One of the great trios of all time here with Stevie Ray Vaughan front and center in a live performance from Carnegie Hall. A most excellent way to end our Tuesday Bluesday programming.

7:00 p.m. In the Spotlight: The Music of Susan Tedeschi NEW!

If you ask people about Susan Tedeschi, they’ll talk about the Tedeschi Trucks Band, one of the absolute best bands on the planet. Yet Boston-born and raised Susan Tedeschi had a solo career long before she met and married Derek Trucks, one of the best guitarists on the planet. Susan Tedeschi is one kick-ass vocalist, and tonight we give her a Spotlight featuring her solo stuff. (We also have a Tedeschi Trucks Spotlight and are putting together a Derek Trucks Band Spotlight in the next week or so.)

Here we are on another Tuesday Bluesday, and we are ready and raring to go here in The Mermaid Lounge. We are amping up our blues content in 2023, and we think you’re going to like it! Stick around.

Here’s your Tuesday Bluesday lineup:

10:00 a.m. The Best of Chicago Blues: Various Artists

There’s nothing quite like the blues coming out of Chi-Town, and we’ve got some fine bluesologists today in Otis Rush, Willie Dixon, Albert King, Muddy Waters, Little Walter, Bo Diddley, Koko Taylor, Lowell Fulson, Howlin’ Wolf, Buddy Guy, Magic Slim, Sonny Boy Williamson, Son Seals, James Cotton, Paul Butterfield, Elmore James, Jimmy Reed, Otis Spann and more!

4:00 p.m. Album of The Week: Rumors by Fleetwood Mac

Our second airing of this great power pop album by Fleetwood Mac is the one break from blues programming today.

7:00 p.m. Gregg Allman Live at The House of Blues, New Orleans, LA, December 31, 2012

We close out our blues programming with this fine 2012 New Years Eve Gregg Allman show at the New Orleans House of Blues. I’ve visited this venue several times. Don’t know if it’s the same now as it was the last time I was there in 2014, but it featured Fats Domino’s piano. Great space.

We’ve always got a full house on Tuesday Bluesday, and I’m sure it’ll be the same today. Don’t miss it. It only comes once a week! We’re on 24/7 and we’re totally free of charge, folks. What more could you possibly ask for? Oh, right, no commercial advertising to interrupt the mood and no chatty DJ’s to mess up the vibe. Get on it.

It’s Another Fine Tuesday Bluesday With Our ‘Best of Chicago Blues’ EP, Our AOW, and B. B. King In the Spotlight, November 8, 2022

Blues lovers, it is your day as we start it off with our ‘Best of Chicago Blues’ EP and close it out with B. B. King. In between, it’s our Album of The Week.

We are the House of Blues every Tuesday and here’s today’s lineup:

10:00 a.m. The Best of Chicago Blues: Various Artists

There’s nothing like Chicago for blues and this multi-artist EP brings you Otis Rush, Willie Dixon, Albert King, Muddy Waters, Little Water, Bo Diddley, Koko Taylor, Lowell Fulson, Howlin’ Wolf, Buddy Guy, Magic Slim, Sonny Boy Williamson, Son Seals, James Cotton, Paul Butterfield, Elmore James, Jimmy Reed, Otis Spann and more!

4:00 p.m. Album of The Week: Sweet Harmony by Maria Muldaur

Technically, this album fits just fine on a Tuesday Bluesday since Maria Muldaur refuses to be defined by any single genre of music and has successfully combined a bit of blues, jazz and folk in this fine album. See for yourself this afternoon.

7:00 p.m. In The Spotlight: The Music of B. B. King

B. B. King was a pioneer who defined the blues for a worldwide audience. As a guitar innovator, King developed an intricate style of blues solo playing based on fluid string bending, shimmering vibrato, and staccato picking with the help of the most important woman in his life, Lucille. This style would inspire future blues guitarists, and it’s here tonight at 7:00 p.m. EST.

It’s always a full house on Tuesday Bluesdays and we’ve got listeners from Greece, Italy, France, the UK, Norway, Denmark, The Netherlands, Portugal, Spain, Russian Federation, Faroe Islands, Australia, Texas, California and New York this morning. Join our international community!

7:00 p.m. Johnny Winter Live at The Bottom Line, New York City, NY, September 5, 1978

One of the best bluesmen of all time here, albeit a bit overlooked at times. Winter was not only a great blues guitarist and singer, known for his high-energy blues albums and live performances in the late 60s and 70s, but he also produced three Grammy Award-winning albums for the great Muddy Waters.

9:00 p.m. Album of The Week: Electric Music for The Mind and Body, Country Joe & The Fish

We close out the day’s programming outside the realm of the blues with one of the first psychedelic albums to come out of San Francisco.
