Probably the most iconic album released during the Summer of Love phase was this brilliant effort by The Beatles. They would follow this up later with Magical Mystery Tour, but this one was a tough act to follow.

Elvis Aaron Presley, known simply as Elvis, passed away at Graceland 43 years ago yesterday. Elvis was the inspiration for many of the musicians we are celebrating on this radio station. And that’s why we celebrate him today.

7:00 p.m.     The Summer of Love Playlist, Volume 1

There were many players during the Summer of Love, and many may not make it to the spotlight. Nevertheless, they gave us some great music. Hear The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Cream, Scott McKenzie, The Strawberry Alarm Clock, The Association, Donovan, Marvin Gaye, The Lovin’ Spoonful, Paul Revere & The Raiders, The Electric Prunes, Procol Harum, and many more!

5:00 p.m.    The Beatles: The Transformative Years   NEW!

This is the most amazing period in The Beatles’ musical journey. Beginning with Rubber Soul and Revolver, they seemed to just explode into a level of creativity that had never happened before, and has yet to be equalled by any band. 

10:00 p.m.  Live Dead! The Grateful Dead: Live at The San Francisco Civic Auditorium, December 28. 1983   NEW!

Another fine live entry by the ultimate jam band.

12:00 p.m.   Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers 30th Anniversary Concert: Live From The Stephen J. O’Connell Center, Gainesville, Florida, September 21, 2006  NEW!

Undoubtedly one of the most amazing live performances in Tom Petty & The Heartbreaker’s concert history. The band is joined on stage for several songs by Stevie Nicks. Musically, the band is on top of its game, and Mike Campbell’s guitar is blistering.

4:00 p.m.    Album of the Week: Sargeant Pepper’s Lonely Heart’s Club Band by The Beatles NEW!

This album changed everything. It was a first for many, many reasons. It was the music world’s first “concept” album, fully launching The Beatles into a new realm of psychedelic music. It was the first album to feature an expanded cover with the lyrics to the songs in print. 

Sargeant Pepper’s Lonely Heart’s Club Band was The Beatles’ 8th studio album, released on May 26, 1967 in the UK, and June 2, 1967 in the U.S. It spent 27 weeks in the number one position on the UK charts, and 15 weeks at number one on Billboard. It received four Grammy Awards in 1968, including Album of the Year, the first rock album to receive this honor.
