Good morning, music lovers. It’s the weekend and it’s a Sunday, so we keep it simple here on this official day of rest with Alison Krauss & Union Station’s Album of The Week and our newest multi-artist EP called ‘Friends of Mine.’

11:00 a.m. Album of The Week: Lonely Runs Both Ways by Alison Krauss & Union Station NEW!

This great mostly bluegrass band dominated in the early 2000’s behind the amazing voice of Alison Krauss. This was their twelfth album release (November 23, 2004) and won the band three Grammys in 2006. The song A Living Prayer was also honored with the award for Bluegrass Recorded Song of the Year from the Gospel Music Association. Krauss has established herself as one of the most influential artists in bluegrass music and is also one hell of a fiddler.

3:00 p.m. Friends of Mine: Various Artists

This is the newest EP and it’s all about friends, good and bad. We’ve all had experience there, right? Lucinda is definitely a Lounge favorite, and this is one of our favorite albums as well. Tom Petty recognized her greatness long ago. She was opening for one of his early tours and he went out onto the stage and told the crowd that they must pay attention to her. He recognized her songwriting and storytelling greatness. She became a fixture on his tours right up until the end. Give a listen.

3:00 p.m. The Best of Reggae and Ska: Various Artists

We haven’t heard this one for a while and this seemed like a great day to hear Prince Buster, Bob Marley & The Wailers, Judy Mowatt, Bunny Wailer, Jimmy Cliff, Basil Gabbidon, Peter Tosh, The Rhythm Aces, Derrick Morgan, Laurel Aitken, Count Lasher, the Jiving Juniors, Marcia Griffiths, Rita Marley, Desmond Dekker, The I-Threes and more!

Another trip down Reggae Road here with Desmond Dekker, a Jamaican Reggae, Ska and Rocksteady singer-songwriter and musician. Together with his backing band, The Aces, he had one of the first international reggae hits with his song Israelites. I remember hearing that song on the radio over and over and I loved it. But I didn’t really have a total appreciation for Reggae then as I do now.

10:00 p.m. LIVE DEAD! The Grateful Dead Live at Boston Garden, Boston, MA, May 12, 1980 NEW!

Another great concert from a great jam band. This one comes from my hometown back in 1980. We’ve had a few from Boston, but not from 1980 yet. Tonight, we’ve got that one too.

Well, once again, allow me to tell you that it would be a great day to spend with us here in The Mermaid Lounge if you can spare some time. It won’t take long for you to get hooked. Trust me. We’re not about charging money so you can build Internet playlists. If you want to do that, you can go pay Spotify. We’re all about being radio.
