Friday We’ve Got ‘Drivin’ Songs’, a Tim Hardin Spotlight, and Brand New Live Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, August 2, 2024

Good morning, musicologists and welcome to the cusp of the weekend here in The Mermaid Lounge. We’ve got a pretty cool lineup here for you today, starting with a dose of driving songs.

Here’s your Friday lineup:

10:00 a.m. Drivin’ Songs: Various Artists

Not merely songs about being in a car or driving somewhere, but songs that give you lead foot. There are many. Radar Love by Golden Earring comes to mind, and that’s just one of the songs you’ll hear in this great multi-artist playlist.

4:00 p.m. In The Spotlight: The Music of Tim Hardin

Tim Hardin’s heroin addiction kept him from greatness, yet he remains one of the most consequential artists of the folk movement in America. Today we put him In the Spotlight.

This is our first-ever live performance by this enduring band that has graced the musical airwaves for more than half a century now. In this particular show, they bring along special guests Bruce Hornsby and Michael Martin Murphy.

Monday Rolls Around Again and We’ve Got Some ‘Live’ Guess Who, Jackson Browne In the Spotlight, and Some ‘Drivin’ Songs’ Later On, June 13, 2022

Here we are again from The Mermaid Lounge on another back-to-work day. If you’re working where you can listen in, just pull up a tab and make your day so much brighter right here.

It’s a ‘first’ here in The Mermaid Lounge as we kick off today’s programming with some ‘live’ Guess Who!

Here’s your back-to-work lineup:

11:00 a.m. The Guess Who Live at The Ambassador Theater, St. Louis, MO, May 6, 1974 NEW!

The Guess Who is, without a doubt, a fantastic band. We’ve got some of their stuff in our rotation, but we’re on the hunt for all of it. That’s where we found this gem. As we expand our horizons for the summer, we’re kicking off the day with this live performance which was broadcast on KSHE 95FM.

3:00 p.m. In The Spotlight: The Music of Jackson Browne

It’s time to put Jackson Browne back In the Spotlight. It has been a while. Every time we hear this playlist we’re reminded why he’s considered one of the greatest song writers of all time.

7:00 p.m. Drivin’ Songs: Various Artists

And then, we close out the night with songs about driving. But it doesn’t stop there. Some of these songs may not actually be about driving, but they help you go just a little bit faster than you were originally planning. Hey, that’s why they’re driving songs. You’ll be riding with The Doobie Brothers, Tom Petty, Creedence Clearwater Revival, The Beatles, The Grateful Dead, The Eagles, Emmylou Harris, Van Morrison, Chuck Berry, Bob Dylan, Gladys Knight & The Pips, Golden Earring, CSNY, Linda Ronstadt, Willie Nelson, The Kinks, The Byrds, The Moody Blues, Deep Purple, Rare Earth, Canned Heat, Bruce Springsteen and more!

Start your Monday with a little boost from The Music Mermaid here in the Lounge. We’ve got several new playlists to unveil this week, and we start today! We’re on 24/7 totally free of commercial advertising and at absolutely no cost to you. What’s not to love?

Today We Have New ‘Live’ Neil Young, Jakob Dylan In the Spotlight, and Drivin’ Songs, Monday, April 12, 2021

Good Morning, today we have some brand new ‘live’ Neil Young for you to start off the week. We’re sure you’ll like this performance with The International Harvesters.

Neil Young practicing with The International Harvesters in the Harvest Barn.

Here’s Monday’s line-up:

11:00 a.m. Neil Young & The International Harvesters Live at Austin City Limits, September 25, 1984 NEW!

Neil Young has been around the horn and he’s played with many great bands, Crazy Horse, Lukas Nelson & Promise of The Real, but this is one we dug up out of the archives. Cannot even remember where I found this, but we’re sure you’ll like his performance with The International Harvesters.

3:00 p.m. In The Spotlight: Jakob Dylan & The Wallflowers

This playlist is actually Jakob Dylan with and without The Wallflowers, to be precise. But it’s good to know that they have just announced a new album together, the first in nine years. Bob’s boy, as you might guess, is no slouch.

7:00 p.m. Deb’s Stream! Drivin’ Songs: Various Artists

This is another of our various artist playlists we haven’t aired for a while. Tune in for The Doobie Brothers, Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, The Grateful Dead, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Van Morrison, Emmylou Harris, Golden Earring, Linda Ronstadt, Mudcrutch, Rare Earth, Bruce Springsteen, The Moody Blues, Deep Purple, The Beatles, and more! It’s a great way to close out the day’s programming.

We’re free. Not for profit. Non-intrusive. And we’ve got some of the greatest music on the planet continually in play 24/7. What more could you want? Except for the link, which is below.
