Monday, Monday Brings The Original All-Girl Revue, The Band ‘In The Spotlight,’ & Live Jackson Browne, July 14, 2025

Good morning, musicologists! We’re back to the work week, but it can be so much better if you have the opportunity to tune us in. We’ve got a great lineup on tap today.

Here’s your Monday, Monday programming:

10:00 a.m. In The Spotlight: The Music of The Band

They went from Bob Dylan’s back-up band to one of the most respected and influential bands in modern music history. Indeed, that’s how they got their name: Bob Dylan used to refer to “the band.”

4:00 p.m. Jackson Browne Live at The Main Point, Bryn Mawr, PA, August 15, 1973

Later this afternoon, we’ve got one of the best singer-songwriters on the planet whose music has been covered by so many people singing his own stuff.

8:00 p.m. The Original All-Girl Revue: Various Artists

We’ve got a bunch of these and this is how we eventually built our big ‘Ladies Day Out’ EP. Every day is ‘ladies’ day here in The Mermaid Lounge. We haven’t aired our very first one in a very long time, so today we give you Linda Ronstadt, Mary Wells, Melanie, Etta James, Dusty Springfield, Petula Clark, Roberta Flack, Sheryl Crow, Shawn Colvin, Patti Smith, Chi Coltrane, Judy Collins, Carole King, Carly Simon, and more!

It’s Monday. Let’s face it, nobody wants to go back to work, so why not improve the situation with some good music. Hey, we are on 24/7 over 365 days a year. No break. No commercial interruptions. The button is below.

We’ve Made It To Friday and We’ve Got John Fogerty, ‘The British Are Coming’ EP, and The Original All-Girl Revue, July 12, 2024

Here we are again reporting from the cusp of the weekend here in The Mermaid Lounge with a John Fogerty Spotlight feature for starters. It keeps getting better from there.

Here’s your musical lineup:

9:00 a.m. In The Spotlight: The Music of John Fogerty

We’ve got John Fogerty’s music from his days as singer, guitarist and primary songwriter with Creedence Clearwater Revival to his solo career. Stop by The Lounge.

1:00 p.m. The British Are Coming: Various Artists

We’ve got them all here: The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, The Who, Dave Mason, Electric Light Orchestra, Petula Clark, The Zombies, The Hollies, Small Faces. Dusty Springfield, Small Faces, Led Zeppelin, Cream, Queen, The Kinks, The Dave Clark Five, the Bee Gees, The Moody Blues, Rod Stewart, Them, Herman’s Hermits, Gerry & The Pacemakers, Badfinger, The Yardbirds, Traffic, Elton John, Lulu, Pink Floyd, Yes, The Animals, the Spencer-Davis Group, Donovan, The Searchers and more!

8:00 p.m. The Original All-Girl Revue: Various Artists

This was the very first all-woman music list we put together; several others followed. And then we made our big, bad ‘Ladies Day Out’ EP. The original all-girl revue playlist includes Ann Peebles, Bobbie Gentry, Chi Coltrane, Carole King, Linda Ronstadt, Laura Nyro, Roberta Flack, Melanie, Mary Wells, Fontella Bass, Lulu, Joni Mitchell, Emmylou Harris, Irma Thomas, Janis Joplin, Judy Collins, Patti Smith and more!

Today’s Music Includes ‘The Sixties Rotation, Volume Two,’ Our AOW, and a Trip Back to Woodstock ’69 (The Only Real Woodstock), Thursday, December 29, 2022

Good Morning, Musicologists! Today we have full-on Sixties for the two big music programs we’re running. It’s Open Stream with a theme here in The Mermaid Lounge and if you’re a student of the sixties music scene, this is your gig.

Here’s your musical lineup:

10:00 a.m. The Sixties Rotation, Volume Two: Various Artists

We’re starting off the day with the second leg of our Sixties Rotation which covers the later musical years, for the most part. You’ll hear The Mamas & The Papas, Simon & Garfunkel, Smokey Robinson & The Miracles, Jefferson Airplane, The Grateful Dead, Buffalo Springfield, Sly & The Family Stone, The Temptations, The Beach Boys, The Rolling Stones, The Who, Roy Orbison, The Yardbirds, The Animals, Linda Ronstadt, The Byrds, Chuck Berry, James Brown, Blind Faith, Spencer Davis Group, Elvis Presley, The Box Tops, The Doors, Marvin Gaye, Wilson Pickett, The Band, Bob Dylan, Judy Collins, The Beatles, The Ronettes, The Kinks, Jimmy Cliff, Creedence Clearwater Revival, The Zombies, Donovan, Velvet Underground, B.B. King, Led Zeppelin, and more!

4:00 p.m. Album of The Week: Carney by Leon Russell

We’re coming down to the wire here with this album. This is our next-to-last airing, with the final coming sometime on Saturday, time TBD. On Sunday, we’ll have a brand new selection.

7:00 p.m. Woodstock: Three Days of Peace, Love and Music: Various Artists, August 15-18, 1969, Bethel Woods, NY

The one and only Woodstock. Woodstock ’99 turned into a disaster because it replaced the ‘love’ portion of the program with ‘rage.’ The original Woodstock was NOT replicated. This EP will take you long into the night as you listen to The Band, Johnny Winter, Richie Havens, Arlo Guthrie, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Janis Joplin, CSNY, The Band, Joan Baez, Santana, Melanie, Country Joe & The Fish, Ten Years After, Jimi Hendrix, Paul Butterfield Blues Band, Joe Cocker, Tim Hardin, Mountain, John B. Sebastian and more. Joni Mitchell’s Woodstock and Melanie’s Lay Down (Candles in The Rain) would tell the tale of this epic music festival.

Yeah, baby. This is definitely a tune in, turn on, drop out kind of musical day here in The Mermaid Lounge. If you’re taking a break from work between the holidays, this is your day. If you’re working and have an office, close the door, pull up a fresh browser tab, and push the button below.

We’ve Got Lots of Open Stream Today Punctuated by Two Guitar Gods and The Ladies of Rock Later, Friday, July 9, 2021

Good Morning, Musicologists! It’s Friday here in The Mermaid Lounge and we’re giving you lots of open stream today as we prepare for our usual hectic Saturday programming.

Later on today, The Ladies are in charge.

Here’s your line-up:

12:00 p.m. Duane Allman & Eric Clapton: Studio Jams 1-6

Here we have just over an hour of music from two of the best in the business, just hanging out in the studio together blowing the doors off the place. Enjoy.

7:00 p.m. The All-Girl Revue Volume 3: Various Artists

We Open With the Original All-Girl Revue, Move to Jackson Browne Live at The Main Point, and Close With the Iconic Beatles Rooftop Concert, Friday, April 9, 2021

We’re back with programming today, but just in the right amounts. We’ve got a new “live” event today as we bring in some new material for the spring and summer, and we’ve added some new music, which we’ll tell you about in a separate blog entry later today.

The Beatles Rocked the Apple Rooftop Back in ’69 for a glorious 42 minutes.

Here’s today’s line-up:

11:00 a.m. The Original All-Girl Revue: Various Artists

The very first “all-girls” list we ever put together is back with Carly Simon, Carole King, Linda Ronstadt, Lulu, Janis Joplin, Mary Wells, Joan Baez, Melanie, Roberta Flack, Shawn Colvin, Sheryl Crow, The Supremes, Fontella Bass, Stevie Nicks, and more!

3:00 p.m. Jackson Browne Live at The Main Point, Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania, August 15, 1973 NEW!

This is a short (by today’s standards, of course) sweet, spirited set by Jackson Browne along with brilliant multi-instrumentalist David Lindley which took place at the now-defunct Main Point, a small, intimate venue.

7:00 p.m. The Beatles: The Complete Apple Rooftop Concert, January 30, 1969

For 42 glorious minutes, The Beatles thrilled the lunchtime crowd with an impromptu concert on the rooftop of Apple headquarters at 3 Saville Row before the Metropolitan Police shut them down for excessive noise. Billy Preston joined them on keyboards.

You simply have got to join your friends from France, Germany, the UK, Canada, Italy, Japan, the Russian Federation, the Faroe Islands, and points beyond. Just open a tab and click the link below:

The All-Girl Revue, The Rolling Stones ‘Live’ in San Jose, Springsteen’s Seeger Sessions, and Band On The Run, Tuesday, February 18, 2020

Good Morning, Ungovernables! Does it get any better than this? Of course, it can. This is #BecomeUngovernable Radio where everything we do every day is done without giving one thought to the system.

Springsteens Seeger Sessions-1

Here’s today’s line-up:

11:00 a.m.     Album of the Week: Paul McCartney & Wings, Band On The Run

The problem with being a Beatle is that — as a solo artist — you are always measured by the band’s standards. When it’s one of you, those are eight tough shoes to fill. This album was, without a doubt, outstanding. And given the various calamities that took place during the recording of this album, it’s a miracle it was. You can read about it here.

2:00 p.m.      The All-Girl Revue, Volume 3

Joni Mitchell, Linda Ronstadt, Janis Joplin, Emmylou Harris, Melanie, and Dolly Parton grace this particular volume.

5:00 p.m.      The Rolling Stones, One From the Vault: San Jose, 1999

Mick and the boys tear it up.

9:00 p.m.      Bruce Springsteen’s Seeger Sessions

This shit is just unbelievable. Springsteen pays appropriate homage to folk god Pete Seeger.

Before, in between, at the end…in fact, 24/7: We are open all day and night with the best music on the damned planet. See for yourself.
