At Week’s End, We Turn the Spotlight On Our Two ‘House’ Bands, Friday, December 10, 2021

Good Morning, Musicologists! If you follow us, you know we’re very careful not to overplay our two house bands, a very difficult task since we consider them the two best bands ever to strap on guitars. Today, we’re not worrying about such things.

Our programming today focuses on our House Bands!

Here’s today’s programming:

11:00 a.m. Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers: Live and Loving It!

This playlist just underwent a very modest update, and it remains one of our favorite playlists. Here we have our very subjective favorite ‘live’ performances by Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers (and some stuff from Mudcrutch is indeed included). This is like a smorgasbord of the greatest live stuff from one of the greatest live bands on the planet, and includes some great covers of songs that Mike Campbell says come from bands that are part of The Heartbreakers’ DNA.

7:00 p.m. The Beatles: The Let It Be Sessions

In light of Peter Jackson’s new documentary about The Fab Four and the 50th Anniversary of Let It Be, we are giving you a great playlist here. It includes about thirty minutes of sessions that were previously unreleased, and then there are the final songs from Let It Be the way it was originally planned for listening (before the sessions were handed over to Phil Spector and he applied the Wall of Sound), which resulted in the album Let It Be Naked.

Celebrating our house bands together is something we’ve not done before, so this would be a great day to tune us in! It doesn’t cost you a penny, folks. That’s all on us. All we are doing is playing great music all day long. Tune us in.

It’s A Beatles Kind of Day As We Close Out The Month; We’ve Also Got The Wilburys With the AOW, and Our ‘On The Map’ Playlist Later, Thursday, September 30, 2021

Good Morning, Beatles Lovers (and I, for one, am one)! It’s a Beatles kind of day here today in The Mermaid Lounge, and with good reason! Read on!

In spite of the rumors, The Beatles were still loose and enjoying each other at the end.

Here’s today’s line-up:

11:00 a.m. The Beatles: The Let It Be Sessions

October is a big month. The 50th Anniversary 5-CD set of Let It Be will be released on October 15 replete with remixes (McCartney was unhappy with Phil Spector’s versions of some of the songs; and I agree), outtakes, alternate versions, and other goodies. Peter Jackson’s six-hour Let It Be documentary will be released on October 15 as well, with the companion book, The Beatles: Get Back, coming on October 12.

We’ve had this little gem for a while now and have played it before. We thought this would be an appropriate way to kick out the September jams as we get ready for October.

3:00 p.m. Album of The Week: The Traveling Wilburys, Volume One

Back with our next-to-last airing of this great album. October will also be Tom Petty Month here in The Mermaid Lounge. And you’ll hear plenty of the Wilburys as well during this time.

7:00 p.m. On The Map: Various Artists

We close out the day’s programming with our ‘On The Map’ playlist with cities, towns and locations in either the title, lyrics, or both. You’ll hear The Doors, The Beatles, The Beach Boys, Asleep At The Wheel, Linda Ronstadt, Fats Domino, America, Bonnie Raitt, Little Feat, Paul Simon, Ray Charles, Neil Young, Tom Rush, Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, Irma Thomas & Marcia Ball, The Grateful Dead, James Taylor, CSNY, Scott McKenzie, and more!

We’re ready to rock n’ roll. Are you? Tune us in today as we close out September. You can join our friends from Germany, the UK, Spain, Italy, France, Denmark, Switerland, Japan, The Faroe Islands, Portugal, The Russian Federation, Canada, and the U.S. (Texas, Missouri, and New York this morning).
