Tune us in. It’s a great day to do it. After all, it’s Monday and nothing can improve the prospects for a Monday more than great music as your backdrop.

We Kick Off a New Month With Our Big, Bad ‘M is For Motown’ EP and Linda Ronstadt In the Spotlight, Wednesday, June 1, 2022

“M” is indeed for Motown today!

Here’s your musical landscape:

10:00 a.m. M is For Motown: Various Artists

Every month is Black History Month here in The Mermaid Lounge. We have more than one soul and R & B EP in our collection, but this one focuses strictly on Motown artists. You’ll hear Barrett Strong, Eddie Kendricks, Eddie Holland, Edwin Starr, Gladys Knight & The Pips, The Jackson Five, Kim Weston, Jr. Walker & The All Stars, Marvin Gaye, Martha & The Vandellas, Stevie Wonder, Smokey Robinson & The Miracles, The Four Tops, The Isley Brothers, The Temptations, The Contours, Mary Wells, Rare Earth, Tammi Terrell, Diana Ross & The Supremes, the Marvelettes, The Spinners, Jimmy Ruffin, and more! That amounts to just about five hours of uninterrupted music from Motor City.

7:00 p.m. In The Spotlight: The Music of Linda Ronstadt

The music world is full of judgment. In fact, you can look to the word ‘judgment’ as an example. Nobody can really definitively tell you the correct spelling, so fuck it. Some people in music are made to write. Bobbie Gentry, for example, never wanted to sing. She wanted to write songs for other people. Linda Ronstadt, on the other hand, has proven that she can write, but she didn’t think it was necessary since there were already so many great songwriters out there. All she wanted to do was sing. And that’s just fine with me because that voice can sing anything. She’s simply the greatest female vocalist of all time. If you have not yet had the chance to see the documentary, The Sound of My Voice, you need to. The fact that she can no longer sing is a travesty. But we have an amazing body of work from Linda Ronstadt, and it is on display here tonight.

This is a most excellent day to tune us in. I mean, it doesn’t get much better than this. We’re totally free. We do not accept or air advertising. And we’re on the air 24/7. What more could you ask for?

It’s May Day in The Mermaid Lounge and We’ve Got Valerie Carter With Our New AOW, and The ‘M is For Motown’ EP, Sunday, May 1, 2022

Good Morning, lovers of that Motor City sound! You’ve got it starting this afternoon and evening, but first we kick off the day with our brand new Album of The Week by a Mermaid Lounge favorite, Valerie Carter.

‘M is For Motown’ kicks off at 3:00 p.m. EST!

Here’s your Sunday lineup:

11:00 a.m. Album of The Week: The Lost Tapes, Volume Two by Valerie Carter NEW!

Once again, Valerie Carter’s close friend, Kathy Kurasch, has done a masterful job keeping Carter’s legacy alive. We have been eagerly waiting for this release here in The Mermaid Lounge and it makes its debut here today. Most of all, it’s critical to remind everyone that, while Valerie Carter wanted to remain in the background, her vocal talents made her one of the most ‘in demand’ singers of her generation. Check out her website to see the breadth of her work. She was also one of the most down-to-earth and fully-evolved humans on the planet.

3:00 p.m. M is For Motown: Various Artists

We’re back with the sounds of Motor City. You’ll hear Barrett Strong, Eddie Kendricks, Eddie Holland, Edwin Starr, Gladys Knight & The Pips, The Jackson 5, Kim Weston, Jr. Walker & The All-Stars, Marvin Gaye, Martha & The Vandellas, Stevie Wonder, Smokey Robinson & The Miracles, The Four Tops, The Isley Brothers, The Temptations, The Contours, Mary Wells, Rare Earth, Tammi Terrell, Diana Ross & The Supremes, The Marvellettes, The Spinners, Jimmy Ruffin and more!

What are you waiting for, kids? I mean, it doesn’t get any better than 24/7 music with no commercial interruption and no payment required. If you’re hesitating because you think it’s too good to be true, I suggest you put that theory to the test. Because the facts will prove otherwise.
