It’s a Petty Kind of Monday With the 30th Anniversary Concert and New ‘Live’ Mudcrutch Later. The Sun & Moon Make an Appearance Also on May 8, 2023

Good morning, musicologists! Today we celebrate Mr. Petty’s posthumous Doctorate of Music from the U of Florida bestowed last week. It’s a little ray of light in a fascist state. We were also going to have a Mudcrutch Monday today, so we get the best of both worlds.

Here’s your musical landscape:

11:00 a.m. Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers Live at The Stephen C. O’Connell Center, Gainesville, FL, September 21, 2006

This was the 30th Anniversary Tour performance in Petty’s hometown of Gainesville, and a fine performance it was. We air this today to celebrate the honorary Doctorate in Music given to him last week by the University of Florida, where the entire stadium still sings I Won’t Back Down during the Gators’ home games. I am not a football l over, but when I saw that for the first time after his death, it gave me goosebumps.

3:00 p.m. Under the Sun & Moon: Various Artists

Songs about the sun and moon from Cat Stevens, The Traveling Wilburys, The Beatles, Linda Ronstadt, Jimmy Cliff, Norah Jones, Nina Simone, The Rolling Stones, Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, Gordon Lightfoot, Rosanne Cash, The Wallflowers, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Shawn Colvin, Valerie Carter and more!

7:00 p.m. Mudcrutch Monday! The Best Performances From The 2016 Tour! NEW!

This is new to our station and it’s a great collection of their best performances from the 2016 tour. I knew their performance of Hungry No More from Boston’s House of Blues would be included. I kick myself to this day for missing this event.

We’ve got a great way to start your Monday today. If you’re lucky enough to have an office, shut the door and pull up a tab. If you’re home, tune us in. We’re on 24/7 and we’re totally free and totally free of commercial advertising. What’s not to love?
