylor, the Paul Butterfield Blues Band, James Cotton, Susan Tedeschi, Duane Allman, Marcia Ball, Roomful of Blues, Howlin’ Wolf, Linda Ronstadt, Tracy Nelson and more!

4:00 p.m. Album of The Week: Cloud Nine by The Temptations

The only diversion from our blues programming today is for this great Album of The Week from 1969 where The Temps introduced us to a new genre called ‘psychedelic soul.’

7:00 p.m. Stevie Ray Vaughan Live at The Bluebird Lounge, Ft. Worth, Texas, September 30, 1979

We close out today’s Tuesday Bluesday programming with a guy who left us much too soon. Stevie Ray Vaughan was, without a doubt, one of the greatest masters of blues guitar and one dominant presence on stage. See for yourself tonight.

Tuesday Bluesday generally brings out a lot of listeners, but we’re not concerned with numbers here because this is a labor of musical love. We do not charge for you to listen…no ‘subscription’ required here. That means you never have to divulge your personal information or give us a credit card number. There are things you can’t do here, like build personal playlists but, then again, that was never what radio was about anyway. When we were kids, radio was about anxiously waiting for the next song and not knowing what it was going to be. That’s what you’ve got here.

We’ve Got Some Very Cool Music for Tuesday Bluesday Sandwiched Around Our Album of The Week, September 20, 2022

Good Morning, Bluesologists! We have some great Tuesday Bluesday material for you today; the only diversion will be a short trip to the Land of Psychedelia with Donovan this afternoon.

Here’s your Tuesday Bluesday lineup:

11:00 a.m. In The Spotlight: The Music of Taj Mahal

We here in the lounge consider Taj Mahal a national treasure. I’ll never forget my 2014 trip to New Orleans and the photo I took of a great Taj Mahal mural in the box office at the House of Blues. But I digress. Taj Mahal is not only a great bluesman, but he’s a multi-instrumentalist who plays guitar, piano, banjo, harmonica and a bunch of other instruments. He has been instrumental in expanding the scope of the blues by incorporating elements of world music in his creative efforts.

3:00 p.m. Album of The Week: Sunshine Superman by Donovan

The only break in our blues programming comes mid-afternoon when we take a short trip to the land of psychedelic music with Donovan’s Sunshine Superman, our Album of The Week.

7:00 p.m. Rick Danko & Paul Butterfield Live at The Blue Note, Boulder, CO, December 13, 1979

After The Band was no more, Rick Danko teamed up with Paul Butterfield and toured as the blues-rock Danko/Butterfield Band. They went on the road together, and this performance is from The Blue Note in Boulder.

It’s always a busy day on Tuesday Bluesday, and this day is no exception! We’ve got people on from around the globe this morning as we gear up for some great blues programming. Join us. We say that metaphorically because there’s nothing to fill out (no personal information required) and no credit card asked for. If you don’t like us, you simply don’t come back. If you do like us, you continue to come back. Simple. Uncomplicated. No hidden fees. No surprises. That’s us.

It’s Tuesday Bluesday with Our ‘Best of Chicago Blues’ EP and ‘Live’ Johnny Winter Bringing Up The Rear, September 13, 2022

Good Morning, Bluesologists! Here we are again in the midst of another Tuesday Bluesday! Today we take a trip to Chicago for some blues.

We start off Tuesday Bluesday with our big, bad Chicago blues EP!

Here’s today’s musical landscape:

11:00 a.m. The Best of Chicago Blues: Various Artists

We travel to Chicago for a dose of the blues with Otis Rush, Willie Dixon, Albert King, Muddy Waters, Little Walter, Bo Diddley, Koko Taylor, Lowell Fulson, Howlin’ Wolf, Buddy Guy, Magic Slim, Son Seals, Sonny Boy Williamson, James Cotton, Paul Butterfield, Elmore James, Jimmy Reed, Otis Spann and more!

7:00 p.m. Johnny Winter Live at The Bottom Line, New York City, NY, September 5, 1978

One of the best bluesmen of all time here, albeit a bit overlooked at times. Winter was not only a great blues guitarist and singer, known for his high-energy blues albums and live performances in the late 60s and 70s, but he also produced three Grammy Award-winning albums for the great Muddy Waters.

9:00 p.m. Album of The Week: Electric Music for The Mind and Body, Country Joe & The Fish

We close out the day’s programming outside the realm of the blues with one of the first psychedelic albums to come out of San Francisco.

Tuesday Bluesday in The Mermaid Lounge is always a great take, so why not join us today. If you’ve never experienced #BecomeUngovernable Radio before, this would be a great day to start. We’re on with our friends from around the world already. Join us. We’re totally free and ask for no information. The only requirement is curiosity, a computer, a free tab and the will to switch to a better music source.

It’s Tuesday Bluesday and We’ve Got Two Great Live Performances and Our Album of The Week On Tap, September 6, 2022

Happy Tuesday Bluesday, Kids! Today we give you two great live performances sandwiched around our Album of The Week by Roberta Flack.

We kick off the programming with Peter Green’s Splinter Group live from Germany!

Here’s your Tuesday Bluesday lineup:

11:00 a.m. Peter Green’s Splinter Group Live From The Capitol Theatre, Mannheim, Germany, sometime in 2003 NEW!

Another great live performance where the date is not readily apparent, but no matter. We have a few of those and we keep looking knowing that we’ll find it…someday. Peter Green was a fine bluesman, and the very first leader of Fleetwood Mac, which was originally a blues band before turning mainstream pop. Today we have Peter Green’s Splinter Group live from Germany for your listening pleasure.

3:00 p.m. Album of The Week: First Take by Roberta Flack

At mid-afternoon we give you the second airing of Roberta Flack’s debut album, and a fine one it is. This album is considered by many to be one of the best R & B releases in popular music history, and for good reason. She doesn’t shy away from issues like racism either.

7:00 p.m. The Jeff Beck Group Live From The Boston Tea Party, Boston, MA, May 6, 1969

We go back in time to a legendary venue in the Boston area with a great blues-rock band for our programming finale tonight. We’ve aired this one before, but it’s been a few minutes, as they say. You’ll love this one!

Another fine Tuesday Bluesday rolls around and we deliver the blues. We’ve got a great collection of blues music and it’s growing as we speak. We’re continually shopping around for artists, music, and live performances as we move into the winter months when music becomes even more important. We’re here 24/7 at no charge to the general public. Come and join your friends from around the globe.

We Celebrate Tuesday Bluesday With Paul Butterfield ‘Live’ in Boston and Eva Cassidy ‘Live’ in Georgetown, August 30, 2022

We’ve got some great vintage stuff for you on this fine Tuesday Bluesday with a couple of great ‘live’ performances. Sandwiched in between is our Album of The Week

Join us for Tuesday Bluesday!

Here’s your Tuesday Bluesday lineup:

11:00 a.m. The Paul Butterfield Blues Band Live at Unicorn Coffee House, Boston, MA, May 1966

This is one of those mystery date performances. I’ve been looking around for the actual date since we uploaded the music five years ago. Nobody seems to have it. But hell, we know it happened. And we know the Unicorn was real, a little one-room venue in Boston where Butterfield frequently played.

3:00 p.m. Album of The Week: Ram by Paul & Linda McCartney

A fine vinyl release here back in the day. The only album ever credited to the husband and wife team eventually ended up being one of McCartney’s most highly acclaimed albums of his solo career.

7:00 p.m. Eva Cassidy Live at Blues Alley, Georgetown, Washington, D.C., January 2-3, 1996

We have the date of this great performance by Eva Cassidy, a great folk and blues singer who passed on the very same year of this performance.

Our overseas friends make up the bulk of listeners every morning. Some of them have been on all night, depending upon where they live! And the folks from Kansas? They’re either dead or just really like the radio station because they’ve been on for two days solid now. Whatever works.

It’s Tuesday Bluesday With Our Big, Bad Blues EP and ‘Live’ Stevie Ray Vaughan Later; In Between, It’s Our AOW, August 23, 2022

Happy Tuesday Bluesday, people! We’ve got a great musical lineup today here in The Mermaid Lounge that begins with our ‘Something Old, Something New, Something Borrowed, Something Blues’ EP!

Here’s today’s musical lineup:

10:00 a.m. Something Old, Something New, Something Borrowed, Something Blues: Various Artists

Here we have our all-encompassing blues extravaganza where you will hear B. B. King, Little Walter, Delbert McClinton, Slim Harpo, Ry Cooder, Canned Heat, John Lee Hooker, The Animals, Albert King, Johnny Winter, Muddy Waters, Little Feat, Bonnie Raitt, The Yardbirds, Janis Joplin, The Rolling Stones, Bobby “Blue” Bland, The Allman Brothers Band, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Elmore James, Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, The Robert Cray Band, J. J. Cale, John Mayall’s Bluesbreakers, James Cotton, Koko Taylor, The Butterfield Blues Band, Susan Tedeschi, Duane Allman, Marcia Ball, Roomful of Blues, Howlin’ Wolf, Linda Ronstadt, Tracy Nelson, Buddy Guy and more!

4:30 p.m. Album of The Week: The Union by Elton John & Leon Russell

In between our blues features today, we squeeze in our second airing of our Album of The Week by Elton John and Leon Russell, released in 2010.

7:00 p.m. Stevie Ray Vaughan Live at the Mann Music Center, Philadelphia, PA, June 30, 1987

We close out our musical programming tonight with a live outing from Stevie Ray Vaughan, one of the greatest blues guitarists in musical history. Even B. B. King and Lucille agree with that assessment, I might add.

Before, in between, and after we have that great wide Open Stream courtesy of The Music Mermaid. As you well know, she has impeccable taste in music. We’re totally free, 24-7, no strings and absolutely no surprises. And we never ask for your personal information. This is a labor of love inspired by my many summer days sitting around in Medford, Massachusetts with my friends listening to WMEX-AM on my transistor radio. Tune us in.
