Johnny Rivers in The Spotlight, James Brown Live at The House of Blues, and Our New Album of the Week on Sunday, May 24, 2020

Good Morning, Ungovernables! Welcome to a fine Sunday. Rumor has it that it’ll be about sixty here and sunny. We’ll take that. We’ve got some great stuff on tap today!

Here’s your Sunday Funday line-up:

12:00 p.m.   Album of The Week: On The Border, The Eagles   NEW!

On The Border is the third studio album by The Eagles. On this album, they wanted to go for more of a rock feel, as opposed to their usual country rock offerings. They added Don Felder for this purpose. Some critics panned the album, but I never listen to music critics anyway (just like I don’t listen to sports radio). This is one of my favorite albums of all time.

The stand-out song for me is My Man, written by Bernie Leadon for the late, great Gram Parsons, who died of a drug overdose in September of 1973. Both Leadon and Parsons were in pioneering country-rock band The Flying Burrito Brothers together.

4:00 p.m.    In the Spotlight: The Music of Johnny Rivers

Talk about an underrated performer! This guy just made so much flat-out great music, and had fun doing it. We all had fun listening to Secret Agent Man, Memphis, and Summer Rain laying around with the famed transistor radio in the heat of the summer.

7:00 p.m.   James Brown Live at The House of  Blues!

The hardest working man in show biz is back!

Come and spend your Sunday with us. You won’t be sorry you did!

He is singer, songwriter, guitarist and pianist. In his short life, Gram was not only a soloist, but sang and played with Emmylou Harris, The International Submarine Band, The Byrds, and The Flying Burrito Brothers.

5:00 p.m.    Album of the Week: Sargeant Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band, The Beatles

This is the final airing of our Album of the Week. Tomorrow when you wake up, there will be a new selection on the blog!

10:00 p.m.  Live Dead: The Grateful Dead Live at The Capitol Theater (11-8-70)  NEW!

This is a special treat! The Grateful Dead with New Riders of the Purple Sage in a 4-hour music extravaganza! A not-to-be-missed event!

What the hell are you all waiting for? Tune us in. We’re not only free to listen to, but we’re free of commercials.

It’s Open Stream Day, and Let’s Celebrate Gram Parsons’ Birthday, Tuesday, November 5, 2019

Good Morning, Ungovernables! We have an open stream day today with the exception of Gram Parsons turn in the spotlight as we celebrate his life.

This is our only planned program for today:

2:00 p.m.     In the Spotlight: The Music of Gram Parsons

Gram Parsons died at the age of 26. By that time he’d had a solo career, had been part of The Byrds, and a member of the Flying Burrito Brothers. He had also heard Emmylou Harris sing and had found an immediate connection. Ultimately, it was Parsons who brought her to the forefront.

Today, Gram Parsons is rightly considered a pioneer in country rock. We celebrate his birthday anniversary with great affection here at #BecomeUngovernable Radio.
