Today We’ve Got Our ‘Travelin’ Fever’ EP, With Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young Live From Wembley Later, Friday, April 8, 2022

Good Morning, Road Warriors! Today we’ve got our Travelin’ Fever multi-artist EP up first, with some live Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young a bit later.

Here’s today’s line-up:

10:00 a.m. Travelin’ Fever: Various Artists

This one’s a bit different than yesterday’s ‘On The Map’ although some elements certainly are the same. This is more about hitting the road than locations with Canned Heat, Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, Creedence Clearwater Revival, the Steve Miller Band, Dan Fogelberg, Jackson Browne, Bonnie Raitt, Led Zeppelin, The Doors, The Eagles, Little Feat, The Band, Bruce Springsteen, Willie Nelson, Edwin Starr, Janis Joplin, The Traveling Wilburys, Asleep At The Wheel, The Byrds, Mudcrutch, and more!

7:00 a.m. Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young Live at Wembley Stadium, London, November 4, 1974

My second favorite supergroup right here, right behind The Traveling Wilburys. They were always an adventure, so they should have been called Crosby, Stills, Nash & (Sometimes) Young. But their music is timeless in all their iterations.

Tune us in, folks. We are up and running 24/7 totally free of charge and totally free of commercial advertising. What more could you possibly ask for. Maybe that we play rap and hip & hop, but that’s not going to happen either.

We’re at Midweek With Our ‘Are You Ready For The Country’ EP and Bonnie Raitt, Jackson Brown, Shawn Colvin, and Others Live at Red Rocks, Wednesday, March 16, 2022

Good Morning, Musicologists! We are at midweek, and we’ve got some great music for you today starting with our ‘Are You Ready For The Country’ EP.

Bonnie Raitt, Jackson Browne, Shawn Colvin, Bruce Hornsby and David Lindley will serenade you from the same stage a bit later!

Here’s today’s line-up:

10:00 a.m. Are You Ready For The Country? Various Artists

Well, are you? Because we’ve got the masters of (real) country and country-rock right here for you. Definitely no bad pop bands with fiddles. Only the real thing. You’ll hear Willie Nelson, Guy Clark, Johnny Cash, Waylon Jennings, Dolly Parton, Pure Prairie League, Neil Young, Emmylou Harris, Linda Ronstadt, The Flying Burrito Brothers, Asleep at The Wheel, Gram Parsons, The Byrds, Pure Prairie League, The Ozark Mountain Daredevils, The Marshall Tucker Band, The Eagles, Townes Van Zandt. Steve Earle & The Dukes, Mudcrutch, Jerry Jeff Walker, The Band, Bob Dylan, and more!

7:00 p.m. Bonnie Raitt, Jackson Browne, Shawn Colvin, Bruce Hornsby, and David Lindley Live at Red Rocks Amphitheatre, Morrison, CO, September 12, 1999

This was one hell of a show. I did not attend the Red Rocks event, but I did see the tour when it passed through Massachusetts. It was an amazing event seeing all these great musicians and singers together on one stage with no egos in the way. Tune it in.

Here we are again, literally begging you to tune in. And we’re not doing it for the money because we don’t actually make any money on this little endeavor. It’s a labor of musical love that I share my personal music collection with all of you. Get it while it’s hot, free, and free of commercial interruption.

We Start the Week With Mudcrutch Monday Madness, J. Geils In the Spotlight, and Lukas Nelson & POTR Live Later, March 14, 2022

Good Morning, Mudcrutch Lovers everywhere! We haven’t had Monday Madness for a bit, so it’s time to bring it back to the airwaves. We kick things off at high noon today. Until then, it’s wide Open Stream!

It’s a Mudcrutch kind of Monday here in The Mermaid Lounge! (Photo by Dennis Callahan)

Here’s your musical line-up:

12:00 p.m. Mudcrutch Monday Madness!

Yes, we’re back with the entire Mudcrutch catalogue, including that great live version of Hungry No More recorded at Boston’s House of Blues in 2016. As someone in attendance that night said to me, “It was like the Second Coming.”

4:00 p.m. In The Spotlight: The Music of The J. Geils Band

Yeah, we have Boston’s original Bad Boys right here, Aerosmith notwithstanding. And we’re putting them In the Spotlight this afternoon.

7:00 p.m. Lukas Nelson & Promise of The Real Live at The Boathouse, Newport News, Virginia, June 14, 2020

Willie’s boy is back tonight with a great live performance. There’s a reason why Neil Young takes these guys on the road with him. See for yourself.

It’s a Monday. They’re rough on the psyche every week, but you’ll feel better with some good music to get you through the day. We’ve got it here. And at no charge whatsoever to you. Join your friends from The Netherlands, Ireland, Brazil, Faroe Islands, Portugal, the UK, Germany, France, Mexico, Peru, Spain, and points beyond today!

We’re Heading For The Weekend With Our New ‘In Your Dreams’ EP, and Our Album of The Week Later, Thursday, February 24, 2022

10:00 a.m. In Your Dreams: Various Artists NEW!

We debut our newest long player today, called In Your Dreams, a playlist that includes the word dreams (and its variations, of course) in the title or lyrics…or a song that tells a story about a dream. You will hear Cream, Paul McCartney & Wings, the Marshall Tucker Band, Linda Ronstadt, Emmylou Harris, Laura Nyro, Patti Smith, The Wallflowers, John Prine, John Lennon, Tom Rush, Joni Mitchell, Nanci Griffith, The Band, Bruce Springsteen, The Shelters, Hot Tuna, Townes Van Zandt, Randy Newman, Three Dog Night, Mudcrutch, Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, The James Gang, Taj Mahal, Aerosmith, Alison Krauss, Electric Light Orchestra, Stephen Stills, Alison Krauss, Fats Domino, Widespread Panic, Roy Orbison, Bob Dylan, The Youngbloods, Patsy Cline and more! That’s five straight hours of uninterrupted music.

7:00 p.m. Album of The Week: Meet The Beatles by The Beatles

The next-to-last airing of the musical shot heard ’round the world is upon us. Get it while you can, folks. When you wake up on Sunday, disgusted with another foot of snow (at least in these here parts), there’s going to be a new selection on the turntable.

Great day to tune us in. We’ve got a great collection of extended playlists with themes, and ‘In Your Dreams’ is our newest. Be here today for its debut! It won’t cost you a cent. No joining fees. No subscriptions. No money must change hands. And no personal information is required (because we do not accept advertising to keep us afloat). We’re here in The Mermaid Lounge sharing our personal collection of more than 27,000 songs!

Today We Have Our ‘Are You Ready For The Country’ EP on Tap, Along With The Band ‘Live’ in D.C., Friday, January 14, 2022

Good Morning, Music Lovers! It’s time once again for our country-country rock EP, and we give you a special treat later with The Band live in Washington, D.C. as broacast by the King Biscuit Flower Hour!

The Band: From Bob Dylan’s back-up musicians to one of the most influential bands in popular music.

Here’s your Friday musical landscape:

11:00 a.m. Are You Ready For The Country?: Various Artists

It’s coming around again! We’ve got a great EP for you today. It’s proving to be one of our most popular as well, and that comes as no surprise with this line-up: Guy Clark, Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings, Dolly Parton, Johnny Cash, Linda Ronstadt, Neil Young, The Byrds, Gram Parsons, Emmylou Harris, Pure Prairie League, Asleep At The Wheel, The Band, Mudcrutch, Jerry Jeff Walker, The Marshall Tucker Band, Bob Dylan, Steve Earle, Townes Van Zandt, The Ozark Mountain Daredevils, The Eagles, and more!

7:00 p.m. The Band Live at The Carter Baron Amphitheater, Washington, D.C., July 17, 1976

Undoubtedly one of our favorites here in The Mermaid Lounge. Starting as Bob Dylan’s back-up band, they went on to become one of the greatest bands of their generation, and one of the most influential as well. This is the stuff legends are made from, and we consider The Band in that category. This one was live from D.C. and broadcast on the legendary King Biscuit Flower Hour.

Before in between and after, we give you that great wide Open Stream. We’re here in the lounge where the music never stops. We’re 24/7 totally free, no credit card, no personal information required. All we want is for you to tune us in by clicking the button below.

It’s The First Moan-Day of the Year, But We’ll Cheer You With Our ‘Water, Water Everywhere’ EP and Valerie Carter In the Spotlight, January 3, 2022

Good Morning, Musicologists! Yes. It’s the very first Monday of 2022 and, unfortunately, I’m working on my day off due to a COVID outbreak. Therefore, I can empathize with you all on this one. But we have got something to cheer you up for sure.

Indeed more than a pretty face. One of the most brilliant singer-songwriters of her generation.

Here’s your Moan-Day, Moan-Day line-up:

12:00 p.m. Water, Water Everywhere: Various Artists

Water makes up 71% of the earth. When I say that to people, they look at me like I’m a loon. Hey, look it up. I’m not making that shit up. So, therefore, it’s only fitting that we bring you this playlist. (Not to mention the fact that it’s been raining here in the Beantown area for the last five days.) You’ll hear Bob Dylan, Valerie Carter, The Band, Linda Ronstadt, Neil Young, Deep Purple, Bruce Springsteen, Alison Krauss & Union Station, Bruce Hornsby, The Grass Roots, Lindisfarne, Electric Light Orchestra, Gordon Lightfoot, Bonnie Raitt, Carole King, Mudcrutch, Tedeschi Trucks Band, Tracy Nelson, B.J. Thomas, Al Green, Foo Fighters, and more! Just about five hours of uninterrupted music about water in the title, lyrics, or both.

7:00 p.m. In The Spotlight: The Music of Valerie Carter

On this particular count, let’s start off by saying that there are still times when I mention Valerie Carter and people look at me like they’re lost in the ozone. That’s because they are if they don’t know who she is or what she accomplished in her career. I could write a tome here, but I don’t have to. Just read this article instead and you’ll know who she is. Then you can tune this playlist in and understand why she’s a Mermaid Lounge favorite.

Before, in between and after, we are streaming 24/7 free of charge. We don’t ask for a damned thing, except that you give us a spin. Join your friends today from the UK, Spain, Portugal, Greece, Italy, Denmark, Iceland, Faroe Islands, Russian Federation, Germany, Switzerland, South Africa, and points beyond. All you need to do is click the button below for immediate connection.

We’ve Got a Mudcrutch Monday, a Brand New Beatles Playlist, and Lukas Nelson & POTR In The Spotlight Later, December 20, 2021

Yes, I’ll say it: Happy Monday, Musicologists! We’ve got a great opening day of the work week that features a fun, new Beatles playlist, Mudcrutch, and Lukas Nelson & Promise of The Real later.

We’ve got a great, new Beatles playlist up today at 3:00 p.m.

Here’s your Monday line-up:

11:00 a.m. MUDCRUTCH MONDAY! Mudcrutch Live at The Fonda Theater, Hollywood, California, June 26, 2016

Yes, it’s a Mudcrutch Monday again and we’ve got the tour I may never forgive myself for missing. Why? Because it was one of the last opportunities I had to see Mudcrutch for the first time ever, and Tom Petty for the fifth. And, by the way, they blew the doors off the Boston House of Blues with Hungry No More, my favorite Mudcrutch song. What’s not to be upset about here?

3:00 p.m. The Beatles: Songs With Character NEW!

This was a fun one to put together. It’s all about the man in the mack, a lonely woman named Eleanor Rigby, an ode to Dear Prudence, the barber shaving another customer on Penny Lane, a serial killer with a hammer, the walrus, the eggman, the taxman, Bungalow Bill, a racoon named Rocky, a lady trying to make ends meet, a Nowhere Man named Jeremy Hillary Boob, Ph.D., a chick flying around the sky with diamonds while another leaves home, and more! The Beatles know how to tell a story.

7:00 p.m. In The Spotlight: The Music of Lukas Nelson & Promise of The Real

Also known as POTR for short. A week ago we played Dylan’s boy. Today we feature Willie’s boy, and he’s no slouch either. Get yourself ready for some great country rock to cap off our programming.

Monday. Start the week on the right foot here at #BecomeUngovernable Radio. We’re totally free and uninterrupted by commercial bullshit and DJ banter. It’s all about the music, people. And we’re 24/7.

It’s ‘All About Blue’ Today, We’ve Got Emmylou Harris In the Spotlight, and CCR Live at The Fillmore, Monday, December 13, 2021

Good Morning, Music Lovers! Guess what? We have short(er) playlists too! We’ve got a great one today along with Emmylou Harris and Creedence Clearwater Revival to kick off your work week!

Here’s Monday’s line-up:

11:00 a.m. All About Blue, Various Artists

Hey, it’s not just about EP’s here in The Mermaid Lounge. We have all kinds of multi-artist playlists, including this one with the color ‘blue’ in the title, lyrics or both! You’ll hear from The Allman Brothers Band, Linda Ronstadt, Foreigner, Mudcrutch, Joni Mitchell, Jonathan Edwards, Taj Mahal, Bob Dylan, Electric Light Orchestra, Wings, George Harrison, The Band, Fats Domino, The Traveling Wilburys, Elvis Presley, Badfinger, and Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers.

3:00 p.m. In The Spotlight: The Music of Emmylou Harris

Emmylou Harris’ career began back in 1969 and she is still on the move. During that time she has won 14 Grammy Awards, the Polar Music Prize (and many other awards too numerous to mention here), been inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 2008, and was awarded the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award. Harris is rightfully credited with making country more accessible to a wider audience, and today we put her In the Spotlight.

7:00 p.m. Creedence Clearwater Revival Live at The Fillmore West, San Francisco, July 4, 1971

When I was young and dumb, I just assumed that these guys came straight out of the Louisiana Bayou. In fact, what we have are four guys from Berkeley who sounded like they came straight out of the Louisiana Bayou. They also just happened to make some of the greatest rock n’ roll on the planet. We love these guys here in The Lounge. Today we have the live from The Fillmore for your listening pleasure. Cook up some crawfish and shrimp and enjoy.

Here we are again. Yesterday we added listeners from India and today they seem to be back here again today. Argentina has also joined the crowd this morning as well. Where are you?

That’s DR. Tom Petty and His 65 Best Songs, and Our Brand New Album of The Week Amidst A Lot of Open Stream, Sunday, December 5, 2021

Good Morning, Musicologists! Today we are switching gears on the fly and shuffling the schedule so we can celebrate Dr. Tom Petty’s honorary Ph.D. in Music from the U of Florida! Read on!

Today we celebrate DOCTOR Tom Petty’s Career!

Here’s Sunday Funday’s programming:

10:00 a.m. Album of The Week: The Smile Sessions by The Beach Boys NEW!

The Beach Boys’ Smile album never really came to fruition. It was actually abandoned back in 1967. In 2011, The Smile Sessions was released…and in several forms. You can read about it in detail here. What we give you this week is one version and it’s the 19 songs that theoretically present what the final version of Smile would have been. It’s a great trip.

1:00 p.m. Deb’s Stream: Tom Petty’s 65 Greatest Songs UPDATED!

A few days ago, the University of Florida posthumously awarded Tom Petty a Doctorate in Music, adding to his musical legend. I imagine that most people know this was an honor long deserved. (If you don’t, this is probably not the radio station you want to listen to.) Today we present our very subjective list of Petty’s best songs, not just with the Heartbreakers, but also with Mudcrutch, the Traveling Wilburys, and as a solo artist. It has been updated and, guess what, if I were to do this over, it could be different.

If you are only familiar with Tom Petty’s “hits,” this is a good chance for you to step out and hear some of his lesser known songs. That’s why there are 65 of them.

This will be a fun day for Petty fans everywhere (and that will include me). The rest of the day is dedicated to wide Open Stream of continually rotating 27,000+ songs. And all of this is free because we’re not a business. We’re a music emporium.

It’s Saturday in The Mermaid Lounge and We Bring You (Appropriately) Our ‘Water, Water Everywhere’ EP, LIVE DEAD, and Our Album of The Week, December 4, 2021

Good Morning, Music Lovers around the globe! What would a Mermaid be without water? Right? Today we’ve got our ‘Water, Water Everywhere’ EP along with our AOW and LIVE DEAD! later.

Water covers 71% of the planet. And today we sing its praises with our EP.

Here’s your Saturday line-up:

11:00 a.m. Water, Water Everywhere: Various Artists

It is a fact that 71% of the planet is composed of water. Where would we be without it? Today, we have our EP dedicated to water of all kinds in the title, lyrics or both. You’ll hear Valerie Carter, Bob Dylan, The Band, Linda Ronstadt, Neil Young & Crazy Horse, Bruce Springsteen, Deep Purple, Steely Dan, Tom Rush, Alison Krauss & Union Station, The Grass Roots, Bruce Hornsby & The Range, Lindisfarne, Electric Light Orchestra, Gordon Lightfoot, Bonnie Raitt, Carole King, Mudcrutch, Tedeschi Trucks Band, Tracy Nelson, Al Green, B.J. Thomas, Foo Fighters, and more!

7:00 p.m. Album of The Week: Rising Sons featuring Taj Mahal & Ry Cooder FINAL AIRING!

Today is the final airing of this great album, so be sure to tune it in. Tomorrow when you roll out of bed, we’ll have a brand new featured album.

10:00 p.m. LIVE DEAD! The Grateful Dead Live at McArthur Court, University of Oregon, Eugene, January 22, 1978 NEW!

Another new one from the ultimate road and jam band. John Mayer has already said that Dead Again may well continue on after the remaining Grateful Dead members retire. It’s a testament to their longevity, but I will say it again: Any band without Jerry Garcia is not The Grateful Dead. Period. Without the rest of the band, they’re really not The Grateful Dead. That still stands.

It’s Saturday and The Mermaid Lounge is cookin’ with the UK, France, Germany, Spain, Portugal, Greece, Italy, Brazil, Russian Federation, Netherlands, Switzerland, Denmark, and points beyond all tuned in. Why? Because they “get it.” When will you?
