We Welcome You to Another Monday With OUR Top 50 Tom Petty Songs, and Aretha Franklin In the Spotlight, September 13, 2021

Good Morning, Musicologists! Sorry I’m running a tad late, but the old music bat slept in a bit. I needed it. Yesterday, I saw a list of Tom Petty’s Top 50 songs from a radio station and was inspired to share our list with you once again.

Today we give you Petty’s Top 50 songs with the Heartbreakers, Mudcrutch, The Wilburys and as a solo artist.

Here’s your line-up:

11:00 a.m. Deb’s Stream: Tom Petty’s Top 50 Songs

Before we begin, let me say that these are not ranked in any kind of order. That would be totally impossible, I’m afraid, for anyone in The Mermaid Lounge to do. I didn’t even review the list, which was originally done several months ago, because I knew I’d have rearranged my brain around these again. Let’s leave well enough alone, I say.

Here we have our version of Petty’s Top 50. This was inspired by a list I posted on Twitter yesterday generated by some radio station somewhere. The songs are from his work with The Heartbreakers, Mudcrutch, The Traveling Wilburys, and as a solo artist.

Whether you agree with the list or not, consider the bonus: You get just over three hours of Tom Petty music. And that cannot be bad. Buy the way, anyone who wants to make a case to remove a song and replace it with another can always feel free to write us at become.ungovernable.radio@gmail.com.

6:00 p.m. In the Spotlight: The Music of Aretha Franklin

The undisputed Queen of Soul will be in the spotlight this evening a bit earlier than our 7:00 p.m. start because it’s my day off from the salt mines and because I can. So, there.

Give us a shot. This morning we’ve got plenty of listeners from Japan, Spain, the UK, Norway, Denmark, France, Romania, The Russian Federation, Portugal, Canada, Brazil, Australia, Germany, Poland, and Argentina. We’re waiting, United States. Where the hell are you?
