We’re Keeping It Simple With Our ‘Water, Water Everywhere’ EP and the Final Airing of Kate & Anna McGarrigle as Our Singer-Songwriters, Friday, February 24, 2023

Good morning, music lovers! We’re finally at the end of the week. For some reason it seemed far too long a trip. But we’ve got some great programming and a whole lot of wide Open Stream with The Music Mermaid today.

Here’s today’s musical landscape:

12:00 p.m. Water, Water Everywhere: Various Artists

Scientific fact: The earth is composed of 71% water. Musical fact: A hell of a lot of songs have been made about water. Today you’ll hear Paul McCartney, Deep Purple, Joe Cocker, Simon & Garfunkel, The Beatles, Otis Redding, Neil Young, Elton John, The Doobie Brothers, Valerie Carter, Bob Dylan, Alison Krauss & Union Station, Al Green, Loggins & Messina, Bob Seger & The Silver Bullet Band, Linda Ronstadt, Spirit, The Grass Roots, The Beach Boys, Lindisfarne, Van Morrison, Bonnie Raitt, Carole King, Steely Dan, Tom Rush, Donovan, America, Johnny Rivers and more!

7:00 p.m. Singer-Songwriter Series: The Music of Kate & Anna McGarrigle Final Airing!

Today is the final airing of Kate and Anna McGarrigle as our featured singer-songwriters, two masterful musical women who set out on a great musical journey with those who found their talents early on, like Linda Ronstadt, Maria Muldaur and Emmylou Harris. We here in The Mermaid Lounge have enjoyed hearing them sing their own tunes.

It’s Friday and we’ve finally made it to the end of the work week. The weekend is just around the corner and we’re gearing up for it. Why not start it off early by putting us on today? We’re on 24/7, we’re totally free, and we circulate nearly 30,000 songs continually.

We are at Midweek With Our ‘Under The Influence’ EP, Dylan as the Featured Singer-Songwriter, and Bonnie Raitt ‘Live’ In Studio With Her Friends, January 18, 2023

Good morning, Music Lovers! We’ve got a great lineup today as we are totally ‘Under the Influence’ with Bob Dylan as our singer-songwriter and some ‘live’ Bonnie Raitt with Lowell George and John Hammond.

Here’s the midweek lineup:

9:00 a.m. Under the Influence: Various Artists

They say music is usually about sex, drugs and rock n’ roll. This is the drug portion of the program, but there is also this thing called booze. Hey, we’ve all been here at one time in our lives or another. You’ll hear Arlo Guthrie, The Byrds, Jefferson Airplane, Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, Bob Dylan, Commander Cody & His Lost Planet Airmen, Donovan, Glen Frey, John Lee Hooker, Jonathan Edwards, Linda Ronstadt, Little Feat, The Traveling Wilburys, The Temptations, Small Faces, Steely Dan, Talking Heads, The Beatles, Neil Young, New Riders of The Purple Sage, Lynyrd Skynyrd, The Velvet Underground, The Rolling Stones, Dave Van Ronk, Emmylou Harris, John Prine, Jackson Browne, Steve Winwood, Led Zeppelin, Harry Chapin, The Band, The Fraternity of Man and more!

4:00 p.m. Singer-Songwriter Series: The Music of Bob Dylan

I don’t know what else I can say here about this guy other than what I’ve already said. This is our second airing of Bob Dylan as our featured singer-songwriter. Our final airing will come sometime on Friday.

8:00 p.m. Bonnie Raitt & Friends Live at Ultrasonic Studios, Hemstead, New York, October 17, 1972

Bonnie Raitt, Lowell George and John Hammond ‘live’ in studio for this one with a collection of great songs for your listening pleasure. There’s nothing like three musical geniuses getting together to spread the wealth. This is a great session.

We’re at midweek and the music today will hold us over as we head toward the downslide to the weekend once again. We’re totally free 24/7. Your money is no good here, kids. We don’t even so much as ask your name. All you need to do is click the button below.

Today It’s a New ‘Live’ Show by The Pretenders, Our ‘Out in The Cold’ Playlist and the Final Airing of Laura Nyro as Our Featured Singer-Songwriter, Friday, January 13, 2023

Good Morning, Global Family! Forget that it’s Friday the 13th. No bad luck here in The Mermaid Lounge; just great music 24/7 every day of the week at no cost to you! We’ve got a great lineup for you today starting with The Pretenders.

Here’s your Friday the 13th lineup:

10:00 a.m. The Pretenders Live at Laeiszhalle, Hamburg, Germany, June 23, 2009 NEW!

Chrissie Hynde is a force of nature and a real pioneer in the world of rock and it spills over into her great band. Today we have our very first ‘live’ Pretenders playlist from Germany.

3:00 p.m. Out in The Cold: Various Artists

We haven’t aired this one in a while and it’s about time. Of course, it’s not just about the cold weather. It’s about all weather. Here in the Boston area, we’re feeling the effects of global warming. It has not been cold at all. You will hear Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, Albert King, The Allman Brothers Band, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Bob Dylan, Johnny Rivers, James Taylor & Carole King, Bill Withers, Cream, Neil Young, Linda Ronstadt, The Beatles, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Michael Murphy, Dr. John, Electric Light Orchestra and more!

7:00 p.m. Singer-Songwriter Series: The Music of Laura Nyro FINAL AIRING!

Laura Nyro left us all far too early, but she left a legacy of musical genius that cannot be denied. Many recorded her songs over the years from The Fifth Dimension to Barbra Streisand, but there is nothing like hearing Laura Nyro sing her own compositions. See for yourself tonight.

If you’re just tuning us in for the first time, then you’re in luck…good luck. We’re on 24/7 at no charge to you and with no commercial advertising to interrupt the musical juju. We’re all about the music, and that’s the way it should be.

Today’s Music Includes ‘The Sixties Rotation, Volume Two,’ Our AOW, and a Trip Back to Woodstock ’69 (The Only Real Woodstock), Thursday, December 29, 2022

Good Morning, Musicologists! Today we have full-on Sixties for the two big music programs we’re running. It’s Open Stream with a theme here in The Mermaid Lounge and if you’re a student of the sixties music scene, this is your gig.

Here’s your musical lineup:

10:00 a.m. The Sixties Rotation, Volume Two: Various Artists

We’re starting off the day with the second leg of our Sixties Rotation which covers the later musical years, for the most part. You’ll hear The Mamas & The Papas, Simon & Garfunkel, Smokey Robinson & The Miracles, Jefferson Airplane, The Grateful Dead, Buffalo Springfield, Sly & The Family Stone, The Temptations, The Beach Boys, The Rolling Stones, The Who, Roy Orbison, The Yardbirds, The Animals, Linda Ronstadt, The Byrds, Chuck Berry, James Brown, Blind Faith, Spencer Davis Group, Elvis Presley, The Box Tops, The Doors, Marvin Gaye, Wilson Pickett, The Band, Bob Dylan, Judy Collins, The Beatles, The Ronettes, The Kinks, Jimmy Cliff, Creedence Clearwater Revival, The Zombies, Donovan, Velvet Underground, B.B. King, Led Zeppelin, and more!

4:00 p.m. Album of The Week: Carney by Leon Russell

We’re coming down to the wire here with this album. This is our next-to-last airing, with the final coming sometime on Saturday, time TBD. On Sunday, we’ll have a brand new selection.

7:00 p.m. Woodstock: Three Days of Peace, Love and Music: Various Artists, August 15-18, 1969, Bethel Woods, NY

The one and only Woodstock. Woodstock ’99 turned into a disaster because it replaced the ‘love’ portion of the program with ‘rage.’ The original Woodstock was NOT replicated. This EP will take you long into the night as you listen to The Band, Johnny Winter, Richie Havens, Arlo Guthrie, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Janis Joplin, CSNY, The Band, Joan Baez, Santana, Melanie, Country Joe & The Fish, Ten Years After, Jimi Hendrix, Paul Butterfield Blues Band, Joe Cocker, Tim Hardin, Mountain, John B. Sebastian and more. Joni Mitchell’s Woodstock and Melanie’s Lay Down (Candles in The Rain) would tell the tale of this epic music festival.

Yeah, baby. This is definitely a tune in, turn on, drop out kind of musical day here in The Mermaid Lounge. If you’re taking a break from work between the holidays, this is your day. If you’re working and have an office, close the door, pull up a fresh browser tab, and push the button below.

We Bring a Psychedelic Perspective to the Midweek and It’s Dan Fogelberg’s Second Airing as Our Featured Singer-Songwriter, On Wednesday, December 21, 2022

Good morning, lovers of psychedelia! This is one of my all-time favorite playlists here. We also give the ridiculously underrated Dan Fogelberg a second airing as our featured singer-songwriter.

Here’s your midweek lineup:

10:00 a.m. The Psychedelic Express: Various Artists

Yes, get on board the Psychedelic Express with us today to the innovators who managed to combine chemicals and composition. Some even lived to tell the tale. You’ll hear Vanilla Fudge, The Chambers Brothers, The Beatles, the Electric Prunes, The Animals, Jefferson Airplane, Blues Image, Creedence Clearwater Revival, The Doors, Pink Floyd, Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, Donovan, Strawberry Alarm Clock, The Byrds, Jimi Hendrix Experience, Traffic, Cream, Dr. John, Procol Harum, Fleetwood Mac, The Who, Canned Heat, Yes, Electric Light Orchestra, Tommy James & The Shondells, Mudcrutch, Blind Faith, the Grateful Dead, Velvet Underground, Big Brother & The Holding Company and more!

7:00 p.m. Singer-Songwriter Series: The Music of Dan Fogelberg

There’s a big campaign out there on social media to get Dan Fogelberg inducted into the Rock n’ Roll Hall of Fame. Considering the fact that they’ve inducted rap artists, ignoring a guy like Dan Fogelberg seems even more ridiculous. But then again, they didn’t induct Linda Ronstadt until she could no longer sing, and it took Carole King until 2021. These are WTF moments for me. Nevertheless, hope springs eternal. We love Dan Fogelberg here in The Mermaid Lounge, and we play his music for you tonight.

Midweek is here, meaning we’ll be on the downslide to the holiday weekend come Thursday. Life is good. And so is our radio station. We’re totally free 24/7 with no strings and no surprises. We play the best damned music on the planet. When we’re not running a program, The Music Mermaid is totally in charge of streaming. She spins he wheel and we see where it lands.

It’s Friday Morning and We’re All ‘Under the Influence’ To Start Things Off, Then We Continue Exploring The Heartbreakers’ Fillmore Box Later, December 16, 2022

Good Morning, Music Lovers! The weekend is nearly upon us once again, and we spend the morning with our ‘Under The Influence’ EP. Later, we continue onto volume two of the Heartbreakers’ long-awaited Fillmore box set.

Here’s today’s lineup:

11:00 a.m. Under The Influence: Various Artists

You know, we’ve all been here haven’t we? In one form or another, we’ve all been under the influence. Some of it legal. Some not. For some, love is the drug. (I hold no such illusions.) You’ll hear from Arlo Guthrie, Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, The Byrds, Jefferson Airplane, Bob Dylan, Commander Cody & His Lost Planet Airmen, Donovan, Glen Frey, John Lee Hooker, Jonathan Edwards, Linda Ronstadt, Little Feat, The Traveling Wilburys, The Temptations, Small Faces, Steely Dan, Talking Heads, The Beatles, Neil Young, New Riders of The Purple Sage, Lynyrd Skynyrd, The Velvet Underground, the Rolling Stones, Dave Van Ronk, Emmylou Harris, John Prine, Jackson Browne, Steve Winwood, Led Zeppelin, Harry Chapin, The Band, The Fraternity of Man and more!

7:00 p.m. Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers Live at The Fillmore, San Francisco, CA, 1997, Volume Two NEW!

We’re playing this one straight down the line, three sets with 24 songs in each in the exact order as presented on the discs. Today, we’ve got volume two up for you as we continue to unpack Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers’ Live at the Fillmore, 1997. It is truly a musical garden of earthly delights.

Tune us in. We are on 24/7 with no commercial advertising and at no cost to you. That’s right. Your money is no good here. We won’t even ask for a credit card number or your personal information. What are you waiting for?

Today Brings Our ‘Color My World’ Multi-Artist EP, and a Tribute to the Late, Great Christine McVie Who Sadly Passed Yesterday, Friday, December 2, 2022

Good Morning, Music Lovers! Today most of us learned of the passing of Christine McVie, whom we considered the heart and soul of Fleetwood Mac. She was an extraordinary talent whose roots were in the blues and today we pay her homage.

Here’s today’s musical journey:

11:00 a.m. Color My World: Various Artists

Our very first EP airing of the month is about colors, all colors of the spectrum, in the title, lyrics, or both. You’ll hear songs from Linda Ronstadt, Valerie Carter, The Kinks, The Beatles, The Traveling Wilburys, Jonathan Edwards, George Harrison, The Rolling Stones, Neil Young, John Hiatt, Joni Mitchell, Badfinger, Donovan, Jackson Browne, Bob Dylan, Ry Cooder, Elton John, Procol Harum, Electric Light Orchestra, Amy Winehouse, The Who, Emmylou Harris & Rodney Crowell, Sam & Dave, Jefferson Airplane, Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, Elvis Costello, Peter Green’s Fleetwood Mac, The Hollies, Jimi Hendrix Experience, Marvin Gaye, Booker T & The MGs, Lucnda Williams, John Cougar Mellencamp, Creedence Clearwater Revival and more!

7:00 p.m. In the Spotlight: The Music of Christine McVie NEW!

Although not the most flamboyant member of Fleetwood Mac, Christine McVie was, without a doubt, the heart and soul of that band. Her original roots were in singing the blues, starting with a British blues band called Chicken Shack. She also had a solo career prior to her marriage to John McVie when she was known as Christine Perfect. As a member of Fleetwood Mac, she wrote many of their biggest hits, like Say You Love Me, Over My Head, You Make Loving Fun and Don’t Stop. Christine McVie passed away on November 30 at the age of 79, leaving a hole in the music world. We pay tribute to her this evening.

Join in the fun. We’ve got listeners from around the globe on 24/7. They know a good thing when they hear it. We’re nonstop with no membership or credit card required. We’re all about the music here in The Mermaid Lounge. The Music Mermaid wouldn’t have it any other way.

Good Morning, Music Lovers! We’ve got a full slate of great music for you today here from The Mermaid Lounge, dominated by volume two (mid-to-late sixties) of our Sixties Rotation EP! But first, it’s the final airing of our Album of The Week.

Here’s your musical journey for today:

9:00 a.m. Album of The Week: Twelve Dreams of Dr. Sardonicus by Spirit FINAL AIRING!

The final airing of this week’s psychedelic masterpiece, one that is called the final masterpiece of the original psychedelic era. We have a brand new album coming up for tomorrow.

11:00 a.m. The Sixties Rotation, Volume Two: Various Artists

The second part to our Sixties Rotation EP series is up today and includes music from The Mamas & The Papas, Smokey Robinson & The Miracles, Simon & Garfunkel, Jefferson Airplane, The Grateful Dead, Buffalo Springfield, Sly & The Family Stone, The Temptations, The Beach Boys, The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, The Who, Roy Orbison, The Yardbirds, The Animals, Linda Ronstadt, The Byrds, Chuck Berry, James Brown, Blind Faith, The Spencer Davis Group, Elvis Presley, The Box Tops, The Doors, Marvin Gaye, Wilson Pickett, The Band, Bob Dylan, Judy Collins, The Ronettes, The Kinks, Jimmy Cliff, Creedence Clearwater Revival, The Zombies, Donovan, The Velvet Underground, B. 10:00 p.m. The Singer-Songwriter Series: The Music of Jackson Browne NEW!

Before Jackson Browne became a legendary solo artist, he had success writing songs for others. He wrote the song These Days at the age of sixteen. It became a minor hit in 1967 for Nico, a protégé of Andy Warhol. He also wrote songs for fellow Southern California bands, including the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band (he was a member of the band for a short time in 1966). The Eagles had their first hit in 1972 with a Jackson Browne song, Take It Easy. Browne also released his first solo album in 1972, which gave him his own Top 40 hits with Doctor My Eyes and Rock Me On The Water. The rest, as they say, is musical history, and Jackson Browne is this week’s featured Singer-Songwriter.

Great day to tune us in. Saturday always is. We’ve got listeners from Norway, Finland, Greece, Italy, Spain, the UK, Germany, Japan, Russian Federation, Portugal, Texas, Cali, and New York already this morning. Join the fun!

We Are at Midweek With Our ‘Water, Water Everywhere’ EP and a Return to Tom Petty Month With a Great ‘Live’ Show in Lucca, Wednesday, October 26, 2022

Good Morning, Music Lovers! We have a great day lined up with our ‘Water, Water Everywhere’ EP (appropriately, we are on our second day of gloomy weather here) and a return to Tom Petty Month!

We start very early today with ‘Water, Water Everywhere’ promptly at 8:00 a.m.

Here’s today’s anything-but-gloomy lineup:

8:00 a.m. Water, Water Everywhere: Various Artists

We like facts here in The Mermaid Lounge, even though we know our conservative counterparts have absolutely no use for facts. The fact is, however, that the earth is comprised of 71% water and today we pay it musical homage with Paul McCartney, Deep Purple, Joe Cocker Simon & Garfunkel, Bruce Springsteen, Jackson Browne, Otis Redding, Neil Young, Elton John, The Doobie Brothers, Valerie Carter, The Beatles, Bob Dylan, Al Green, Alison Krauss & Union Station, Loggins & Messina, Bob Seger & The Silver Bullet Band, Linda Ronstadt, Spirit, The Grass Roots, The Beach Boys, Lindisfarne, Van Morrison, Bonnie Raitt, Carole King, Steely Dan, Ton Rush, Johnny Rivers, The Beatles, America, Donovan and more!

7:00 p.m. Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers Live at Piazza Napoleone, Lucca, Italy, June 29, 2012

Without a doubt, one of our favorite Heartbreakers’ concerts ever right here, live from the Piazza Napoleone in Lucca, in my ancestral homeland, now fully engulfed in fascism. So, don’t say it can’t happen here. I know I digress and I have a “no politics” policy, but I fear that people need a warning shot about what’s going on around the world and that the U.S. is in real crisis right now.

Here’s the part where I tell you that you will be treated to a boatload of wide Open Stream courtesy of The Music Mermaid throughout the afternoon. We are free to all 24/7. No lie. No surprises. Come on in!

At Week’s End We’re on ‘The Psychedelic Express’ and Give You Some ‘Live’ Byrds Later, Friday, October 21, 2022

Good morning, psychedelic music lovers! Today we take a five-hour uninterrupted trip across the cosmos with ‘The Psychedelic Express’ EP. Later, it’s The Byrds live from Royal Albert Hall.

We’re boarding The Psychedelic Express at 11:00 a.m. sharp today! No stragglers!

Here’s your musical trip for today:

11:00 a.m. The Psychedelic Express: Various Artists

Take a trip inside your mind on The Psychedelic Express with Vanilla Fudge, The Chambers Brothers, The Beatles, Electric Prunes, The Animals, Jefferson Airplane, Blues Image, Creedence Clearwater Revival, The Doors, Pink Floyd, Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, Donovan, Strawberry Alarm Clock, The Byrds, The Jimi Hendrix Experience, Traffic, Cream, Dr. John, Procol Harum, Fleetwood Mac, The Who, Canned Heat, Yes, Electric Light Orchestra, Tommy James & The Shondells, Mudcrutch, Blind Faith, The Grateful Dead, Velvet Underground, Big Brother & The Holding Company and more!

7:00 p.m. The Byrds Live at Royal Albert Hall, London, UK, May 13, 1971

Tonight at 7:00 p.m. we air a live performance of The Byrds at Royal Albert Hall in London. It just so happens that this is, in a way, celebrating Tom Petty’s birthday because The Byrds great twangy guitar sound was a major influence on The Heartbreakers. Tune it in.

We’re here 24/7 at no cost to you. All you need to do is click on that little button below to get on board and take a trip to The Mermaid Lounge.
