The “Court & Spark” Finale, A Trip to Laurel Canyon, and ‘Live’ Heartbreakers on Saturday, March 16, 2024

Good morning, weekenders! We have made it to Saturday once again, and we’ve got some great stuff on tap, including The Heartbreakers 30th Anniversary Tour from Gainsville.

Here’s your Saturday lineup:

9:00 a.m. Album of The Week: Court & Spark by Joni Mitchell FINAL AIRING!

Today we give you the final airing of this unbelievably amazing album, one of the best albums of all time, as we continue on the 50th anniversary roundup.

12:00 p.m. Music From Laurel Canyon: Various Artists

We’ve got an update on tap for this great playlist that covers two generations of musicians who lived and made music together in Laurel Canyon. It was the cross-fertilization of styles that helped usher in country-rock. You’ll hear The Byrds, The Mamas & The Papas, The Doors, The Lovin’ Spoonful, Jackson Browne, Joni Mitchell, The Monkees, CSNY, Manassas, John Mayall, The Eagles, J.D. Souther, Harry Nilsson, Canned Heat, Linda Ronstadt, Carole King, James Taylor, Joan Baez, Judy Collins, The Souther-Hillman-Furay Band and more!

8:00 p.m. Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers Live From the Stephen C. O’Connell Center, Gainesville, FL, September 21, 2006

The photo on this post is from an earlier timeframe, but the energy The Heartbreakers brought to their live performances never changed over their amazing 40-year run. This would be the band’s 30th Anniversary Tour from their hometown, and it was a beauty.

Wake up and tune us in. We’re on 24/7; not just when we have programming. We’re continually circulating 27,000 songs daily. You never know what’s coming next, and that’s what we really like about radio. Those were the days. We didn’t have custom playlists, Spotify, or whatever else pay-for-play hell is out there. We had our transistor radios and endless summer days waiting for the next song to cue up.

It’s a Petty Kind of Monday With the 30th Anniversary Concert and New ‘Live’ Mudcrutch Later. The Sun & Moon Make an Appearance Also on May 8, 2023

Good morning, musicologists! Today we celebrate Mr. Petty’s posthumous Doctorate of Music from the U of Florida bestowed last week. It’s a little ray of light in a fascist state. We were also going to have a Mudcrutch Monday today, so we get the best of both worlds.

Here’s your musical landscape:

11:00 a.m. Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers Live at The Stephen C. O’Connell Center, Gainesville, FL, September 21, 2006

This was the 30th Anniversary Tour performance in Petty’s hometown of Gainesville, and a fine performance it was. We air this today to celebrate the honorary Doctorate in Music given to him last week by the University of Florida, where the entire stadium still sings I Won’t Back Down during the Gators’ home games. I am not a football l over, but when I saw that for the first time after his death, it gave me goosebumps.

3:00 p.m. Under the Sun & Moon: Various Artists

Songs about the sun and moon from Cat Stevens, The Traveling Wilburys, The Beatles, Linda Ronstadt, Jimmy Cliff, Norah Jones, Nina Simone, The Rolling Stones, Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, Gordon Lightfoot, Rosanne Cash, The Wallflowers, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Shawn Colvin, Valerie Carter and more!

7:00 p.m. Mudcrutch Monday! The Best Performances From The 2016 Tour! NEW!

This is new to our station and it’s a great collection of their best performances from the 2016 tour. I knew their performance of Hungry No More from Boston’s House of Blues would be included. I kick myself to this day for missing this event.

We’ve got a great way to start your Monday today. If you’re lucky enough to have an office, shut the door and pull up a tab. If you’re home, tune us in. We’re on 24/7 and we’re totally free and totally free of commercial advertising. What’s not to love?

The Heartbreakers Are Back, Steve Winwood is In The Spotlight, and Valerie Carter Sings Our Album of The Week, Thursday, October 7, 2021

Good Morning, Petty Lovers! We’re back celebrating Tom Petty’s life today with a really excellent outing from the 30th Anniversary Tour in 2006.

Tom Petty performs at The Heartbreakers’ 30th Anniversary Concert in Gainesville, September 21, 2006

Here’s today’s line-up:

11:00 a.m. Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers Live at The Stephen C. O’Connell Center, Gainesville, Florida, September 21, 2006

This was a great outing all around as The Heartbreakers played their hometown on the 30th Anniversary Tour, replete with a visit from Stevie Nicks. We know you’ll enjoy this one.

3:00 p.m. Album of The Week: Just A Stones Throw Away by Valerie Carter

Sadly, we’re winding down on this week’s selection. This is our second to last airing, with the final being sometime on Saturday. Get it while you can. This is a great album, and Valerie Carter is a great singer-songwriter.

7:00 p.m. In The Spotlight: The Music of Steve Winwood

Steve Winwood has given us so much great music over the years. This Spotlight feature covers his time with The Spencer Davis Group, Blind Faith, Traffic, and his solo career. You’ll hear a song titled Valerie in this set which is, oddly enough, said to be about the late, great Valerie Carter (see above). I saw him live at Great Woods (not when it was The Tweeter Center or The Comcast Center), and it was one of the best live shows I’ve ever seen.

Join us today and celebrate Tom Petty Month with us. You won’t regret it. This is just one of the live performances you’ll hear this month, and it is one of the best shows The Heartbreakers have ever done.
