It’s Totally Tuesday Bluesday! As Willie Dixon says, “The blues are the roots; everything else is the fruits,” December 15, 2020

Here we are, Blues Lovers! We’ve got a total blues and blues rock day lined up for you today. It’s amazing when something like this just kind of comes together without much planning!

Johnny Winter. ‘Nuff said.

Here’s today’s Tuesday Bluesday line-up:

11:00 a.m. Johnny Winter Live at The Bottom Line, New York, September 5, 1978

Johnny Winter is an American blues singer and guitarist remembered mostly for his high-energy blues rock style and live performances throughout the sixties and seventies. He also produced three Grammy Award-winning albums for blues great Muddy Waters.

4:00 p.m. Album of The Week: Led Zeppelin IV by Led Zeppelin

Led Zeppelin has long been known for its hard-driving blues rock style, so it’s only fitting that the Album of the Week falls on Tuesday Bluesday!

7:00 p.m. Wynton Marsalis & Eric Clapton Play the Blues, Live at Lincoln Center, April 7-9, 2011

In 2011, blues guitarist Eric Clapton and jazz trumpeter Wynton Marsalis got together for a night of vintage blues. The songs were chosen by Clapton and arranged by Wynton Marsalis. They played with the orchestra from Jazz at Lincoln Center.

Just a reminder. We stream 24/7, schedule great programming, charge no money for any of it, and ask for no personal information. Did I miss anything? Oh, yeah, our DJ isn’t an incessant talker either.

Mid-Month Sundays Bring Our Sixties Rotation, and Led Zeppelin Owns the Album of The Week, December 13, 2020

It’s Sunday Funday here in The Mermaid Lounge. We’re mid-month, which puts one of my favorite playlists into the rotation!

Today it’s The Sixties Rotation, Volume One!

Here’s your Sunday Funday line-up:

12:00 p.m. Album of The Week: Led Zeppelin IV by Led Zeppelin NEW!

Led Zeppelin IV was released by Atlantic Records on November 8, 1971, and was a massive critical and commercial success, shipping 37 million copies worldwide. All of the songs were written by the band, with the exception of the Memphis Minnie blues song, When The Levee Breaks.

3:00 p.m. The Sixties Rotation, Volume 1: Various Artists UPDATED!

Last time around, we gave you Volume 2; this time it’s the original volume, updated for your listening pleasure. This is basically 5+ hours of sixties open stream, no interruptions, no advertising. You can hear The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, The Kinks, Petula Clark, Lulu, The Hollies, Marvin Gaye, The Temptations, Bobbie Gentry, Johnny Rivers, The Dave Clark Five, The Box Tops, Dusty Springfield, Mary Wells and many more!

This brings us up just about 8:00 p.m., when you’ll hear…more Open Stream. And that’s because we run 24/7 and our Streaming Mermaid is always on top of things. Get it together and join the rest of the planet at:

It’s Tuesday Bluesday With John Mayall, Mick Jagger & Jeff Beck; The Dirty Knobs Are Back With Our AOW, December 1, 2020

Good Morning, and welcome to December. The Shadow starts on Wednesday, but today we’ve got some Tuesday Bluesday music and Three-in-a Row’s lined up.

John Mayall is known as the Godfather of British Blues for a reason.

Here’s today’s line-up:

11:00 a.m. John Mayall & The Bluesbreakers Live at The BBC (1965-1967)

Today we’ve got all the Bluesbreakers recordings done for the BBC between 1965 and 1967. We are always on the hunt for new music. We’ve got places to go that I’m not even sure how we’ve found, but we’re back on the hunt for some authentic blues again. In the meantime, there’s a reason why John Mayall is known as the Godfather of British Blues. You’ll see.

3:00 p.m. Album of The Week: Wreckless Abandon by The Dirty Knobs

A great debut album worth the wait in the midst of this pestilence. It is in today’s pipeline and also now in our general rotation.

7:00 p.m. Mick Jagger & Jeff Beck Live at The Country Club, Reseda, CA, October 20, 1987

This is a short little soundboard interlude here with Mick Jagger and Jeff Beck. This was originally a session to record a promo; what ensues here is what happened in between takes, apparently. There is reportedly a longer version of this out there somewhere. I’m determined to find it. In the meantime, enjoy this one.

The rest of the day is Open Stream with some Three-in-a-Rows tossed in for good measure. Enjoy your day!

We’ve Got New Bonnie Raitt, The Summer of Love, Live Dead, and Our Album of The Week on Saturday, November 28, 2020

It’s Saturday, and that means it’s like Grand Central Station for music lovers! We’ve got some great stuff today, but guess what? It’s still only a total of eight hours of programming in a 24-hour play cycle.

Bonnie Raitt. Great Fucking Voice. Badass Guitarist. Legend.

Here’s today’s line-up!

11:00 a.m. The Summer of Love, Volume One: Various Artists

Undoubtedly my time here. This was a time in music history when so many really good sounds were made. And they didn’t all sound the fucking same, or come out of the magic box.

This playlist features Petula Clark, The Rolling Stones, The Beatles, The Yardbirds, The Spencer Davis Group, The Box Tops, The Lovin’ Spoonful, Marvin Gaye, Van Morrison, The Doors and many more!

3:00 p.m. Album of The Week: Homecoming by America

One of America’s finest albums has its final airing today. Tomorrow when you wake up, there will be a new album posted on the blog.

7:00 p.m. Bonnie Raitt In-Studio Concert: The Wonderland Tape, August 5, 1977 NEW!

Bonnie Raitt live in-studio in August of 1977, one month after the release of her Sweet Forgiveness album — her sixth album and the one that put her on the map (although, it should have happened much earlier). It also provided her first commercial hit, Runaway, the excellent bluesy remake of Del Shannon’s classic.

10:00 p.m. Live Dead! The Grateful Dead Live at Onondega County War Memorial, New York, September 28, 1976 (aka, Dick’s Picks, Vol. 20) NEW!

Yet another live classic from the world’s preeminent jam band. Even if we repeated a concert or a hundred, you’d never know. They never sound the same and you always hear something new. (BTW, there is no Grateful Dead without Jerry Garcia.)

Tune in. Turn on. Drop out. That’s the order of the day. So, just do it.

It’s Tuesday Bluesday With B.B. King & Friends, Eric Clapton in Tokyo & Our Album of The Week, November 24, 2020

Good Morning, Music Lovers! What am I thankful for this week? This radio station. Life is too fucking short to listen to bad music and advertising.

Clapton is live in Tokyo this evening with another guitar god named Mark Knopfler!

Here’s today’s Tuesday Bluesday line-up!

11:00 a.m. B.B. King & Friends: A Night of Blistering Blues! NEW!

Join B.B. King with his friends Stevie Ray Vaughan, Eric Clapton, Etta James, Gladys Knight, Chaka Khan, Paul Butterfield and others!

The playlist is indeed up. Just go to the Playlist tab on this blog and scroll to the bottom!

3:00 p.m. Album of The Week: Homecoming by America

It ain’t the blues, but it is our Album of The Week and it shall be played no matter what else is going on. In fact, many of the songs on this album defy labels. That’s what makes it so great.

7:00 p.m. Eric Clapton & His Band Live From The Tokyo Dome, Japan, November 2, 1988 NEW!

Like B.B. King, Eric Clapton invited a couple of friends in Mark Knopfler and Allan Clarke, vocalist for The Hollies. A splendid time was had by all.

Come on, people. Get your musical shit together. No, we don’t offer “on demand” musicl That’s not what we’re all about. We’d have to charge for that service, and we’re not doing that. This is radio the way it used to be.

It’s a Big-Time Tuesday Bluesday With Our AOW Later, November 17, 2020

Here we are again on another Tuesday Bluesday in The Mermaid Lounge, and we’ve really done up the blues playlist we built for Blues Week. You get to hear it in its expanded form today.

We’ve got just over four hours of open stream blues today.

Here’s today’s line-up:

11:00 a.m. Something Old, Something New, Something Borrowed, and Something Blues NEW EXPANDED PLAYLIST!

We put this list together for the first time for Blues Week in September. We have since expanded it to just over four uninterrupted hours of open stream blues with James Cotton, Eric Clapton, B.B. King, Bonnie Raitt, Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, Paul Butterfield, J.J. Cale, The Allman Brothers Band, and many more!

5:00 p.m. Album of The Week: The Main Refrain by Wendy Waldman

If you don’t know Wendy Waldman by now, this would be an excellent time to get to know her.

Speaking of getting to know others, this would be an excellent day to get to know us. Actually, every day is. We’re not kidding here. We’re totally free. No advertising. No chatter. No bullshit. No personal information. No credit card required.

It’s Mudcrutch Monday and We Have Live Janis Later On, November 16, 2020

Good Morning, Gang! It’s another Monday from The Mermaid Lounge, and we intend to make it count today.

I just love this photo. No significance here other than the fact that it’s Mudcrutch and The Shelters (whom Tom Petty was mentoring) and it was sold out.

Here’s today’s line-up:

11:00 a.m. Mudcrutch Madness! The Complete Catalogue.

All the Mudcrutch that you can possibly play (except for live bootlegs which will be coming). Did you know that Don’t Do Me Like That was originally a Mudcrutch song? We’ve also got the definitive live version here of Hungry No More, recorded at Boston’s House of Blues in 2016.

Afternoon Open Stream with Three-in-a-Row

Whatever the stream collects as it flows is what we’ll be playing for the afternoon. Listen for some 3’s from Lucinda Williams, Bob Dylan, and Steely Dan.

6:00 p.m. Janis Joplin Live at The Fillmore East, New York, February 12, 1969

We’ve got some live Janis going here, and that is always a treat for sure.

This is the day to tune us in. Every day is the day to tune us in. Ask the folks in Lithuania. They love us.

The debut album is our Album of the Week. It was released 44 years ago yesterday. And the rest, as they say, is history.

7:00 p.m. In The Spotlight: The Music of B.B. King

The final blues programming of the day belongs to the Blues King and his girl, Lucille. It’s only fitting.

By the way, did I mention those Tuesday Bluesday Three-in-a-Rows? You should tune us in. Today, you’ll hear Stevie Ray Vaughan, Eric Clapton, The Allman Brothers Band and Lucinda Williams. What the hell are you wating for?

It’s Absolutely The Animals, Open Stream Afternoon, and Jakob Dylan With & Without The Wallflowers Later, Monday, November 9, 2020

It’s another Monday in Paradise, Music Lovers! I know. I hate Mondays too, but if you have an extra tab and pull us up, we guarantee you a great day, at least musically.

Jakob Dylan is In The Spotlight, with & without his band, The Wallflowers.

Here’s Monday’s line-up from The Mermaid Lounge:

11:00 a.m. Deb’s Stream: Absolutely The Animals!

The Animals always had that gritty, bluesey sound. The band was formed in the early sixties in Newcastle upon Tyne. They moved to London in 1964. One of my favorite singers of all time was their frontman, Eric Burdon. This is a great playlist.

Afternoon Open Stream Monday

We stream 26,000+ songs all afternoon with some great Three-in-a-Row’s tossed in. You’ll hear Emmylou Harris, The Byrds The Rolling Stones and Wilson Pickett, among others.

6:00 p.m. In The Spotlight: Jakob Dylan & The Wallflowers

Jakob Dylan is an American singer-songwriter who also happens to be Bob Dylan’s son. He’s best known as the lead singer and primary songwriter for The Wallflowers, a band he formed in 1989. Prior to that he had a solo career, and was in some indie bands. You’ll love his stuff, people.

It’s Monday. What better day to tune us in? Come on. You know you want to, and there’s no need to debate. We’re free. There’s no advertising. And there’s no need to give us personal information. We don’t ask for any.

Welcome to Tuesday Bluesday! Hear Our Blues Playlist, Our Album of The Week, and Winwood & Clapton Live Later, November 3, 2020

You won’t get any election updates from us. You’ll only hear music. Because here at #BecomeUngovernable Radio, we know what the only path is. In the meantime, we’ve got great music.

The House of Blues, New Orleans. One of my favorite places.

Here’s your Tuesday Bluesday line-up!

11:00 a.m. Something Old, New, Borrowed, Blues: Various Artists

The playlist created for Blues Week (September 2020) is now a permanent fixture here, and is actually being expanded for Open Stream days. You will hear Eric Clapton, B.B. King, Delbert McClinton, Little Walter, Slim Harpo, The Robert Cray Band, James Cotton, Koko Taylor, Long John Baldry, John Lee Hooker, Canned Heat and many more!

3:00 p.m. Album of The Week: Sweet Baby James by James Taylor

I remember seeing JT live several times, once was out at Tanglewood in the Berkshires of Massachusetts. When he sang

Now the first of December was covered with snow
So was the turnpike from Stockbridge to Boston
The Berkshires seemed dream-like on account of that frosting
With ten miles behind me and ten thousand more to go…

Lyrics from Sweet Baby James

the crowd went insane. I have hundreds of musical memories like that. Thankfully.

7:00 p.m. Steve Winwood & Eric Clapton at Madison Square Garden, New York

Two musical legends recorded live at Madison Square Garden during their performances in February of 2008.

Anyway. I have no idea what you’re waiting for, but hey, we’ve got time. I think. Hehehe.
