On Sunday It’s Our House EP, a ZZ Top ‘Spotlight’ and The Jerry Garcia Band Live at Roseland Ballroom, March 2, 2025

Welcome, weekenders! Today we’ve got a pretty eclectic lineup for you that includes our House EP, then some electric blues-rock from ZZ Top and a live performance by The Jerry Garcia Band.

Here’s your Sunday Funday lineup:

9:00 a.m. The #BecomeUngovernable House EP: Various Artists

The music that inspired the station includes Barry McGuire, The Temptations, Edwin Starr, Peter Tosh, The Beatles, T. Rex, The Who, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Bob Dylan, Country Joe & The Fish, Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, Bob Marley & The Wailers, Joan Baez, CSNY, Pink Floyd, The Animals, Ten Years After, The Plastic Ono Band, Sam Cooke, The Rolling Stones, Joni Mitchell, Jimmy Hendrix, Three Dog Night, Jimmy Cliff, Richie Havens, Marvin Gaye, The Association, Phil Ochs, Tom Rush, The Band and more!

4:00 p.m. In The Spotlight: The Music of ZZ Top

ZZ Top started up in 1969 and stood the test of time until Dusty Hill’s untimely death in 2021. We’ve got them ‘In the Spotlight’ this afternoon.

8:00 p.m. The Jerry Garcia Band Live at The Roseland Ballroom, New York, NY

We close out the day’s programming (but not the music) with a performance by the Jerry Garcia Band at the iconic Roseland Ballroom and Dance Hall in New York.

It’s a day to kick back and relax. The Orange Fascist Blob is golfing, so the mayhem has abated until tomorrow. Great time to retool and relax with some great music. Tomorrow the lunacy returns. Let’s get through this together. Music helps. And we’re beholding to no billionaires here. We’re totally free and anti-capitalist. The button is below.

It’s Tuesday Bluesday and We’ve Got Some ‘live’ Blues Project, ‘live’ Gov’t Mule, and The Stones With The AOW, August 9, 2022

Good Morning, Bluesologists! Welcome back to another Tuesday Bluesday here in The Mermaid Lounge, where all musical things are possible. We’ve got some great stuff today!

Here’s your Tuesday Bluesday lineup:

11:00 a.m. The Blues Project Live at The Cafe Au Go Go, New York, NY, November 24-27, 1965

This is some vintage Blues Project here, recorded during a five-night residency back in 1965, when the rock music world was still fairly new. A classic band in a very classic venue.

3:00 p.m. Album of The Week: Aftermath by The Rolling Stones

Our Album of The Week is back for a second spin. Technically, the Stones began moving out of their blues comfort zone on this one, their first album of complete Jagger-Richards compositions. It’s a beauty.

7:00 p.m. Gov’t Mule Live at Roseland Ballroom, New York, October 22, 1996 NEW!

This is a relatively short live stint for these guys, one of the great jam bands in the fine tradition of The Dead, but it’s a good one. And we’ve got more where this came from cued up for the future.

Tuesday Bluesday is always a good day here in The Mermaid Lounge. We are always on the hunt for old ‘found’ stuff and we’ve got some on tap as we upgrade our library for the fall months. Give us a spin, folks. We are 100% free with no surprises and no strings. We also never ask for your personal information because we are not going to sell you anything. We also do not accept advertising. Just do it.

Today We’re ‘Between Heaven & Hell’ and We Celebrate Jerry Garcia on His 80th Birthday! Monday, August 1, 2022

Good Morning, Deadheads! Today we celebrate what would be Jerry Garcia’s 80th birthday with a little Grateful Dead and some ‘live’ Jerry Garcia Band later! It’s Monday, so we start off somewhere between heaven and hell. (Mostly hell.)

Here’s your Monday musical lineup:

11:00 a.m. Between Heaven & Hell: Various Artists

We haven’t broken this one out in a while. We give you songs with references to heaven and/or hell in the title, lyrics or both. You’ll hear Donovan, The Eagles, Led Zeppelin, The Byrds, ZZ Top, Van Morrison, Lucinda Williams, Elvis Presley, Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, Fats Domino, Foo Fighters, The Grateful Dead, Townes Van Zandt, Emmylou Harris, The Grass Roots, The Rolling Stones, Stevie Wonder, Steve Winwood, Maria Muldaur, Roberta Flack, Bruce Hornsby, The Ozark Mountain Daredevils and more!

3:00 p.m. In The Spotlight: The Best of The Grateful Dead

We’re dusting off this one as well as we give you the best of the Dead’s studio work, often underappreciated because they were such a great jam band.

7:00 p.m. Jerry Garcia Band Live at The Roseland Ballroom, New York, June 1, 1983 NEW!

This is brand new to the station, and we’ve decided that it’s only fitting that we premier this on what would be Jerry Garcia’s 80th birthday.

Join us today as we celebrate Jerry Garcia’s musical life. It was immense, and he left us all far too soon. But his music lives on, particularly here in The Mermaid Lounge.
