7:00 p.m. Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers Recorded Live at WTTW Television Studios for PBS Sound Stage, Chicago, IL, 2003

This is an amazing live performance by The Heartbreakers who bring their A-Game to the show, covering some great blues classics in tribute to the foundations of rock n’ roll, as well as giving us their original work. Not to be missed.

Enjoy the last day of this long weekend and add some great music to the mix. We’re on 24/7 and we’re totally free of charge. No strings. No lie. See for yourself.

Heading Down the Week’s Home Stretch We’ve Got Some Great Heartbreakers, Paul Simon In the Spotlight, and Our AOW, Thursday, October 14, 2021

Good Morning, Pettyologists! We’re still in the midst of Tom Petty Month here in The Mermaid Lounge, and we’ve got a great selection for you today for sure!

Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers on WTTW’s Sound Stage in Chicago

Here’s today’s line-up:

11:00 a.m. In The Spotlight: The Music of Paul Simon

October is a busy month for the favorites of The Mermaid Lounge. John Lennon and Jackson Browne were both born October 9. Petty’s birthday is coming up October 20. And yesterday, Paul Simon turned 80 years old. Today we put Paul Simon In the Spotlight with music from his Simon & Garfunkel days as well as from his solo career. Happy Belated Birthday, Paul. We’re sometimes a day late, but never a dollar short.

3:00 p.m. Album of The Week: Excitable Boy by Warren Zevon

Our second-to-last airing is today, with our final airing coming on Saturday. Get in on it while you can. There is not one throw-away song on this album, and some of the biggest names in music history join Zevon on his quest, like Jackson Browne (producer), Linda Ronstadt, J.D. Souther, Leland Sklar, Russ Kunkel, Bob Glaub, Danny Korchmar, and more!

7:00 p.m. WTTW Presents Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers on Sound Stage, April 19, 2003

This may well be a more controlled environment than the usual Heartbreakers’ live turn, but it’s no less amazing a performance. Both Tom Petty and the band are at the top of their game here, singing their hits, some deep cuts, plus a few surprises. Tune it in, folks.

We motor along here pushing through the work week one musical day at a time. Tomorrow is Friday, the start to our weekend (musically speaking, that is), and our programming tomorrow will leave you black and blue. And that’s all we’re going to say about that. Patience is a virtue.
