Monday Brings Our ‘By The Numbers’ Playlist, Shawn Colvin’s Spotlight and Lennon-McCartney, March 4, 2024

Good morning, music lovers! We’re back to the work week, but all is well here in The Lounge. Today we close out our singer-songwriter series with the best.

Here’s your Monday music:

10:00 a.m. By The Numbers: Various Artists

We start with songs with numbers in the title, lyrics or both from Three Dog Night, Chicago, J. J. Cale, Steely Dan, Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, Jefferson Airplane, Alice Cooper, The Beatles, Emmylou Harris, The Grass Roots, The Lovin’ Spoonful, Paul Simon, Rosanne Cash, Johnny Rivers, The Searchers and more!

3:00 p.m. In The Spotlight: The Music of Shawn Colvin

It’s Women’s History Month, so we feel the need to pick up our game here a bit in the month of March. We start today by putting singer-songwriter Shawn Colvin in the spotlight.

We close out this version of our Singer-Songwriter Series with the best songwriting duo in the history of popular music from the band that changed everything. Nothing else needs to be said. All you need to do is listen.

On Monday We’ve Got ‘Wheels’, The Beatles Characters and Delbert McClinton As Our Singer-Songwriter, January 22, 2024

Good morning, musicologists and welcome to the first day of yet another work week! We kick off the week with some great playlists in between all that great Open Stream!

Here’s your Monday, Monday lineup:

11:00 a.m. Wheels: Various Artists

Since being on the road is a popular song subject, it only follows that cars and modes of transport would be as well. You’ll hear from Chuck Berry, Paul McCartney, Bo Diddley, Joni Mitchell, War, T. Rex, The Who, The Eagles, Janis Joplin, John Prine, The Byrds, The Beach Boys, Mudcrutch, The Beatles, Steppenwolf, Wilson Pickett, The Kinks, Alice Cooper and more!

The man in the mack, the barber showing photographs, a lonely person named Eleanor Rigby, a murderous student named Maxwell Silver Hammer, the fool who hangs out on the hill, the banker who doesn’t wear a mack in the pouring rain are all here. And then some.

The amazing Delbert McClinton is an American blues rock-electric blues singer, songwriter, guitarist, harmonica player and pianist. He has been at his craft since 1957 and is still active, his most recent album released in 2022. He has won four Grammys, is in the Texas Heritage Songwriters Hall of Fame, and was honored by the historic Paramount Theatre in Austin, Texas with the fifth star in their Walk of Fame. This evening he is most deservedly introduced as this week’s featured singer-songwriter.

Heading Toward the Weekend With the ‘Travelin’ Fever’ EP, Tom Rush, and Sir Paul McCartney, Thursday, November 2, 2023

Good morning, music lovers! We are in great company here as we roll along toward the weekend.

Here’s your musical lineup:

9:00 a.m. Travelin’ Fever: Various Artists

There are topics, and then there are topics. There are loads of songs about life on the road and traveling in general. We’ve got them today with Canned Heat, Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Jackson Browne, Steve Miller Band, Bonnie Raitt, Dan Fogelberg, Bruce Springsteen, Linda Ronstadt, Led Zeppelin, Paul McCartney & Wings, The Doors, The Eagles, Little Feat, The Band, Willie Nelson, Edwin Starr, Janis Joplin, Guy Clark, The Byrds, Joan Baez, The Traveling Wilburys, Asleep at The Wheel, Mudcrutch, Loggins & Messina, Buffalo Springfield, Tom Rush, The Guess Who, Ray Charles, Marshall Tucker Band, The Beatles, Bob Dylan and more!

4:00 p.m. Album of The Week: Merrimack County by Tom Rush

We’re winding down on this great album, so get in on it while you can. The final airing will be on Saturday, time TBD.

7:00 p.m. Paul McCartney Live at Citi Field, New York, NY, July 17-21, 2009

Tonight we close the programming with Macca recorded live at Citi Field in New York City. I never got the chance to see The Beatles live, leaving a musical hole in my life. However, I did get to see Sir Paul at Fenway Park in Boston and it was everything it was cracked up to be and then some. Tonight we have his New York performance from 2009.

We’re getting closer now. The weekend is on the horizon. And we’ve got some great new music coming up in November, including an expansion of our general rotation and some of our older playlists. Stand by.

Our ‘Water, Water Everywhere’ EP, Roy Orbison, and The Soul Sisters Are All On Tap for Wednesday, November 1, 2023

Good morning, music lovers! We open a brand new month with songs about water in all forms…rivers lakes, streams, oceans…you name it. Roy Orbison returns as our singer-songwriter, and The Soul Sisters pay a visit later.

Here’s your midweek lineup:

9:00 a.m. Water, Water Everywhere: Various Artists

We Keep It Simple With Our Carl Perkins & Friends AOW, and Our ‘Water, Water Everywhere’ Multi-Artist EP, Sunday, July 30, 2023

Good morning, weekenders! It’s officially a day of rest and the living is easy. We keep it simple here in The Mermaid Lounge too. Some streaming with a theme, our AOW and the rest our big, wide Open Stream with The Music Mermaid.

Here’s your musical landscape:

Perkins has made a few of these, but on this particular version (our favorite) his friends are outstanding with George Harrison, Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, Ringo Starr, Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson, John Fogerty, Paul McCartney and Paul Simon. This one is fun.

3:00 p.m. Water, Water Everywhere: Various Artists

We’ve given you the drill before: The earth is composed of 71% water. You’d think people would be concerned with taking care of that natural resource, but you’d be pretty wrong about that at this stage in our environmental history. You’ll hear from Paul McCartney, Deep Purple, Joe Cocker, Simon & Garfunkel, The Beatles, Bruce Springsteen, Jackson Browne, Otis Redding, The Doobie Brothers, Valerie Carter, Bob Dylan, Alison Krauss & Union Station, Al Green, Loggins & Messina, Bob Seger & The Silver Bullet Band, Linda Ronstadt, Spirit, The Grass Roots, The Beach Boys, Lindisfarne, Van Morrison, Bonnie Raitt, Carole King, Steely Dan, Tom Rush, Donovan, America, Johnny Rivers and more!

We Debut Our New ‘Friends of Mine’ EP, Give Paul McCartney His Final Spin as Our Singer-Songwriter, and Put Jeff Lynne’s ELO In The Spotlight, Friday, June 23, 2023

Good morning, musicologists! We are on the brink of the weekend here and we’ve made it to the end of another work week. We’ve got a brand new EP for you first thing today, and it’s all about friendship…both good and bad.

Here’s your end-of-the-work-week lineup:

9:00 a.m. Friends of Mine: Various Artists NEW!

Friends. What would we do without them? And sometimes, what do we do with them? You’ll hear all about it from The Guess Who, Willie Nelson, The Beach Boys, War, Gladys Knight & The Pips, The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, Todd Rundgren, Linda Ronstadt, Queen, R.E.M., Simon & Garfunkel, John Prine, The Kinks, Joan Baez, The Beatles, Carly Simon, Tracy Nelson, The Byrds, Desmond Dekker, Jackson Browne, Steppenwolf, Elton John, Carole King, Grateful Dead, Lou Reed, Robert Johnson, Hank Williams, Maria Muldaur, Otis Redding, Argent, Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers and more!

4:00 p.m. Singer-Songwriter Series: The Music of Paul McCartney FINAL AIRING!

Sir Paul takes his final spin as our featured singer-songwriter but, weep not, he’ll be back because we have yet to delve into Lennon-McCartney. Tomorrow we’ll have a brand new artist here.

8:00 p.m. In the Spotlight: The Music of Jeff Lynne’s ELO (Electric Light Orchestra)

Tonight we close the programming with great music from Electric Light Orchestra with the brilliant Jeff Lynne at the helm.

Hey, it’s Friday. Just grit it out. And if you need help and you have a computer, pull up a tab. We’ll help you get over the Friday blues with our great selection of music, all free of charge with no commercial interruption. And best of all, we’re on 24/7 unless there’s a natural disaster where our servers are based.

A Midweek Excursion on ‘The Psychedelic Express’ is Afoot, Followed by McCartney, and Finishing With ‘Live Hendrix’ in NYC, on Wednesday, June 21, 2023

Good morning, music lovers! We have a hell of a midweek lineup as we start with a little trip on the Psychedelic Express this morning!

Here’s your midweek lineup:

9:00 a.m. The Psychedelic Express: Various Artists

Ah, yes, you don’t need no tickets to hear one of rock music’s most enjoyable genres. You’ll hear Vanilla Fudge, The Chambers Brothers, The Beatles, Electric Prunes, The Animals, Jefferson Airplane, Blues Image, Creedence Clearwater Revival, The Doors, Pink Floyd, Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, Donovan, Strawberry Alarm Clock, The Byrds, Jimi Hendrix Experience, Traffic, Cream, Dr. John, Procol Harum, Fleetwood Mac, The Who, Canned Heat, Yes, Electric Light Orchestra, Tommy James & The Shondells, Mudcrutch, Blind Faith, Grateful Dead, Velvet Underground, Big Brother & The Holding Company and more!

4:00 p.m. Singer-Songwriter Series: The Music of Paul McCartney

McCartney takes his second spin as this week’s featured singer-songwriter, this time without his Beatles credentials. He’ll appear again with a guy named John Lennon later.

8:00 p.m. Jimi Hendrix Live at The Cafe Au Go Go, New York City, March 17, 1968

It’s a ‘live’ jam with Elvin Bishop, Harvey Brooks and Paul Butterfield. A splendid time was had by all.

We’re at midweek, so that means everthing after today is on the downslide to the weekend once again. We’re on 24/7 and we’re totally free. If that isn’t enough, we also do not air any commercial advertising. What’s not to love?

Welcome to Sunday in The Lounge! Today It Boils Down to Joni Mitchell and Sir Paul McCartney’s Birthday Bash, June 18, 2023

Good morning, revelers! We’ve moved our EP to Monday so we can celebrate on Macca’s official birth date. We’ve got some great stuff lined up starting with Joni Mitchell’s AOW!

Here’s your Sunday Funday lineup:

10:00 a.m. Album of The Week: The Hissing of Summer Lawns by Joni Mitchell NEW!

Although Court and Spark remains my favorite in this Mitchell jazz-influenced genre, The Hissing of Summer Lawns continues that trend with a more experimental approach. Her seventh studio album includes jazz-rock contributors The L.A. Express and The Jazz Crusaders, along with appearances by James Taylor, Graham Nash and David Crosby.

4:00 p.m. Paul McCartney Live at The Cavern Club, Liverpool, UK, December 14, 1999 NEW!

We start McCartney’s festival with a live recording of his 1999 show at The Cavern Club in Liverpool, where it all started with The Beatles. The show was in support of his album Run Devil Run, so you’ll hear a lot of great fifties and early sixties covers from those who influenced both his and The Beatles’ music here.

8:00 p.m. In The Spotlight: The Music of Paul McCartney

This particular set includes not only Macca’s work with Wings and his solo efforts, but many of his Beatle hits also, and will close out today’s programming.

As always, there’s a lot of wide Open Stream today. Happy Father’s Day to all the dads out there and we hope you’ll tune us in at least for a little while in between the cookouts and festivities. We’re on 24/7. The music never stops. And there’s absolutely, positively no commercial interruption.

We Start With Our ‘Are You Ready for The Country’ EP, Move to the Final Airing of Susan Tedeschi’s AOW, Then Kick off McCartney’s Birthday Bash Tonight, Saturday, June 17, 2023

Good morning, Macca fans! We’ve got the usual busy Saturday, but tonight we launch McCartney’s Birthday Bash as we introduce him as this week’s featured singer-songwriter.

Here’s your Saturday lineup:

9:00 a.m. Are You Ready for The Country: Various Artists

Well, are you? Because we’ve got traditional and country rock rolled into one here. You’ll be treated to Guy Clark, Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings, Dolly Parton, Johnny Cash, Emmylou Harris, Linda Ronstadt, Neil Young, They Byrds, Gram Parsons, Patsy Cline, Pure Prairie League, Asleep at The Wheel, The Ozark Mountain Daredevils, Bob Dylan, The Eagles, Townes Van Zandt, Steve Earle, Marshall Tucker Band, Jerry Jeff Walker, Mudcrutch, The Band, Alison Krauss & Union Station, Glen Campbell, Rosanne Cash, Dan Fogelberg, New Riders of The Purple Sage, John Prine, The Desert Rose Band, Hank Williams and more!

4:00 p.m. Album of The Week: Just Won’t Burn by Susan Tedeschi FINAL AIRING!

Today’s the final airing of this great blues album by singer-songwriter Susan Tedeschi. Don’t miss it!

8:00 p.m. Singer-Songwriter Series: The Music of Paul McCartney NEW!

Paul McCartney is undoubtedly one of the most successful singer-songwriters of his generation with absolutely nothing left to prove to the world. Yet, he’s still out there making music and filling venues at the age of 81. And yes, it all began with The Beatles all those years ago, but this particular playlist is McCartney without The Beatles. And that’s because we still have yet to do Lennon-McCartney as our featured singer-songwriters. (That is coming.) Macca’s body of work since The Beatles split is immense, beginning with his ten years leading Wings (longer than The Beatles existed) and his solo work. This is how we kick off his birthday bash weekend. More tomorrow.

We’re here 24/7, folks, and we’re totally free of charge. We also fight capitalism at every turn because there is absolutely no commercial advertising. Join our international community this weekend.
