We’re at Midweek With a Trip to Both Motown and The Legendary Fillmore With Some Legendary Musicians On Wednesday, February 1, 2023

We’re kicking off the month of February in style, musicologists! We start ot with our ‘M is For Motown’ EP, followed by Stevie Wonder as our featured singer-songwriter and Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers’ legendary 20-night residency at The Fillmore! Does it actually get any better?

Here’s your midweek lineup:

9:00 a.m. M is For Motown: Various Artists

Today we take a trip to Motor City and remember the music that made us dance! You’ll hear Barrett Strong (who just passed away in the last few days), Eddie Kendricks, Eddie Holland, Edwin Starr, Gladys Knight & The Pips, The Jackson Five, Kim Weston, Jr. Walker & The All Stars, Marvin Gaye, Martha & The Vandellas, Stevie Wonder, Smokey Robinson & The Miracles, Diana Ross &The Supremes, The Four Tops, The Isley Brothers, The Temptations, The Contours, Rare Earth, Mary Wells, Tammi Terrell, and more!

4:00 p.m. Singer-Songwriter Series: The Music of Stevie Wonder

This is our second airing of Stevie Wonder as this week’s featured singer-songwriter. Wonder signed his first record contract at the age of eleven, and released his first hit called Fingertips at the age of 13. It went to No. 1. Hence, his first stage name of ‘Little Stevie Wonder.’

8:00 p.m. Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers Live at The Fillmore, Volume 1, San Francisco, 1997

Today we are revisiting this great new release of The Heartbreakers’ legendary 20-night residency as The Fillmore House Band, where they scrapped the script and did something new every night to everyone’s delight. They even allowed those in attendance to leave them suggestions for subsequent shows, as many in attendance had tickets to multiple nights. To a man, the members of the Heartbreakers believed they were at their best for these legendary shows where they not only sang their original songs, but paid homage to those who inspired them. Special guests during these concerts included John Lee Hooker and Roger McGuinn, among others. We’ve broken this massive offering down into three volumes. We’ll be playing volumes two and three over the next couple of days. Enjoy. This doesn’t happen every day.

We can seriously say this is a great day to tune us in. This musical combination is off the charts, so to speak. We’re on 24/7 (not just when we have programming, by the way) and we are totally 100% free, no strings and no lies. We don’t ask for a credit card, a subscription or your personal information.

Here’s your musical landscape:

11:00 a.m. M is For Motown: Various Artists

We have two soul/R & B playlists, one that encompasses all record labels and this one, which features the Motown sound. 7:00 p.m. In the Spotlight: The Music of Tom Rush

We bring back the Pride of Portsmouth, New Hampshire. I saw this guy in Portsmouth at his 79th birthday bash just before COVID-19 hit hard. This was the last time I’ve been in a concert venue, and it was one of the best shows I’ve ever seen. I eventually lost the friend I saw the show with to COVID. I made this selection with her in mind today.

Before, in between, and after it’s our great wide Open Stream at the discretion of the Music Mermaid, who patrols the studio area with great pride. We run music on a 24/7 basis with no commercial interruption and no chatty DJ’s who just love to hear themselves speak. Oh, yeah, did I mention that we are completely free of charge?

We Hit Our Midweek Stride With The ‘M is For Motown’ EP and Dusty Springfield In the Spotlight Later, August 31, 2022

Not only is it midweek, but we’re closing out the month of August in fine form with a trip to Motown and a visit from the Queen of Blue-eyed Soul later, Dusty Springfield!

Here’s today’s lineup:

10:00 a.m. M is For Motown: Various Artists

We’ve got a couple of Soul and R & B extended playlists, but this one focuses strictly on Motown artists like Barrett Strong, Eddie Kendricks, Eddie Holland, Edwin Starr, Gladys Knight & The Pips, The Jackson Five, Kim Weston, Jr. Walker & The All Stars, Marvin Gaye, Martha & The Vandellas, Stevie Wonder, Smokey Robinson & The Miracles, The Four Tops, The Isley Brothers, The Temptations, The Contours, Mary Wells, Rare Earth, Tammi Terrell, Diana Ross & The Supremes, The Marvelettes, The Spinners, Jimmy Ruffin, and many more!

7:00 p.m. In The Spotlight: The Music of Dusty Springfield

Tonight we have the Queen of Blue-Eyed Soul paying us a visit here in The Mermaid Lounge. Dusty Springfield was one of the most popular British female singers on either side of the Atlantic Ocean during the sixties, and her career spanned five decades. A Mermaid Lounge favorite here.

Great day to tune us in. Of course, we believe that every day is a great day to tune us in. We say it over and over and over. We’re not just playing music when we have programming. We run 24/7 totally free of charge to the world. Before, in between and after our programs we give you that great wide Open Stream of more than 27,000 songs and albums.

It’s May Day in The Mermaid Lounge and We’ve Got Valerie Carter With Our New AOW, and The ‘M is For Motown’ EP, Sunday, May 1, 2022

Good Morning, lovers of that Motor City sound! You’ve got it starting this afternoon and evening, but first we kick off the day with our brand new Album of The Week by a Mermaid Lounge favorite, Valerie Carter.

‘M is For Motown’ kicks off at 3:00 p.m. EST!

Here’s your Sunday lineup:

11:00 a.m. Album of The Week: The Lost Tapes, Volume Two by Valerie Carter NEW!

Once again, Valerie Carter’s close friend, Kathy Kurasch, has done a masterful job keeping Carter’s legacy alive. We have been eagerly waiting for this release here in The Mermaid Lounge and it makes its debut here today. Most of all, it’s critical to remind everyone that, while Valerie Carter wanted to remain in the background, her vocal talents made her one of the most ‘in demand’ singers of her generation. Check out her website to see the breadth of her work. She was also one of the most down-to-earth and fully-evolved humans on the planet.

3:00 p.m. M is For Motown: Various Artists

We’re back with the sounds of Motor City. You’ll hear Barrett Strong, Eddie Kendricks, Eddie Holland, Edwin Starr, Gladys Knight & The Pips, The Jackson 5, Kim Weston, Jr. Walker & The All-Stars, Marvin Gaye, Martha & The Vandellas, Stevie Wonder, Smokey Robinson & The Miracles, The Four Tops, The Isley Brothers, The Temptations, The Contours, Mary Wells, Rare Earth, Tammi Terrell, Diana Ross & The Supremes, The Marvellettes, The Spinners, Jimmy Ruffin and more!

What are you waiting for, kids? I mean, it doesn’t get any better than 24/7 music with no commercial interruption and no payment required. If you’re hesitating because you think it’s too good to be true, I suggest you put that theory to the test. Because the facts will prove otherwise.

Open Stream Followed by Don McLean In The Spotlight, and ‘Money, Honey’ Later, Wednesday, June 2, 2021

Good Morning, Music Lovers! We kick off the day with wide Open Stream until early afternoon, when we put Don McLean In the Spotlight!

We kick off today’s programming with Don McLean In the Spotlight!

2:00 p.m. In The Spotlight: The Music of Don McLean NEW!

Who can forget that eight-minute anthem called American Pie? When I was young, we played it over and over again, lamenting the loss of Buddy Holly, Richie Valens, and The Big Bopper. But Don McLean was a singer-songwriter who was so much more than that song. Over his career, he amassed 40 gold and platinum records. Today we put him In the Spotlight for you.

7:00 p.m. Money, Honey: Various Artists

This is a great playlist talking about what appears to be everyone’s favorite topic: MONEY. Ask Elvis Presley, Peter Green’s Fleetwood Mac, J. J. Cale, Slim Harpo, The Beatles, King Crimson, Pink Floyd, The Steve Miller Band, Laura Nyro, Joni Mitchell, Barrett Strong, Van Morrison, The Guess Who, and many more!

We’re sitting here in The Mermaid Lounge eagerly awaiting your arrival. What are you waiting for?
