Good Morning, Ungovernables!
We’ve revamped the blog a bit as you can see. Part of the growing process, as it were. The planned programs now occupy its own page with no intermingling of posts like these. Likewise, Posts now has its own page. This is important as we’ll be posting more information each week.
We have a programming director, part-time DJ (no live radio as yet; we need to master the programmed version before we attempt that), an actual shoot-in-the-dark programmer of playlists, the download queen, and a general all-around troubleshooter. They are all named Deb Della Piana. Unfortunately.
Then, we have Sarah Freels who helps create the content you see as we promote, and who does the lion share of the sharing and promoting of the radio station. She even has a sign promoting the station when she goes out and protests weekly. Terri O’Connor is a rabid sharer of the station on many levels. She also served as the station’s musical guinea pig. The rest of the Ungovernables share us out as part of our overall program.
Right now, we need all hands on deck sharing as much of our stuff as possible so that we can grow our listener reach. Right now, we have more regular listeners outside the U.S. than inside.
What you hear
Our station is programmed purposely the way it is. It is 24/7 streaming, rotating nearly 20,000 songs at this point. We have 50,000+ at our disposal and unlimited lifetime space. We continue to upload daily.
Some of those items programmed are what we call playlists. A playlist can be tossed into the rotation at any time. So, the computer can pick up, say, a Tom Petty concert or a Grateful Dead concert randomly and play it. So, here’s what you must remember:
I have programmed this station to never interrupt what is playing until it is completely over, even if it is a playlist. I have actually listened to stations that stop a program in midstream to ensure that a scheduled program begins. It is irritating to the extreme. We do not do that at #BecomeUngovernable Radio. Therefore, if a news program is scheduled for 2 p.m., but there’s a playlist playing, it will not begin until that playlist is completed.
The station will continue to evolve over time. This week we begin focusing on Album of the Week. It will be promoted on the blog and will play throughout the week at various times. Our first entry is Music From Big Pink.
We will also begin adding back in some things we tested out, including old-time radio episodes and revolution podcasts (the word political is dead to me).
The absolute best way to stay informed is to sign on to follow this blog. It will only get better as we go forward. If you’re a music freak like I am, I promise we’re going to have some fun here.
