Good morning, weekenders! We’re back for another weekend and we’ve got some great music on tap for you today, starting with our ‘In Your Dreams’ EP.

‘In Your Dreams’ begins at 9:00 a.m.

Here’s your musical lineup:

9:00 a.m. In Your Dreams: Various Artists

Who knew there were so many songs about dreams? Well, there are. And we didn’t even included all of them. You’ll hear The Everly Brothers, The Moody Blues, Van Morrison, The Flying Burrito Brothers, The Monkees, The Mamas & The Papas, Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, Linda Ronstadt, Randy Newman, Bob Dylan, Jimmy Buffett, Widespread Panic, Jackson Browne, Mudcrutch, Aretha Franklin, Patsy Cline, Roy Orbison, Harry Chapin, Townes Van Zandt, Electric Prunes, Dusty Springfield, Melissa Etheridge, John Prine, Tom Rush, Electric Light Orchestra and more!

4:00 p.m. In The Spotlight: The Music of Jackson Browne

The Prince of L.A. (I forget who called him that) is In The Spotlight today. He is, without a doubt, one of the finest singer-songwriters of his generation.

8:00 p.m. Laura Nyro Live at The Fillmore East, New York, NY, March 30, 1971

Speaking of brilliant singer-songwriters, here’s one who left the planet far too soon. Her music, however, lives on.

We’re here 24/7 at no charge to the listening public. And no. There isn’t any commercial advertising either. We’re all about the music.

‘Ode To Morning,’ an Allman Brothers Spotlight, and a Band Too Big To Fail Are All On Tap, Sunday, April 21, 2024

Good morning musicologists and welcome to The Mermaid Lounge where music is Queen. We have a great lineup on tap, so read on for details.

Here’s your Sunday Funday lineup:

9:00 a.m. Ode To Morning: Various Artists

Fittingly, we begin the morning with songs about the morning. You’ll hear Yusuf/Cat Stevens, Hoyt Axton, The Beatles, Neil Young, The Rascals, Waylon Jennings, Joan Baez, James Taylor, Gram Parsons, Simon & Garfunkel, Taj Mahal, Dan Fogelberg, Linda Ronstadt, Harry Chapin, Three Dog Night, Ry Cooder, Tim Buckley, Muddy Waters, Jonathan Edwards, Bob Dylan, Townes Van Zandt and more!

4:00 p.m. In The Spotlight: The Music of The Allman Brothers Band

This afternoon we put the spotlight on the band that introduced and anchored the Southern Rock sound, started in Jacksonville, Florida, in 1969 by brothers Duane and Greg Allman. Another founding member was Dicky Betts, one of the finest guitarists on the planet, who left this planet just a few days ago. This one’s for him.

8:00 p.m. Bonnie Raitt, Jackson Browne, Shawn Colvin, Bruce Hornsby, David Lindley & Wally Ingram Live at Red Rocks Amphitheater, Morrison, CO, September 12, 1999

This is the band that was too big to fail. I was lucky enough to see this tour at what was then called The Tweeter Center in Mansfield, MA, under the stars. It was fantastic.

We’re in a hurry here. We begin at nine, so no time to banter. Yes, I overslept. Enjoy the musical journey!

It’s a Laurel Canyon Day with Our EP, The Lovin’ Spoonful and Stephen Stills & Manassas, Thursday, April 18, 2024

8:00 p.m. Stephen Stills & Manassas Live at The Concertgebouw, Amsterdam, Netherlands, March 22, 1972

This often-forgotten supergroup was formed by Stephen Stills in 1971, mostly as a vehicle for Stills’ music. They released two albums before disbanding for good. Other members included Chris Hillman, founding member of The Byrds, Al Perkins, Dallas Taylor and Joe Lala.

We’re headed to the weekend once again and we’ll be here to help get you there with some great, commercial-free music. Did I mention we’re totally free and ask for neither a credit card nor your personal information.

It’s Sunday and We’ve Got Jackson Browne, Stephen Stills, and The Founders All On Tap For Today, April 7, 2024

Good morning, musicologists and welcome to Sunday in The Mermaid Lounge. We continue to air some of our EP’s in the evening hours just to ensure all this great stuff is available globally to all our listeners.

Here’s today’s musical lineup:

We’ve got a great live in-studio performance of Jackson Browne with David Lindley that was broadcast on WPLI-FM in New York to start off the programming.

3:00 p.m. In the Spotlight: The Music of Stephen Stills

Yeah, there was a lot of drama with CSNY. If you were on Twitter you heard about it. But their greatness cannot be diminished. Neither can the brilliance and influence of a guy named Stephen Stills. He’s In the Spotlight today with CSNY, Manassas and as a solo artist.

8:00 p.m. The Founders: Various Artists

Just who invented rock n’ roll? That’s a tough one because all these folks played a part in that effort. It was not a one-man or -woman event. You’ll hear them all, including Chuck Berry, Fats Domino, Little Richard, Bo Diddley, Jerry Lee Lewis, Elvis Presley, The Everly Brothers, Buddy Holly, Big Mama Thornton, Big Joe Turner, Hank Williams, Bill Haley & His Comets, Ray Charles, The Drifters, Roy Orbison, Robert Johnson, Carl Perkins, Eddie Cochran, Johnny Cash, Muddy Waters and more!

It’s Saturday With Joan Baez, Steely Dan & Our ‘Travelin’ Fever’ EP, April 6, 2024

Good morning, music lovers! We’ve got a Joan Baez Spotlight, some ‘live’ Steely Dan this afternoon and our ‘Travelin’ Fever’ EP playing a night shift for the first time for any EP!

Here’s your musical lineup:

10:00 a.m. In The Spotlight: The Music of Joan Baez

We kick things off with a Joan Baez Spotlight feature. In her vast 60-year career, Baez never failed to sing the music of justice. It’s in her DNA. In 2019, Joan Baez finally retired from touring, 59 years after she made her debut at the Newport Folk Festive at the age of 18.

3:00 p.m. Steely Dan Live at The National City Pavilion, Cincinnati, OH, July 13, 2008

We’ve got some great live jazz-rock from undoubtedly a Mermaid Lounge favorite, and one of the best things to come out of music in the seventies.

8:00 p.m. Travelin’ Fever: Various Artists FIRST TIME ON THE NIGHT SHIFT!

This marks the first time we’ve aired an EP in the evening, for the benefit of our global audience. You’ll hear Canned Heat, Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, Creedence Clearwater Revival, The Box Tops, Arlo Guthrie, The Allman Brothers Band, Bonnie Raitt, Jackson Browne, Linda Ronstadt, The Doors, Tom Rush, The Byrds, Little Feat, The Band, Willie Nelson, Edwin Starr, The Traveling Wilburys, Del Shannon, Janis Joplin, Ray Charles, The Doobie Brothers, Bob Dylan and more!

Stop on by The Lounge today. You won’t regret it. You can come and go as you please; there are no bouncers at the door. There’s no cover charge and we don’t run commercial advertising either. We’re all about the music.

Thursday Brings Our ‘In Your Dreams’ EP, a Jerry Jeff Walker Spotlight and Neil Young & Crazy Horse ‘Live’ on April 4, 2024

Good morning, musicologists! We’re on the downslide to the weekend and we’ve got a great lineup, including some new ‘live’ music from Neil Young & Crazy Horse.

Here’s today’s programming:

9:00 a.m. In Your Dreams: Various Artists

There are hundreds of songs about dreaming, but some do not make the cut. In this EP you’ll hear The Everly Brothers, The Moody Blues, Van Morrison, The Flying Burrito Brothers, The Monkees, The Mamas & The Papas, Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, Linda Ronstadt, Randy Newman, Bob Dylan, Jimmy Buffett, Widespread Panic, Jackson Browne, Mudcrutch, Aretha Franklin, Patsy Cline, Harry Chapin, Roy Orbison, Townes Van Zandt, Electric Prunes, Dusty Springfield, Melissa Etheridge, John Prine, Tom Rush, Electric Light Orchestra and more!

4:00 p.m. In The Spotlight: The Music of Jerry Jeff Walker

Perhaps best known for writing Mr. Bojangles, Jerry Jeff Walker was so much more than that. Along with Waylon Jennings, Willie Nelson and others, he was one of the pioneers of the outlaw country sound. I remember seeing him years ago at the old Harvard Square Theater in Cambridge as the opening act for Little Feat. I was hooked and have been ever since.

This live performance was a warm-up for his Ragged Glory Tour. This two-hour performance includes three sets and an encore, by one of the greatest singer-songwriters of his generation who keeps on keeping on.

The “Court & Spark” Finale, A Trip to Laurel Canyon, and ‘Live’ Heartbreakers on Saturday, March 16, 2024

Good morning, weekenders! We have made it to Saturday once again, and we’ve got some great stuff on tap, including The Heartbreakers 30th Anniversary Tour from Gainsville.

Here’s your Saturday lineup:

9:00 a.m. Album of The Week: Court & Spark by Joni Mitchell FINAL AIRING!

Today we give you the final airing of this unbelievably amazing album, one of the best albums of all time, as we continue on the 50th anniversary roundup.

12:00 p.m. Music From Laurel Canyon: Various Artists

We’ve got an update on tap for this great playlist that covers two generations of musicians who lived and made music together in Laurel Canyon. It was the cross-fertilization of styles that helped usher in country-rock. You’ll hear The Byrds, The Mamas & The Papas, The Doors, The Lovin’ Spoonful, Jackson Browne, Joni Mitchell, The Monkees, CSNY, Manassas, John Mayall, The Eagles, J.D. Souther, Harry Nilsson, Canned Heat, Linda Ronstadt, Carole King, James Taylor, Joan Baez, Judy Collins, The Souther-Hillman-Furay Band and more!

8:00 p.m. Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers Live From the Stephen C. O’Connell Center, Gainesville, FL, September 21, 2006

The photo on this post is from an earlier timeframe, but the energy The Heartbreakers brought to their live performances never changed over their amazing 40-year run. This would be the band’s 30th Anniversary Tour from their hometown, and it was a beauty.

Wake up and tune us in. We’re on 24/7; not just when we have programming. We’re continually circulating 27,000 songs daily. You never know what’s coming next, and that’s what we really like about radio. Those were the days. We didn’t have custom playlists, Spotify, or whatever else pay-for-play hell is out there. We had our transistor radios and endless summer days waiting for the next song to cue up.

Our ‘Water, Water Everywhere’ EP, Steely Dan, and Early ‘Live’ Bob Dylan Are All On Tap for Thursday, March 7, 2024

Good morning, musicologists and welcome to The Mermaid Lounge where it is, yes, raining again. An EP about water is appropriate for the day, so that’s where we start.

Here’s your musical lineup:

9:00 a.m. Water, Water Everywhere: Various Artists

Water is one of the main elements of life, and you have no idea how many references to it there are in popular music until you go looking. You’ll hear Paul McCartney, Deep Purple, Joe Cocker, Simon & Garfunkel, The Beatles, Bruce Springsteen, Jackson Browne, Otis Redding, The Doobie Brothers, Valerie Carter, Bob Dylan, Alison Krauss & Union Station, Al Green, Loggins & Messina, Steely Dan, Bob Seger & The Silver Bullet Band, Spirit, Linda Ronstadt, Tom Rush, Bonnie Raitt, Carole King, Van Morrison and more!

4:00 p.m. Album of The Week: Pretzel Logic by Steely Dan

We are winding down on this great album. The final airing will be sometime on Saturday.

This is early Bob Dylan recorded live sometime during October of 1962 at The Gaslight, in Greenwich Village, the hub of the great folk music revival. The performance happened between his first and second albums, when he was still relatively unknown.

We’ve Got ‘The Female Species’ EP, Queen’s AOW, and Bobbie Gentry In The Spotlight Later, Thursday, February 29, 2024

Good morning, musicologists and welcome to the downslide to the weekend! We’ve got quite an eclectic lineup today, including songs about women, girls, dames, sistahs, ladies and all that stuff.

4:00 p.m. Album of The Week: Sheer Heart Attack by Queen

We’re winding down on this one. The final airing will be sometime Saturday.

7:00 p.m. In The Spotlight: The Music of Bobbie Gentry

Did you know that Bobbie Gentry charted 11 singles on the Billboard Hot 100 during her career, and that she was one of the first female performers to write and produce her own material? Well, it’s true. Although she was a reluctant star who simply took herself out of the stardom loop, her talent and contributions should never be forgotten.

I can hear the wind outside; it’s been going all night. Yesterday here it was 55 degrees; today it’ll be 33. So, if you’re where I am and you don’t have to be anywhere, why not simply tune us in? We’re on 24/7 and we’re totally free. No strings. No kidding.
