Monday Brings Our ‘Out In The Cold’ Playlist, Then the Gregg Allman Band and The Grateful Dead, October 28, 2024

Good morning, musicologists. Today we’re ‘Out In the Cold’ then it’s live Gregg Allman Band and a Grateful Dead ‘Spotlight’ feature.

Here’s your musical lineup:

10:00 a.m. Out In The Cold: Various Artists

Not an EP, but good enough to start the day! Songs about the weather with Albert King, Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Bob Dylan, Johnny Rivers, Bill Withers, The Association, Neil Young, Martha & The Vandellas, The Beatles, Jimi Hendrix Experience, The Doors, Joni Mitchell, James Taylor, Electric Light Orchestra and more!

4:00 p.m. The Gregg Allman Band Live at Wolfgang’s, San Francisco, CA, May 14, 1987

Afternoon brings a live performance from Gregg Allman’s ‘other’ band at Wolfgang’s. Back in the day, Wolfgang’s was the place, a small 600-seat venue which is now defunct. Still, it’s easier to remember who did not play the venue than those who did. It was that popular.

8:00 p.m. In The Spotlight: The Music of The Grateful Dead

I’m one of those people who likes the Dead’s studio music better than their live performances. Founding member and bass player Phil Lesh passed away this past week, and we air this in honor of him today.

Yes, it’s a return to the work day today. Mondays are always rough, but we can get you through! We’re on 24/7 with no commercial interruption playing the best music on the planet. And we’re free. Just close your door and pull up a tab. The button is below.

Welcome to Monday, Monday With The Beatles, David Crosby and Our ‘Out In The Cold’ Playlist, December 11, 2023

Good morning, workers! We’ve got a great day lined up for you musically starting with one of our House Bands known as The Beatles.

Here’s your musical lineup:

A listener suggested we expand our Beatles horizon with some new playlists, so we’re doing just that. Today we kick one off with Beatle songs with Mr. Lennon playing all kinds of keys, like piano, electric piano, harpsichord, Hammond organ and any other kind of keyboard instrument you might find.

3:00 p.m. In the Spotlight: The Music of David Crosby

Haven’t cued this one up in a bit, so we’ve got it lined up for mid-afternoon. Personality conflicts abound in musical groups, and CSNY was no exception. Yet they managed to leave us an incredible body of music, and David Crosby was an influence for more than half a century as a solo artist, with CSNY and as a founding member of The Byrds.

7:00 p.m. Out In The Cold: Various Artists

Not an EP, but a great playlist about the weather with Bob Dylan, Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Marshall Tucker Band, Bill Withers, The Beatles, The Doors, Joni Mitchell, Dr. John, Martha & The Vandellas and more!

Today It’s a New ‘Live’ Show by The Pretenders, Our ‘Out in The Cold’ Playlist and the Final Airing of Laura Nyro as Our Featured Singer-Songwriter, Friday, January 13, 2023

Good Morning, Global Family! Forget that it’s Friday the 13th. No bad luck here in The Mermaid Lounge; just great music 24/7 every day of the week at no cost to you! We’ve got a great lineup for you today starting with The Pretenders.

Here’s your Friday the 13th lineup:

10:00 a.m. The Pretenders Live at Laeiszhalle, Hamburg, Germany, June 23, 2009 NEW!

Chrissie Hynde is a force of nature and a real pioneer in the world of rock and it spills over into her great band. Today we have our very first ‘live’ Pretenders playlist from Germany.

3:00 p.m. Out in The Cold: Various Artists

We haven’t aired this one in a while and it’s about time. Of course, it’s not just about the cold weather. It’s about all weather. Here in the Boston area, we’re feeling the effects of global warming. It has not been cold at all. You will hear Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, Albert King, The Allman Brothers Band, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Bob Dylan, Johnny Rivers, James Taylor & Carole King, Bill Withers, Cream, Neil Young, Linda Ronstadt, The Beatles, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Michael Murphy, Dr. John, Electric Light Orchestra and more!

7:00 p.m. Singer-Songwriter Series: The Music of Laura Nyro FINAL AIRING!

Laura Nyro left us all far too early, but she left a legacy of musical genius that cannot be denied. Many recorded her songs over the years from The Fifth Dimension to Barbra Streisand, but there is nothing like hearing Laura Nyro sing her own compositions. See for yourself tonight.

If you’re just tuning us in for the first time, then you’re in luck…good luck. We’re on 24/7 at no charge to you and with no commercial advertising to interrupt the musical juju. We’re all about the music, and that’s the way it should be.

We’re On the Downslide To The Weekend With the Complete Trio Sessions, Our AOW, and Our ‘Out In The Cold’ Playlist, Thursday, May 19, 2022

Good Morning, Music Lovers! We’ve got a great day on tap today, including the complete Trio sessions with Linda Ronstadt, Dolly Parton, and Emmylou Harris!

Trio (Dolly Parton, Emmylou Harris, Linda Ronstadt) is a bona fide SUPERGROUP although nobody but us ever says it.

Here’s your Thursday lineup:

11:00 a.m. Linda Ronstadt, Dolly Parton, Emmylou Harris: The Complete Trio Sessions

Continuing on the theme of the women getting short shrift in the music business, this is one of the most amazing supergroups ever to set foot in a recording studio, although nobody ever seems to say the word “supergroup.” What we have for you here are the complete sessions that result in the two critically-acclaimed Trio I and Trio II albums, replete with unreleased gems, remasters, remixes, and alternate versions. Kick back and enjoy this one.

4:00 p.m. Album of The Week: Get On Board, Taj Mahal with Ry Cooder

This is the next-to-last airing of this great new album that pays homage to blues greats Sonny Terry and Brownie McGhee. Taj Mahal and Ry Cooder reunite 56 years after their Rising Sons collaboration for this one.

7:00 p.m. Out In The Cold: Various Artists

A playlist that talks about the weather in the title, lyrics or both! We feature Bill Withers, The Association, Linda Ronstadt, Johnny Rivers, Albert King, Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, Cream, Donovan, The Doors, Jimi Hendrix Experience, Tom Rush, Dr. John, Electric Light Orchestra, The Beatles, Joni Mitchell, Neil Young, Martha & The Vandellas and more!

Get your shit together, people, and tune us in. We don’t ask you for money. Ever. We don’t require a commitment (of any kind), and we certainly don’t want your personal information. We have enough problems remembering our own. And did I mention we run uninterrupted 24/7? Well, we do.

Today We Are ‘Out In The Cold’, Listening to New ‘Live’ Neil Young, and Put Johnny Rivers In The Spotlight, Monday, December 27, 2021

Another Monday rolls around as we approach the end of this year, but we’ve got you covered musically, my friends with some vintage stuff today.

We’ve got some ‘live’ vintage Neil Young & Crazy Horse today!

Here’s your Monday, Monday line-up:

11:00 a.m. Out In The Cold: Various Artists

We kick it off with a great, multi-artist playlist all about the weather. We’ve got songs with references to the weather — inclement or otherwise — in the title or lyrics. Or both. You’ll hear Carole King, James Taylor, Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, Albert King, The Marshall Tucker Band, Linda Ronstadt, Martha & The Vandellas, Tom Rush, Dr. John, Electric Light Orchestra, Neil Young (speak of the devil), Cream, Bill Withers, Johnny Rivers, and more!

3:00 p.m. Neil Young & Crazy Horse, Live at The Cow Palace, San Francisco, October 22, 1978 NEW!

Great bands never die. Crazy Horse, for example. Young’s new album with Crazy Horse, Barn, is out now and will be our Album of The Week very soon. In the meantime, we’ve got a great, vintage live performance dating back to 1978 at the Cow Palace from the Cortez The Killer tour. It’s new to the station, so tune it in!

7:00 p.m. In The Spotlight: The Music of Johnny Rivers

We haven’t streamed this one in a while, and we here in The Mermaid Lounge consider Johnny Rivers an underrated musical entity. He was a hit machine during the sixties and seventies, and his live performances at the Whiskey are legendary. Today, we put him In the Spotlight where he belongs.

What better way to kick off a Monday? We’ve got great music coming your way, all totally free with no commercials and no chatty DJ’s to suck up all the air in the room. All you need is a tab and an index finger. Trust me.
