Good Morning, Music Lovers around the globe. I’ve got an early start to my day, so we’ve got a bit of an early start to our music programming…and another of our multi-artist EPs.

We start off our musical journey with the legends of the American folk scene

Here’s your midweek line-up:

10:00 a.m. Folk Music From A-to-Z: Various Artists UPDATED!

We start today with the legends of folk, along with some folks who just happen to have dipped their toes into the folk music genre. Impressively, I might add. You’ll hear Tom Rush, Woody Guthrie, Bob Dylan, Judy Collins, Arlo Guthrie, Bonnie Raitt, Nanci Griffith, Dave Van Ronk, The Beatles, Joan Baez, The Stone Poneys, Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, The Wallflowers, Jesse Winchester, Eric Anderson, The Band, Emmylou Harris, Pete Seeger, Cat Stevens, Phil Ochs, Simon & Garfunkel, Odetta, Bruce Springsteen, Peter, Paul & Mary, John Prine, and many more!

7:00 p.m. In The Spotlight: Booker T. & The MGs

The history of this band is one for the books, folks, and I urge you all to read about it here. They came into play as the house band for Stax-Volt Records. The first iteration of band consisted of 17-year-old Booker T. Jones, Steve Cropper (who was eighteen), Lewie Steinberg, and Al Jackson, Jr., and the rest is musicl history. Tonight we put them In the Spotlight.

We’ve got Portugal, Italy, the UK, the Netherlands, Sweden, Switzerland, Russian Federation, Faroe Islands, Canada, Denmark, Norway, Spain, Germany, and points beyond tuning in this morning. What are you waiting for?

It’s Sunday Funday With Our Folk Music Longplayer; The Wallflowers Own Our Album of The Week, May 23, 2021

Good Morning, Folks! It’s Sunday Funday here in The Mermaid Lounge and it’s time once again for our folk music extravaganza and a brand new Album of The Week.

Folk Music From A to Z begins at 3:00 p.m. today!

Here’s your Sunday line-up:

11:00 a.m. Album of The Week: The Wallflowers by The Wallflowers NEW!

As you may (or may not) know, Jakob Dylan recently announced that there will be a brand new Wallflowers album for the first time in nine years. I just happened to catch a pre-release of one of the songs and it was great. It inspired me to make their 1992 debut release our Album of The Week this week. This is a pretty damned fine band. All songs were composed by Jakob Dylan with the exception of one, and he assisted on that one.

3:00 p.m. Folk Music From A to Z: Various Artists

One of our favorite playlists here in The Mermaid Lounge is afoot today, and you’ll hear Odetta, Pete Seeger, Bob Dylan, Peter, Paul & Mary, Bonnie Raitt, Woody Guthrie, Bruce Springsteen, Tom Petty,, The Beatles, Arlo Guthrie, Ton Rush, Joan Baez, The Band, Eric Andersen, Emmylou Harris, Joni Mitchell, Tim Hardin and many more.

You can catch the entire set list in the Playlist section of this blog. Just scroll until you find it!

Even the particular god of your choice took Sunday off. The retail establishments forget, of course, that Sunday is a day of rest. But Capitalism reigns here in America. We must exercise our right to buy seven days of the week even as our individual rights erode hourly (and I’m not talking about fucking masks either). But I digress. You must tune in, turn on, and drop out if that is an option for you. It’ll save your mental health. We won’t cost you a penny.

New Song Additions to The Standard Rotation Completed

We’ve just completed a new round of upgrades to the Standard Rotation, adding some brand new artists and bolstering the song collection of others.

We’ve added the music of Harry Chapin to our standard rotation.

Here’s the breakdown:

New Additions: Harry Chapin, Mitch Ryder, John Hartford, Glen Campbell, The Move (pre-ELO for Jeff Lynne), Eric Andersen, Cilla Black, Brenda Lee, Dion & The Belmonts, The Blues Project, The James Gang, Basia, Solomon Burke, and Quicksilver Messenger Service.

Additional Material: Cat Stevens, Kate & Anna McGarrigle, and Buddy Guy. We’ve also now put Bob Dylan’s entire catalogue in with the exception of his Christmas album. This includes his latest release, Rough and Rowdy Ways, which is coming up soon as our Album of The Week.

We are already working on pulling together material for another update and will keep you informed.
