Another repeat, but it was last aired in early 2020, so it’s like new. As is every performance by the world’s preeminent jam band. We’re working on new material going forward, but this is a great soundboard recording.

This is the place to be today. There is a lot of great music in both the programming and the open stream, and you’ll be under the mesmerizing control of The Music Mermaid. That is significantly better than being under the control of Donald Trump. I think we can all agree on that. We’re totally free. If you’re a Pettyhead, and I am, you learned yesterday that there is a new piece of musical magic coming from beyond life on this earth. On November 25, Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers Live at The Fillmore box set will be released. Yes, our order is already in, folks and we eagerly anticipate delivery. However, we do have a previous release from that residency that’s pretty special and we are airing it here to day in celebration and anticipation!

4:00 p.m. Album of The Week: Sunshine Superman by Donovan

We’re on our next-to-last airing here. This is Donovan at his most psychedelic as we continue our obsession with psychedelic music this month. Who knows where this will go next, but get this one in. Our final airing will be sometime on Saturday.

Yes, the complete concert is here for your listening pleasure. It isn’t lengthy, but it is pretty fantastic, and it is the final live performance from the fab four before the split. We think it’s fitting that we open and close our programming today with our two House Bands. We’ve got a bit more in the hopper from them as the week progresses.

This is a great day to tune us in. What could be better? We’ve got The Beatles and Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers together on the same day, and both are ‘live’ performances. Yeah, I’d say that’s a reason to join your friends from around the globe.

He’s a Mermaid Lounge favorite for sure, and you will hear him this afternoon.

Released in 1966, this is Donovan’s most psychedelic album. It includes the iconic single Sunshine Superman, along with The Trip (no explanation required), his tribute to Jefferson Airplane with Fat Angel (which the Airplane later covered) and Season of The Witch, one of my all-time favorite songs. We’re traveling on this one for a week.

This is your day to tune in, turn on and drop out. It’s Sunday, a day of rest and relaxation. Take advantage of the good vibes by turning into a great radio station. This was the debut album by Roberta Flack, released on June 20, 1969, and is considered by many to be one of the top soul and R & B albums of all time. In 2020, Rolling Stone ranked the album at no. 451 on its 500 Greatest Albums of All Time list. We tend to agree here in The Mermaid Lounge. The album includes First Time Ever I Saw Your Face which was propelled to number one in the U.S. (on the Billboard album chart and the Billboard R & B album chart) with its inclusion in the great Clint Eastwood film, Play Misty For Me. It is our Album of The Week.

Yes, not to be confused with Ladies Day Out, which is an all-female EP. This EP focuses on songs about women, ladies, girls like Martha (My Dear), She (who came from the land of the cotton), and Foxey (but remember, she was a lady). Good Morning, Musicologists! It’s another keep-it-simple Sunday with Ram as our Album of The Week and Volume Two of our ‘Sixties Rotation.’

Here’s today’s musical lineup:

11:00 a.m. Album of The Week: Ram by Paul & Linda McCartney NEW!

This is the only album ever attributed to the McCartney husband and wife team, and it’s one of my favorites. I remember playing the grooves out of this thing when it first came out. The album generated McCartney’s first number one U.S. single as a former Beatle with Uncle Albert/ Admiral Halsey. McCartney was in a very public feud with his former mates at the time and was subject to much criticism, but eventually Ram became one of McCartney’s most critically-acclaimed solo albums. It was also recognized as an early indie pop album. While we don’t give you the full 2012 expanded release here, we are including two extra songs that were part of the Ram sessions: Another Day and Oh Woman, Oh Why.
