Good Morning, Music Lovers across the planet! Here we are at another midweek. We have a lot of wide open stream today, but we have some great programming as well!

Today we have a brand new Spotlight, featuring The Neville Brothers

Here’s Wednesday’s line-up:

11:00 a.m. In The Spotlight: The Music of The Neville Brothers NEW!

This one has been on my list for a quite a long time and it’s finally here. I got to see these guys just one time during one of my business trips to New Orleans. They were live at Tipitinas, a great venue, by the way. Today we have them as a band, some of them solo, and we also have The Meters. Art Neville was the founder of both The Neville Brothers and The Meters. They are truly a magical, musical family.

7:00 p.m. Badass Guitarists, Volume One: Various Artists

Here we have some of the handiwork of some of music’s greatest on guitar. You’ll hear Dickie Betts, Eric Clapton, George Harrison, Jeff Beck, Keith Richards, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Bonnie Raitt, Jimmy Page, Lowell George, Paul Barriere, Jimi Hendrix, Walter Becker, Mike Campbell, Joe Perry and more.

We’ll have Volume Two on Friday of this week, and we’re putting together Volume Three right now. So, if we’ve missed anyone, we’ll rectify that.

Once again, please give us a shot. We’re all about the music because this is a labor of love. We make no profit whatsoever. That is definitely not why we’re here.

We Welcome A New Month With Our Original Sixties Rotation, and Jackson Browne Owns Our Album of The Week, Sunday, August 1, 2021

Here we are starting another month together here in The Mermaid Lounge, and we have our very first long-player ever created up today featuring the music that inspired this station. We also have our brand new Album of The Week.

We have two Sixties Rotations; today we offer the Original Sixties Rotation.

Here’s today’s line-up:

11:00 a.m. Album of The Week: Downhill From Everywhere by Jackson Browne NEW!

Great rockers never really die, and neither do great singer-songwriters. And Jackson Browne is one of the elites in my book. In every article I read, the album is being described as a boomer faces his own mortality, and it may well be that because Jackson Browne has always been introspective. Do I think it’s his best? No. Do I think it’s a great album? I do. Especially since I sometimes too find myself confronting my own mortality.

3:00 p.m. The Original Sixties Rotation: Various Artists

This is due for an update, but it’s pretty damned serviceable as it is. We have two sixties rotations because we have so much sixties music. This is more geared toward the earlier part of the sixties. Since this is the first of the two we put together, we can it The Original Sixties Rotation. It is indeed the music that inspired me to start this station and share my record collection with you. More than five hours of sixties music uninterrupted begins at mid-day.

You’ll hear Gerry & The Pacemakers, The Beatles. The Rolling Stones, The Kinks, Them, The Hollies, Petula Clark, The Searchers, Little Eva, The Turtles, The Grateful Dead, Barry McGuire, Buddy Hollie, Johnny Rivers, Bobbie Gentry, The Dave Clark Five, The Supremes, Bob Dylan, and many more.

Sunday is a day of rest. Unless, of course, you’re caught up in that retail nonsense where you have to shop all seven days of the week to support the capitalist state. Remember, the product we offer is FREE. We do not require a subscription, ask for a credit card number or seek your personal information. Just sayin’

7:00 p.m. Album of The Week: Standing In The Doorway by Chrissie Hynde FINAL AIRING!

If you haven’t heard this masterpiece yet, this is your last chance to hear it here. Chrissie Hynde delivers what we consider to be the album of the year with her covers of lesser-known, underappreciated Bob Dylan songs. She did this during lockdown using cell phone technology. Not to be missed.

Mid-Week Brings a Great, New Multi-Artist Extended Playlist, and That Sweet Soul Sound, Wednesday, July 28, 2021

Good Morning, Music Lovers! We’re at mid-week and we’ve got a brand new multi-artist long player for you today, along with that sweet soul sound later on.

Check out our brand new Water, Water Everywhere playlist starting at 11:00 a.m.!

Here’s your mid-week line-up:

11:00 a.m. Water, Water Everywhere: Various Artists NEW!

Did you know that the earth is about 71% water, and that 97% of that water is found in the oceans? That means only 3% is drinking water. Now that I’ve filled you with scientific information, let’s talk about our latest extended playlist.

We opened this playlist up to suggestions a while ago, but hadn’t gotten to it until just recently. The emails were out of control, but the suggestions were so great that we made ourselves a great multi-artist playlist all about water. You’ll hear The Beatles, Deep Purple, Donovan. Led Zeppelin, Linda Ronstadt, Carole King, Jackson Browne, Foo Fighters, Loggins & Messina, Al Green, Creedence Clearwater Revival, The Grateful Dead, Neil Young, Elton John, and more!

In fact, you can check out this great new playlist under the ‘Playlist’ tab of this blog before listening. Just go to the tab and scroll to the bottom.

7:00 p.m. That Sweet Soul Sound: Various Artists

This is one of our mainstays here in The Mermaid Lounge. Another multi-artist playlist that’s been around for a while, it features Aretha Franklin, Otis Redding, Marvin Gaye, Roberta Flack, Gladys Knight & The Pips, Fats Domino, Jackie Wilson, The Four Tops, Curtis Mayfield, Etta James, Bill Withers, The Temptations, Ann Peebles, and more!

Another Monday Rolls Around and We Have Tom Rush In the Spotlight, Bob Dylan’s 30th Anniversary Celebration, and One More Airing of Highway Companion, July 26, 2021

Good Morning, Music Lovers! The cycle continues with another Monday here in The Mermaid Lounge. We’ve got some great programming to kick off the week.

We’ve got Dylan’s 30th Anniversary Celebration coming up later!

Here’s your Monday line-up:

11:00 a.m. In the Spotlight: The Music of Tom Rush

We haven’t aired this one for a while. It seems like a good time to me. Tom Rush is a local boy ’round these parts, born in Portsmouth, New Hampshire. He has made some excellent music over his long and storied career, and has launched many a singer-songwriter to fame and fortune.

3:00 p.m. Not the Album of The Week: Highway Companion by Tom Petty FINAL AIRING!

Yesterday was the actual release date fifteen years ago for Petty’s third and final solo album. We were pretty busy yesterday, so we thought we’d air it one final time today.

7:00 p.m. Bob Dylan & Friends: The 30th Anniversary Celebration

I was pretty much inspired by Chrissie Hynde’s Dylan’s covers album that is this week’s Album of The Week. The songs covered here are more of the well-known variety, but Dylan’s friend list is vast and this is a great concert with Tom Petty, Neil Young, Eric Clapton, Chrissie Hynde, Roger McGuinn and many, many others. Not to be missed.

Again, let me implore you to tune us in. We’re on 24/7, uninterrupted by capitalist entreaties to purchase products you do not need. We don’t ask for your credit card or your personal information. There’s absolutely no subscription requirement. What more could you ask for?

It’s Sunday Funday! Not Only Do You Get Folk Music From A-To-Z, But We Have An Outstanding Album of The Week, July 25, 2021

Good Morning, Music Lovers! It’s another Sunday here in The Mermaid Lounge, and that can only mean good things. Not only do we have our extended-play ‘Folk Music From A-To-Z’ playlist, but we have a most excellent Album of The Week.

Chrissie Hynde makes no bones about how much Bob Dylan has meant to her, and now she delivers!

Here’s today’s line-up:

11:00 a.m. Album of The Week: Standing in The Doorway, Chrissie Hynde Sings Bob Dylan NEW!

I don’t care who you are or where you are: There’s no denying Bob Dylan’s influence in the music world. Described as “the reigning queen of cool,” Chrissie Hynde makes no bones about how much Bob Dylan’s music has meant to her. She delivers a masterpiece of Bob Dylan songs recorded using cell phone technology during the pandemic lockdown here.

But you won’t find the usual Dylan classics here. Instead you’ll find nine songs that can be considered ‘overlooked’ Dylan songs, including the title track. While Van Morrison and Eric Clapton spent their time whining (and it hasn’t stopped yet either), Chrissie Hynde decided to do something nobody has ever done before.

This is our album of the week. This could easily be the Album of The Year. Don’t miss it.

3:00 p.m. Folk Music From A-To-Z: Various Artists

Here’s an extended playlist where you’ll find Dylan himself. A “history” of folk music of sorts. The songs include those of Woody Guthrie, Pete Seeger, Odetta, Lead Belly, Doc Watson, Tom Rush, Joan Baez, Judy Collins, Phil Ochs, Cat Stevens, Emmylou Harris, Tom Petty, Linda Ronstadt, The McGarrigle Sisters, John Prine, Bonnie Raitt, The Band, Arlo Guthrie, and more!

There’s no denying it: It’s Sunday and a day of rest. It’s a great day to tune us in and find out what we’re all about. It’s pretty simple 24/7 music uninterrupted by advertising and mouthy DJ’s, free of charge all the time, and no credit card or personal information ever requested. Ever.

The Final Airing of McCartney’s CHOBA B CCCP, LIVE DEAD Later, and The British Are Coming! Saturday, July 24, 2021

Good Morning, Musicologists! We’ve got our usual busy Saturday today, but we’re doubling up on extended plays this month due to the Fillmore Fest at the beginning. Nevertheless, it’s a great day of music.

Later tonight, it’s The Dead live at the University of Alabama, Tuscaloosa!

Here’s today’s line-up (please note times are a bit different today):

10:00 a.m. Album of The Week: CHOBA B CCCP by Paul McCartney FINAL AIRING!

Today we’ve got the final airing of this great album by McCartney. Tomorrow when you tune us in, we’ll have another great new selection.

2:00 p.m. The British Are Coming: Various Artists

This is a great multi-artist playlist that runs for about five hours uninterrupted, paying homage to the music of The British Invasion and beyond. You’ll hear The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, The Searchers, The Who, Cilla Black, Petula Clark, Gerry & The Pacemakers, Them, The Dave Clark Five, The Electric Light Orchestra, The Moody Blues, Pink Floyd, Queen, Herman’s Hermits, Peter & Gordon, The Zombies, and many more!

10:00 p.m. LIVE DEAD! The Grateful Dead Live at Memorial Coliseum, The University of Alabama, Tuscaloosa NEW!

Another outstanding live performance by the world’s ultimate jam band, this one from the University of Alabama.

As always, Saturday is a great day to tune us in. Be there or be square, as they say. It won’t cost you a penny because, yes, there is still great free music out there.

We’re At Mid-Week With Minimalist Programming, Except for The Pretenders and the #BecomeUngovernable House Playlist, Wednesday, July 21, 2021

Good Morning, Music Lovers! We’ve got a wide Open Stream for most of the day today except for The Pretenders and our house playlist.

We put Chrissie Hynde & The Pretenders in the spotlight today

Here’s today’s line-up:

11:00 a.m. In The Spotlight: The Music of The Pretenders

We’ve got one of my favorite women rockers here, who also happens to be the leader of a great band. Chrissie Hynde remains underrated, except here in The Mermaid Lounge. She just released an album of Bob Dylan covers that’ll knock your socks off. We’ll be featuring that as our upcoming Album of The Week.

7:00 p.m. The #BecomeUngovernable House Playlist: Various Artists

Here we have some of the music that inspired us to start this station back in 2017. It features The Beatles, Barry McGuire, The Chambers Brothers, Arlo Guthrie, Edwin Starr, Buffalo Springfield, The Byrds, The Who, Ten Years After, and many more!

In between all of this, we’ve got wide Open Stream delivered by The Music Mermaid. We’re uninterrupted by commercials, don’t employ mouthy DJ’s, and we’re totally free. What more could you ask for?
