Good Morning, Music Lovers! Well, we have a full day of wide Open Stream. No programming. All of this courtesy of The Music Mermaid. She’s minding the store today.

This is all you need to know. And this is where you need to go:
Good Morning, Reggae-ologists! We’re here in The Mermaid Lounge and we’re breaking out some great Reggae today to start off our musical programming. We’ve also got a series of new Trifectas debuting this afternoon!

Here’s Friday’s line-up:
The Maytals were formed in the early 60s in Jamaica, and became one of the best known ska and rocksteady vocal groups, playing a key role in popularizing the Reggae sound. We put them here In the Spotlight today.
We’ve got a set of four brand new Trifectas to help get you through the afternoon:
2:00 p.m. Fats Domino
3:00 p.m. Badfinger
4:00 p.m. Paul Revere & The Raiders
5:00 p.m. Jimi Hendrix
You know, I look forward to Peter Jackson’s Beatle documentary coming up this month. Did the Beatles fight? They did. All bands fight. They’re like a family. But if the Beatles hated each other they way it was played up in the media, they would not have been able to remain as great as they were to the bitter end. Later on, they worked out their issues. It was real life under a media microscope.
Tune us in, folks. We’re here for you 24/7 completely free-of-charge every single day. We don’t ask for your personal info or a credit card, and we do not play commercials. Ever.
Good Morning, Sixties Lovers! This is our day. We give you a great new Album of The Week and dust off our Original Sixties Rotation this afternoon. Read on!

Here’s today’s line-up:
There have been many players in the evolution of what has come to be known as country-rock. This 1969 release, the first from The Flying Burrito Brothers, continued the work of two of the most notable musicians in this process, Gram Parsons and Chris Hillman, both veterans of The Byrds (who were also players). These guys married country to other forms of popular music, like gospel, soul, and psychedelic rock, and it’s all on display here in this great new Album of The Week.
This one is due for an update soon, but it remains formidable as it is, as this first sixties EP focuses on early-to-mid music of the great generation. You’ll hear Sonny & Cher, The Monkees, Mary Wells, Dusty Springfield, Tommy James & The Shondells, The Drifters, Fats Domino, The Beatles, Gerry & The Pacemakers, Petula Clark, The Hollies, Buddy Holly, The Kinks, Neil Diamond, The Band, Bob Dylan, The Beach Boys, The Temptations, The Yardbirds, The Searchers, The Rolling Stones, Donovan, and more!
Sunday is a day of rest, so go ahead and take yourself some rest. Kick back and tune us in. We’ll keep you aurally pleased for hours here. In fact, 24/7 to be precise. At no cost whatsoever to you. Hey, what else could you ask for as we end Daylight Savings time here.
Good Morning, Music Lovers! We’re at midweek here and we’ve got a lot of Open Stream punctuated with some great programming starting at noon today. Read on for the details (because the devil is always in the details).

Here are the details:
Hey, nothing sexist about this particular playlist. Just some great songs with the words ladies, women, or girls in their titles or lyrics…or both. This is always a fun exercise for me. There’s a lot of, “Oh yeah, hey, I almost forgot that song!”
We’ve already got an album for this week, but it came to our attention yesterday that this great Heartbreakers album was released 39 years ago yesterday, giving us yet another opportunity to hear our House Band. This great album resulted in three singles, including the mighty You Got Lucky, in addition to Change of Heart and Straight Into Darkness.
We’re giving you an added bonus with this airing. At the end are two songs that were written and recorded for this album, but which were dropped. One is Turning Point, which appeared on the Playback album later. The other was one we never heard until after Tom Petty passed, called Keep A Little Soul. This one appeared on An American Treasure, released after his death. I love both of these songs and the beauty of having access to them is so that you can wonder how they were left off the original album, particularly Keep A Little Soul. At the end of the day, it matters not. These songs are here now and we get to experience them.
Great day to tune us in. Blah. Blah. Blah. We say the same shit every day in an attempt to entice you. We have no advertising budget because we collect no money. We need you and your ‘word of mouth’ to help us out. In the meantime: ENJOY.
Good Morning, Pettyologists! The month is coming to a close quickly and we’ve got just a couple of more things to squeeze in, one of them coming this evening. Read on!

Here’s your Friday line-up:
This is one of our favorites here. It started small and became an EP a little over a month ago. We’ve got some great music lined up over the afternoon hours coming from this excellent multi-artist long player.
We’ve got a tour where Petty and his mates were not necessarily the headliners, but that didn’t seem to matter to either them or the audience. This is where the seeds were planted for a great musical match and where Mike Campbell said that the band truly learned how to improvise on stage. He credited Dylan with that lesson. This is one of those “don’t miss” moments.
Come on, folks. What the hell are you waiting for? Your friends from around the planet are out there right now listening to us and you need to find a way to join them. Hey, this isn’t rocket science. It’s Internet radio.
Good Morning, Musicologists! The Music Mermaid has chosen an Open Stream day with Trifectas right up until our Album of The Week airing later.

Here’s today’s programming:
8:00 a.m. Aretha Franklin
9:00 a.m. Bob Marley & The Wailers
10:00 a.m. Steely Dan
11:00 a.m. Smokey Robinson & The Miracles
12:00 p.m. The Beatles
1:00 p.m. Lucinda Williams
2:00 p.m. Van Morrison
3:00 p.m. Sam Cooke
4:00 p.m. Canned Heat
5:00 p.m. Janis Joplin
6:00 p.m. Diana Ross & The Supremes
This is our next-to-last airing of this great Petty album, so get it while you can! Saturday will be the final airing before we move onto a new selection.
It’s Thursday. The end of the work week nears. This would be a most excellent day to tune us in. You can really get a feel for what we’re all about on an Open Stream day.
Welcome to Midweek, Music Lovers! Last evening we worked on an expanded house playlist and we think you’re going to love it! Stick around and see for yourself!

Here’s your mid-week line-up:
We spent some time on our house playlist and it definitely has that peace, love, understanding, social justice and revolution vibe. We’ve got a bunch of great artists including The Beatles, Country Joe & The Fish, CSNY, Bob Dylan, Joan Baez, Cat Stevens, James Brown, Sam Cooke, The Band, Woody Guthrie, Donovan, Creedence Clearwater Revival, John Lennon, Nina Simone, Peter, Paul & Mary, Jimmy Cliff, Bob Marley & The Wailers, Buffalo Springfield, Phil Ochs, the Jimi Hendrix Experience, and many more! It is now officially one of our EP’s and another upgrade is in the wind for down the road.
Undoubtedly one of the great British Invasion bands. We haven’t heard this one for a while, so it’s long overdue.
Before, in between and after we have wide Open Stream courtesy of The Music Mermaid. Sounds like a pretty good day to open those ears to something completely different in radio!
Happy Friday, Musicolgists. We have what we believe is a great end to the work week this week. We’ve got a brand new extended playlist and later on, Emmylou Harris saves The Ryman from extinction. Read on.

Here’s your Friday programming:
This one could have gone on for a few more hours…at least. In spite of what it sounds like, this isn’t a socio-political playlist. It’s simply songs with the word woman, lady or girl in the title and in the lyrics. In a collection of 27,000 songs, I can tell you there were plenty more that didn’t make this list. Yet. I didn’t want to get carried away. You’ll hear John Mayall, Van Morrison, The Smithereens, Linda Ronstadt, The Beach Boys, Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, Ray Charles, Elvis Presley, The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, The Hollies, Leon Russell, Joe Cocker, Peter & Gordon, America, The Doors, Electric Light Orchestra, Jackson Browne, The Boogaloo Swamis, and many more!
The full set list for the concert is under the Playlist tab on this blog. Just scroll to the bottom.
By the time Emmylou Harris brought her newly-formed band to the fabled Ryman Auditorium in 1991, it had been dormant for nearly twenty years. Once the home of The Grand Old Opry, it’s heyday was just a memory. The Opry had moved on to bigger and better digs. Emmylou Harris changed all that. Her concerts at the Ryman were — for lack of a better word — brilliant. They were so critically acclaimed that she literally saved The Ryman single handedly.
Following Emmylou’s shows, a renewed interest was sparked in The Ryman. The building was completely renovated and has become a world class concert hall. And in case you’re wondering who The Nash Ramblers are:
Sam Bush on fiddle, mandolin and vocals
Roy Huskey, Jr. on double bass and vocals
Larry Atamanuik on drums
Al Perkins on banjo, guitar, resonator guitar, and vocals
John Randall Stewart on guitar, mandolin, and vocals
Then, of course, there’s Emmylou Harris, an artist and musician who continually seeks to make a difference with her music.
By the way, the set list for this particular concert is also on this blog under the Playlist tab. Again, just scroll to the bottom.
I say this every single day, but it’s a great day to tune us in. Emmylou Harris’ Ryman concert makes it worth the effort alone. (I can’t say it’s worth the price of admission because there is NO price of admission here in The Mermaid Lounge.) So, what are you waiting for?
We’ve got ourselves a Wide Open Stream/Trifecta Thursday combination here to day in the Lounge, and later on we have our Album of The Week.

Here’s today’s line-up:
As with most of our programming, we have wide open stream all morning courtesy of The Music Mermaid who, as you well know, has impeccable taste in music.
12:00 p.m. Bonnie Raitt
1:00 p.m. Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers
2:00 p.m. The Grateful Dead
3:00 p.m. The Supremes
4:00 p.m. Donovan
5:00 p.m. Paul McCartney & Wings
6:00 p.m. Bob Marley & The Wailers
Back again with Neil Young’s 1972 masterpiece which spawned the hits Old Man and Heart of Gold (which went to number one). It also boasts some great complimentary singers in Linda Ronstadt, James Taylor, Graham Nash, David Crosby and Stephen Stills.
What more could you ask for? All of our Trifectas are brand new today, and we have more expansion planned down the road. Join your friends from the UK, Denmark, Italy, Israel, Japan, The Russian Federation, The Faroe Islands, Canada, France, and the great Pacific Northwest of the U.S. this morning and tune us in. We’re kicking off the new week with some Wide Open Stream courtesy of the Music Mermaid, a siren of impeccable musical taste.
