On Sunday We Deliver J. D. Souther’s AOW, Our ‘Ode To Morning’ Multi-Artist EP, and Stephen Stills as Our Singer-Songwriter, July 9, 2023

Good morning, music lovers! Yes, we are deviating from the norm a bit here because we celebrated Ringo’s 83rd birthday yesterday, but we’re back on track with some great programming today!

Here’s Sunday’s lineup:

9:00 a.m. Album of The Week: Black Rose by John David (J.D.) Souther NEW!

Throughout his career, J.D. Souther has been primarily known as a songwriter who has been recorded by many artists, including The Eagles, Linda Ronstadt and Bonnie Raitt. Today he owns our Album of The Week because we believe he’s more than that. He’s a singer-songwriter (and his turn will be coming up soon) of extraordinary talent, and Black Rose is one of the best albums ever recorded.

11:00 a.m. Ode To Morning: Various Artists

For the first time, we had our ‘Here Comes The Night’ and ‘Ode To Morning’ EP’s fall back-to-back. Today we pay homage to the sunrise with Cat Stevens, Hoyt Axton, The Beatles, Neil Young, The Rascals, Waylon Jennings, Joan Baez, James Taylor, Gram Parsons, Simon & Garfunkel, Chris Hillman, Taj Mahal, Dan Fogelberg, Linda Ronstadt, Harry Chapin, Three Dog Night, Ry Cooder, Tim Buckley, Muddy Waters, Jonathan Edwards, Bob Dylan, Townes Van Zandt, Pure Prairie League, Badfinger and more!

8:00 p.m. Singer-Songwriter Series: The Music of Stephen Stills NEW!

Tonight we introduce the one-and-only Stephen Stills as our featured singer-songwriter for the week. The guy’s talent cannot be denied, in spite of some of the personal mud slinging that has gone on between members of Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young. We also trace his career as a solo artist, as well as with Crosby, Stills & Nash (pre-Young) his band, Manassas.

We hope you’ll tune us in on this fine programming day. We’re on 24/7, not just when we have programming, and we’re totally free of charge. No surprises. No subscriptions. No credit cards. No personal information required. It’s all about the music.

It’s Saturday With Our ‘Ode to Morning’ EP, Guy Clark’s AOW (Final Airing), and Rickie Lee Jones as Our New Featured Singer-Songwriter, June 10, 2023

Good morning, musicologists! We have made it to Saturday. The weekenders are in The Lounge and the programming commences at 10:00 a.m. But don’t forget, we’re on 24/7 with our wide Open Stream.

Here’s your Saturday lineup:

10:00 a.m. Ode to Morning: Various Artists

We start the progamming with songs about the morning in the title, lyrics or both. You’ll hear Cat Stevens, Hoyt Axton, The Beatles, Neil Young, The Rascals, Waylon Jennings, Joan Baez, James Taylor, Gram Parsons, Simon & Garfunkel, Taj Mahal, Dan Fogelberg, Linda Ronstadt, Chris Hillman, Harry Chapin, Three Dog Night, Ry Cooder, Tim Buckley, Muddy Waters, Jonathan Edwards, Bob Dylan, Townes Van Zandt, Pure Prairie League, Badfinger and more!

4:00 p.m. Album of The Week: Texas Cookin’ by Guy Clark FINAL AIRING!

We bid a more than fond farewell to this great album today. We’re sorry to see it go, but there will be more opportunities for Guy Clark as we move through the year. Tomorrow we’ll have a brand new album for you.

8:00 p.m. Singer-Songwriter Series: The Music of Rickie Lee Jones NEW!

In spite of the fact that Rickie Lee Jones has been at it for five decades, she has shunned the limelight. It’s only fitting, then, that we feature her as this week’s singer-songwriter. She has refused to be defined by one style, writing and singing songs from a variety of genres including rock, R & B, pop, soul and jazz.

Join us today. The Lounge is filling up fast, but there’s plenty of room for everyone here. We’re all about sharing great music at absolutely no cost to anyone and with no commercial interruption. See for yourselves!

We’re at Midweek With the ‘Ode To Morning’ EP, the Great J. J. Cale, and Some ‘Live’ Allman Brothers Later, on Wednesday, May 10, 2023

Good morning, music lovers. We’ve got our midweek mojo going with some great programming today, including our multi-artist ‘Ode to Morning’ EP!

Here’s your midweek lineup:

9:00 a.m. Ode to Morning: Various Artists

Today it’s all about the beauty of the early morning hours with Cat Stevens, Hoyt Axton, The Beatles, Neil Young, The Rascals, Waylon Jennings, Joan Baez, James Taylor, Gram Parsons, Simon & Garfunkel, Taj Mahal, Dan Fogelberg, Linda Ronstadt, Harry Chapin, Three Dog Night, Ry Cooder, Tim Buckley, Muddy Waters, Jonathan Edwards, Bob Dylan, Townes Van Zandt, Pure Prairie League, Badfinger and more!

4:00 p.m. Singer-Songwriter Series: The Music of J. J. Cale

Mr. Cale takes his second turn as this week’s singer-songwriter. Not to be missed.

8:00 p.m. The Allman Brothers Band Live at The Atlanta International Pop Festival, Middle Georgia Raceway, Byron, GA, July 3 & 5, 1970

The brothers aren’t really “pop” singers but this wasn’t really a “pop” festival either. That was a popular catch word for popular music, not a specific reference to a music genre. But I digress. What could be better than closing out the day with some great blues-rock from the Allman Brothers Band?

We’re on 24/7, not just when we’re in program mode. We have international listeners who are on all night long. If you wake up and you can’t sleep, tune us in. All you need is the button below. We’re guaranteed to make your life better.

Midweek Brings the ‘Ode To Morning’ EP, Steve Winwood, and Volume Two of ‘Repeat After Me’ on Wednesday, April 12, 2023

Good morning, music lovers! We are at the midweek portion of the program here in what we call the ‘real world’ and we’ve got some great music on tap today! Read on for details!

Here’s your midweek lineup:

4:00 p.m. Singer-Songwriter Series: The Music of Steve Winwood

Steve Winwood returns for his second airing today as our featured singer-songwriter.

8:00 p.m. Repeat After Me, Volume Two: Various Artists

You heard the first volume earlier in the week and now we’ve got volume two on tap with The Mamas & The Papas covering the Shirelles, Tom Petty covering Fats Domino, Joe Cocker covering The Box Tops, The Eagles covering Jackson Browne, The Traveling Wilburys covering Del Shannon, Linda Ronstadt covering Kate & Anna McGarrigle, The Beatles covering The Isley Brothers and you should get the picture here.

After today, we get closer to the weekend (yeah, I know, not quite close enough yet), right? So it gets better from here. We’ll help you get there with less pain if you tune us in. We’re on 24/7 and we’re totally free. No lie. Try us.

Saturday in The Lounge Brings Our ‘Ode To Morning’ EP, The Final Airing of the AOW, and Tom Rush as Our Featured Singer-Songwriter for the Week, March 11, 2023

Good morning, music lovers! Our worldwide listeners are on and we’ve got a great programming lineup for you today, starting with our tribute to morning!

Here’s your Saturday lineup:

9:00 a.m. Ode To Morning: Various Artists

We’ve already paid homage to the night this month, so it’s time to do so for the morning with artists like Neil Young, Cat Stevens, Hoyt Axton, The Beatles, The Rascals, Waylon Jennings, Gram Parsons, Joan Baez, James Taylor, Simon & Garfunkel, Ta Mahal, Dan Fogelberg, Harry Chapin, Three Dog Night, Ry Cooder, Tim Buckley, Muddy Waters, Linda Ronstadt, Jonathan Edwards, Townes Van Zandt, Pure Prairie League, Bob Dylan, Chris Hillman, Badfinger, Joni Mitchell, Fleetwood Mac, The Move, Foreigner, Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, Nina Simone and more!

4:00 p.m. Album of The Week: Bluesiana Triangle by Bluesiana Triangle FINAL AIRING!

The final airing is upon us. This great album by Art Blakey, Dr. John and David “Fathead” Newman will be gone after this airing. Tomorrow we’ll have a new selection for you.

8:00 p.m. Singer-Songwriter Series: The Music of Tom Rush NEW!

Tom Rush is credited with ushering in the singer-songwriter era. Not only is he a songwriter himself, but he helped put several others on the map by singing their songs, most notably Joni Mitchell, Jackson Browne and James Taylor. Tom Rush has been at it for over sixty years. Today he is 82 and still active. I have fond memories of spending his 79th birthday with him at a concert in a church in Portsmouth, New Hampshire, his hometown. Tom Rush is a folk, blues, and New England legend. My favorite song by Tom? Kids These Days.

It’s Saturday and that’s always a good day to spend in The Mermaid Lounge. We kick it off early today at 9:00 a.m., so remember to just push the button below as we kick off your morning with songs about morning.

We’re Heading to the Weekend With Our ‘Ode To Morning’ EP, Our AOW Tribute to Townes Van Zandt, and Allen Toussaint In the Spotlight, Thursday, February 9, 2023

Good morning, folks! On Sunday we had our EP about the night time being the right time. Today we’ve got our ‘Ode To Morning’ EP, along with our Townes Van Zandt tribute AOW and the great New Orleans R & B master, Allen Toussaint.

Here’s Thursday’s lineup:

9:00 a.m. Album of The Week: Poet, A Tribute To Townes Van Zandt, Various Artists

We’re back with our AOW, this time in a fairly early morning airing for our listeners outside the U.S. You’ll hear John Prine, Emmylou Harris, Willie Nelson, Nanci Griffith and others singing the great songs of one of America’s premier songwriters.

11:00 a.m. Ode To Morning: Various Artists

Today we have our ode to the sunrise, and it’s certainly a beautiful one here outside of Boston, although they are predicting rain for later today. You will hear Joni Mitchell, The Move, Fleewood Mac, Foreigner, Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, Nina Simone, Cat Stevens, Hoyt Axton, The Beatles, Neil Young, The Rascals, Waylon Jennings, Joan Baez, James Taylor, Gram Parsons, Simon & Garfunkel, Taj Mahal, Dan Fogelberg, Harry Chapin, Three Dog Night, Ry Cooder, Tim Buckley, Muddy Waters, Linda Ronstadt, Jonathan Edwards, Townes Van Zandt, Pure Prairie League, Bob Dylan, Chris Hillman, Badfinger and more!

7:00 p.m. In the Spotlight: The Music of Allen Toussaint

Some of the greatest music comes out of the city of New Orleans, and Allen Toussaint was certainly a great music ambassador from the city. A musician, songwriter, arranger and producer, Toussaint was a legendary figure in New Orleans R & B from the 1950’s to the end of the century. Many recorded his compositions and he produced hundreds of songs, including Right Place, Wrong Time by his good friend Dr. John, and Lady Marmalade by LaBelle.

It’s always Black History Month here in The Mermaid Lounge, but we’ll be picking up the pace even more as we move through the month of February, so keep us dialed in. We’re totally free 24/7 with no commercial advertising. What’s not to love?

We Head Toward The Weekend With Our AOW, The ‘Ode To Morning’ EP, and a Tribute to Guitar Genius Jeff Beck, on Thursday, January 12, 2023

Good Morning, Music Lovers! We are on the downslide to the weekend as we give you an airing of Santana’s AOW, our ‘Ode to Morning’ multi-artist EP, and a tribute to Jeff Beck, a man who had a profound influence on popular music.

Here’s today’s lineup:

9:00 a.m. Album of The Week: Abraxas by Santana

We are on our next-to-last airing of this great Latin rock album here in The Mermaid Lounge. Our final airing will be sometime on Saturday, so you’ve got one more opportunity after this one!

11:00 a.m. Ode To Morning: Various Artists

We’ve had our musical tribute to the night time already this month, so now we turn to the morning hours where you will hear Joni Mitchell, The Move, Fleetwood Mac, Foreigner, Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, Nina Simone, Cat Stevens, Hoyt Axton, The Beatles, Neil Young, The Rascals, Waylon Jennings, Joan Baez, James Taylor, Gram Parsons, Simon & Garfunkel, Taj Mahal, Dan Fogelberg, Harry Chapin, Three Dog Night, Ry Cooder, Tim Buckley, Muddy Waters, Linda Ronstadt, Jonathan Edwards, Townes Van Zandt, Pure Prairie League, Bob Dylan, Chris Hillman, Badfinger and more!

7:00 p.m. The Yardbirds Live at B. B. King’s Blues Club, New York, NY, July 19, 2006

On January 10, we lost guitar god Jeff Beck at the age of 78, but he was more than just a guitar god. Beck influenced others for generations. He was an eight-time Grammy winner who spent time in The Yardbirds and The Jeff Beck Group. He was inducted into the Rock and Roll hall of Fame twice, once in 1992 with The Yardbirds and again in 2009 as a solo artist. As we assemble a Spotlight feature on him, we start with this great live reunion performance from 2006 at B. B. King’s Blues Club.

Before, in between and after we give you our wide Open Stream under the supervision of The Music Mermaid. She has impeccable taste in music, as you well know. We can make the trip to the weekend so much better with great music, and it won’t cost you a penny or require a “membership” of any kind. Hell, we don’t even ask your name.

On Saturday We’ve Got Our ‘Ode To Morning’ EP, The Final Airing of “Rumors” and The First Airing of Warren Zevon as This Week’s Singer-Songwriter, December 10, 2022

Good Morning, Musicologists! As the sun comes up in The Mermaid Lounge, we welcome you aboard the musical train for Saturday, for some, the first day of the weekend! My first day is tomorrow, but The Music Mermaid is here for you!

Here’s your lineup:

10:00 a.m. Ode To Morning: Various Artists

We’ve got a multi-artist EP paying homage to the night, and we’ve got one for the morning. This morning you will hear Joni Mitchell, The Move, Fleetwood Mac, Foreigner, Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, Nina Simone, Cat Stevens, Hoyt Axton, The Beatles, Neil Young, The Rascals, Waylon Jennings, Joan Baez, James Taylor, Gram Parsons, Simon & Garfunkel, Taj Mahal, Dan Fogelberg, Harry Chapin, Three Dog Night, Ry Cooder, Tim Buckley, Muddy Waters, Linda Ronstadt, Jonathan Edwards, Townes Van Zandt, Pure Prairie League, Bob Dylan, Chris Hillman, Badfinger and more!

4:00 p.m. Album of The Week: Rumors by Fleetwood Mac FINAL AIRING!

We bid a fond farewell to Rumors this afternoon, one of the greatest pop-rock albums ever made and certainly one that highlighted Christine McVie’s many talents. Tomorrow we’ll have a brand new one for you. Stay tuned.

7:00 p.m. Singer-Songwriter Series: The Music of Warren Zevon NEW!

I remember my first time seeing Warren Zevon live. It was at the Berkelee Performance Center in Boston, and he was two hours late for the show after making us suffer through 52 versions of Year of The Cat courtesy of Al Stewart, the opening act. We were foul of mood. That was, until Zevon got on stage and blew us all away. He was an extraordinary songwriter who broke onto the scene when someone named Linda Ronstadt started singing his songs. And Zevon had a great voice to boot. He may have been a self destructive character, but nobody can ever deny the man’s talents.

Give us a listen. We’re totally free of charge, so you’ve got absolutely nothing to lose. Your money is no good here in The Mermaid Lounge where we broadcast from. Not only do we not ask for a credit card; we also don’t ask you any personal information. We’ve got nothing for sale. It’s free. 24/7. No strings. No shit.

We End the Work Week With Our ‘Ode To Morning’ EP and The Allman Brothers ‘Live’ at The Fillmore East, on Friday, November 11, 2022

Good Morning, Music Lovers! We are on the final work day of the week (for most, but not for all), and we start it all off with our ‘Ode to Morning’ EP. The Allman Brothers Band bring up the rear later!

Here’s today’s musical lineup:

11:00 a.m. Ode To Morning: Various Artists

Ah, yes, we often open the month with our ‘Here Comes The Night’ EP and ease into our ‘Old To Morning’ EP. We’ve got it here today for you and it features Joni Mitchell, The Move, Fleetwood Mac, Foreigner, Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, Nina Simone, Cat Stevens, Hoyt Axton, The Rascals, The Beatles, Joan Baez, Neil Young, Waylon Jennings, James Taylor, Gram Parsons, Simon & Garfunkel, Taj Mahal, Dan Fogelberg, Harry Chapin, Three Dog Night, Ry Cooder, Tim Buckley, Muddy Waters, Linda Ronstadt, Jonathan Edwards, Townes Van Zandt, Pure Prairie League, Bob Dylan, Chris Hillman, Badfinger and more!

7:00 p.m. The Allman Brothers Band Live at The Fillmore East, New York City, March 12-13, 1971

Tonight we’ve got The Brothers live from a legendary venue, Bill Graham’s Fillmore East. I believe this is the very first time they ever played One Way Out ‘live’ anywhere, and that is undoubtedly a favored track here in The Mermaid Lounge!

Come on, folks, it’s Friday all around the globe and we’ve got a lot of listeners on this morning from a variety of locations, including Germany (always), the UK, Spain, Portugal, Australia, New York, California, Washington and points beyond. We’re totally free, we accept no advertising, and your money is absolutely no good here. Just listen.

Sunday in The Lounge Brings Our ‘Ode To Morning’ EP, Our New AOW, and a Birthday Celebration for John Lennon, October 9, 2022

It’s Sunday here in The Mermaid Lounge and the sun is just coming up over the horizon here and will soon be spilling into the studio. It’s a perfect day to celebrate John Lennon’s birthday.

We wish John Lennon a very happy birthday today! His celebration closes out our programming tonight at 7:00 p.m.

Here’s Sunday’s musical offering:

9:00 a.m. Ode To Morning: Various Artists

We opened the month with our ‘Here Comes The Night’ EP, so it’s only fitting that we continue on with our celebration of morning with Joni Mitchell, The Move, Fleetwood Mac, Foreigner, Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, Nina Simone, Yusef (Cat Stevens), Hoyt Axton, The Beatles, Neil Young, The Rascals, Waylon Jennings, Joan Baez, James Taylor, Gram Parsons, Simon & Garfunkel, Taj Mahal, Dan Fogelberg, Harry Chapin, Three Dog Night, Ry Cooder, Tim Buckley, Muddy Waters, Linda Ronstadt, Jonathan Edwards, Townes Van Zandt, Pure Prairie League, Bob Dylan, Chris Hillman, Badfinger and more!

3:00 p.m. Album of The Week: Gris-Gris by Dr. John NEW!

Here we have Dr. John’s debut album, released on January 22,1968. That’s when Malcolm John Rebennack, Jr. introduced us to his alter-ego (that would be Dr. John), reportedly based on a 19th century voodoo doctor. The rest is history. Dr. John shows us his vision right off the top. This album is a great combination of New Orleans R & B and psychedelia. Fun Fact: The entire album was funded by money that Dr. John and his arranger made on Sonny & Cher sessions!

7:00 p.m. In the Spotlight: John Lennon HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

We manage, finally, to pull one of these off on the very day as we celebrate the birthday anniversary of John Winston Ono Lennon, one of the greatest rock n’ rollers of all time and a visionary in his own right. We have music from his days with the Beatles, his solo work and his work with the Plastic Ono Band. Join the birthday celebration tonight.

It’s a day of rest. For those of you who’ve got the religion, remember that even the big guy took a day off. You should as well. The lounge is jumping with listeners this morning from Australia, Greece, Italy, France, the UK, Canada, The Netherlands, Switzerland, Sweden, Denmark, and our domestic friends in Florida, Kansas, Massachusetts, Maine, and California. Join the fun!
