We’re at Midweek With Our ‘Travelin’ Fever’ Multi-Artist EP and a Joni Mitchell Birthday Celebration on Wednesday, November 9, 2022

Good Morning, Musicologists! We’re at midweek and we’ve got our multi-artist ‘Travelin’ Fever’ EP along with a ‘live’ Joni Mitchell performance in celebration of her 79th birthday!

Here’s our midweek musical offering:

10:00 a.m. Travelin’ Fever: Various Artists

We’re back on the road with our ‘Travelin’ Fever’ multi-artist EP and Canned Heat, Tom Petty & The Hearbreakers, Creedence Clearwater Revival, the Steve Miller Band, Jackson Browne, Bonnie Raitt, Dan Fogelberg, Bruce Springsteen, Linda Ronstadt, Led Zeppelin, Paul McCartney & Wings, The Doors, The Eagles, Little Feat, The Band, Willie Nelson, Edwin Starr, Janis Joplin, Guy Clark, The Byrds, Asleep At The Wheel, The Traveling Wilburys, Joan Baez, Mudcrutch, Loggins & Messina, Buffalo Springfield and more!

7:00 p.m. Joni Mitchell Live at Club 47, Cambridge, Massachusetts, January 10, 1968

We go all the way back to 1968 for this Joni Mitchell performance at Club 47 here in the Boston area. It would later be called Passim’s Coffee House. Under either name, it has historically been a great music venue. I remember being in Harvard Square during a snow storm and dropping in to warm up. That was the night I had the honor of seeing Guy Clark for the very first time ever and it was one of the most memorable musical experiences of my life. But I digress. Club 47 was an old haunt for Joni Mitchell, and tonight we play her 1968 performance there in celebration of her 79th birthday (November 7).

Join us here in The Mermaid Lounge for another great day of music. Programming notwithstanding, the majority of our musical day is on wide Open Stream under the supervision of The Music Mermaid. It doesn’t get any better than that. Oh, wait, yes it does. Did I mention that we are totally free? No strings. No surprises. Just music.

It’s Another Fine Tuesday Bluesday With Our ‘Best of Chicago Blues’ EP, Our AOW, and B. B. King In the Spotlight, November 8, 2022

Blues lovers, it is your day as we start it off with our ‘Best of Chicago Blues’ EP and close it out with B. B. King. In between, it’s our Album of The Week.

We are the House of Blues every Tuesday and here’s today’s lineup:

10:00 a.m. The Best of Chicago Blues: Various Artists

There’s nothing like Chicago for blues and this multi-artist EP brings you Otis Rush, Willie Dixon, Albert King, Muddy Waters, Little Water, Bo Diddley, Koko Taylor, Lowell Fulson, Howlin’ Wolf, Buddy Guy, Magic Slim, Sonny Boy Williamson, Son Seals, James Cotton, Paul Butterfield, Elmore James, Jimmy Reed, Otis Spann and more!

4:00 p.m. Album of The Week: Sweet Harmony by Maria Muldaur

Technically, this album fits just fine on a Tuesday Bluesday since Maria Muldaur refuses to be defined by any single genre of music and has successfully combined a bit of blues, jazz and folk in this fine album. See for yourself this afternoon.

7:00 p.m. In The Spotlight: The Music of B. B. King

B. B. King was a pioneer who defined the blues for a worldwide audience. As a guitar innovator, King developed an intricate style of blues solo playing based on fluid string bending, shimmering vibrato, and staccato picking with the help of the most important woman in his life, Lucille. This style would inspire future blues guitarists, and it’s here tonight at 7:00 p.m. EST.

It’s always a full house on Tuesday Bluesdays and we’ve got listeners from Greece, Italy, France, the UK, Norway, Denmark, The Netherlands, Portugal, Spain, Russian Federation, Faroe Islands, Australia, Texas, California and New York this morning. Join our international community!
