Today It’s ‘For Foodies’ Followed by Our Album of The Week and Marvin Gaye Later, Thursday, December 16, 2021

Good Morning, Musicologists! We have shorter playlists too and today you get one. It’s the next-to-last airing of our Album of The Week, and Marvin Gaye brings up the rear later.

Marvin Gaye’s influence in the development of the Motown sound earned him the title ‘The Prince of Motown’

Here’s today’s line-up:

11:00 a.m. Foodies Only: Various Artists

It has been a while for this one, but it’s a fun playlist, and a sumptuous feast for your ears. Food and drink in the title, lyrics, or both. Perfect timing. Right around lunchtime. Enjoy the banquet from The Rolling Stones, Sam & Dave, Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, The Beatles, The Four Tops, The Strangeloves, Led Zeppelin, Tommy James & The Shondells, Cream, Don McLean, The Guess Who, Neil Young, Lucinda Williams, The Eagles, The Kinks, Bob Dylan, Guy Clark, The Lovin’ Spoonful, Harry Nilsson, Fats Domino, Steely Dan, Judy Collins, Van Morrison and more!

3:00 p.m. Album of The Week: Brainwashed by George Harrison

George’s final album was released just about a year after his death, brought to fruition by both his son, Dhani, and his Wilbury mate, Jeff Lynne. That was George’s wish. The result is a great final album from a great musician and fully-evolved human being. This is the next-to-last airing. If you haven’t yet paid attention to this album, do so today! Our last airing will be Saturday.

7:00 p.m. In the Spotlight: The Music of Marvin Gaye

People refer to Marvin Gaye’s story as “tragic.” But the “tragic” part was only part of Marvin Gaye’s legacy. His influence on the development of the Motown sound earned him the title ‘The Prince of Motown.’ He left behind a musical legacy of great soul and R & B songs which should not be overshadowed by the tragic nature of his death.
