Today We’ve Got Our ‘Travelin’ Fever’ EP, With Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young Live From Wembley Later, Friday, April 8, 2022

Good Morning, Road Warriors! Today we’ve got our Travelin’ Fever multi-artist EP up first, with some live Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young a bit later.

Here’s today’s line-up:

10:00 a.m. Travelin’ Fever: Various Artists

This one’s a bit different than yesterday’s ‘On The Map’ although some elements certainly are the same. This is more about hitting the road than locations with Canned Heat, Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, Creedence Clearwater Revival, the Steve Miller Band, Dan Fogelberg, Jackson Browne, Bonnie Raitt, Led Zeppelin, The Doors, The Eagles, Little Feat, The Band, Bruce Springsteen, Willie Nelson, Edwin Starr, Janis Joplin, The Traveling Wilburys, Asleep At The Wheel, The Byrds, Mudcrutch, and more!

7:00 a.m. Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young Live at Wembley Stadium, London, November 4, 1974

My second favorite supergroup right here, right behind The Traveling Wilburys. They were always an adventure, so they should have been called Crosby, Stills, Nash & (Sometimes) Young. But their music is timeless in all their iterations.

Tune us in, folks. We are up and running 24/7 totally free of charge and totally free of commercial advertising. What more could you possibly ask for. Maybe that we play rap and hip & hop, but that’s not going to happen either.

We’ve Hit Friday and We’re ‘Under The Influence’ During The Day, and Partying With The Heartbreakers Later, March 18, 2022

Good Morning, Musicologists! Well, we’ve made it to the end of the work week (for most) and we’ve got a great musical line up for you today that starts with our ‘Under The Influence’ EP!

The caterpillar knew where it was at. He was ‘Under the Influence.’

Here’s today’s line-up:

11:00 a.m. Under The Influence: Various Artists

Yeah. We have all been here at one time or another, haven’t we? I mean, if we are being honest about shit. Whether it’s martinis, hooch, or hallucinogens, at one time or another we’ve indulged. And musicians have been singing about it for decades. You’ll hear The Doors, The Byrds, Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, Arlo Guthrie, Donovan, Glenn Frey, Linda Ronstadt, Jonathan Edwards, Small Faces, The Rolling Stones, The Jimi Hendrix Experience, Pink Floyd, The Beatles, The Velvet Underground, Jackson Browne, Harry Chapin, Emmylou Harris, The Band, Bob Dylan, Eric Burdon & War, Bob Marley & The Wailers, Neil Young, The Fraternity of Man, and more!

7:00 p.m. Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers: Petty Theft

If you’ve ever listened to Tom Petty’s Buried Treasure Show on Sirius-XM, you know where The Heartbreakers’ musical DNA comes from. One of the greatest rock n’ roll bands in the world is also one of the best damned cover bands on the planet. Tom Petty loved adding songs to The Heartbreakers’ live performances that paid homage to those whose music inspired them. This is one of our favorite playlists here in The Mermaid Lounge: The Heartbreakers as cover band. We’re sure you’ll love it too.

Yeah, folks, this is the day to tune us in. We’ve got some great music for you today, as we do every day, but this is certainly one of my favorite musical combinations of the programming realm. And before, after, and in between our programming, we give you that wide Open Stream 24/7. For free. Get in on it.

We Spend Saturday With the Musicians of Laurel Canyon, Say Goodbye To “Meet The Beatles” and Hear LIVE DEAD! Later, February 26, 2022

Good Morning, Weekenders! We’ve got them on from all around the globe this morning, but our friends in Germany are far and away the most populous. We’ve got a great Saturday of programming lined up, so let’s not waste any time.

Today we spend time with the musical pioneers of the Laurel Canyon scene.

Here’s today’s musical landscape:

11:00 a.m. Music From Laurel Canyon: Various Artists

For two generations of musicians (the 60s and 70s), Laurel Canyon was the place to be. It was a commune of creative activity, with all of these guys feeding off each other musically to create some of the most amazing sounds and songs in popular music history. You’ll hear The Byrds, Buffalo Springfield, The Doors, The Mamas & The Papas, The Monkees, The Lovin’ Spoonful, Jackson Browne, Joni Mitchell, CSNY, Neil Young, Manassas, John Mayall, The Eagles, Linda Ronstadt, J.D. Souther, Bonnie Raitt, Canned Heat, The Eagles, Carole King, Joni Mitchell, James Taylor and more! This is just about five hours of uninterrupted music.

7:00 p.m. Album of The Week: Meet The Beatles by The Beatles FINAL AIRING!

We bid a fond farewell today to our Album of The Week, what I call the musical shot heard ’round the world. During his Musicares speech in 2017, Mr. Petty said when he heard The Beatles for the first time he had his eyes opened, like everybody else. We agree. Tomorrow, however, we will have a new selection.

10:00 p.m. LIVE DEAD! The Grateful Dead Live at The Fillmore East, New York, January 2, 1970 NEW!

We have featured several of The Dead’s road performances from the Fillmore West, but this is our first airing of a show from The Fillmore East, a venue that certainly doesn’t get as much attention as it’s West Coast counterpart, but a great venue that hosted some amazing acts as well. It was part of that cross-pollination project. This is another new soundboard recording. Enjoy.

Saturday is always a good day here in The Mermaid Lounge. This one is no exception. Hey, I have to serve the retail masses, but we’ve got you covered. Neither rain, nor sleet, nor snow, nor retail will break our stride. The Music Mermaid is in charge, baby, and she’s on top of this shit. So, tune us in. You don’t need a subscription or a credit card or anything else. Just a computer.

7:00 p.m. In The Spotlight: The Music of Paul McCartney

And we’re unlike any other radio station on the planet. See for yourself.

Heading Toward The Weekend, We’ve Got Songs About Luck and Chance, America In The Spotlight, and Our AOW, On Thursday, February 3, 2022

Good Morning, Early Risers! We’ve got some great stuff on tap today as we slide on down toward the weekend, including songs about good luck, bad luck, and just pure dumb luck.

Today’s musical line-up. In a nutshell.

Here are all the details on today’s line-up:

11:00 a.m. Good Luck, Bad Luck, Dumb Luck: Various Artists UPDATED!

We were on a roll here last night and added a few more songs to the list of songs about good luck, bad luck, and just pure dumb luck. You’ll hear Alison Krauss & Union Station, Bonnie Raitt, Linda Ronstadt, The Rolling Stones, Joe Walsh, Emerson, Lake & Palmer, Bruce Springsteen, Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, Bob Dylan, Sheryl Crow, Paul McCartney (with and without Wings), Cream, The Byrds, Mary Chapin Carpenter, and more!

3:00 p.m. Album of The Week: Sticky Fingers by The Rolling Stones

Time for my Thursday mantra: Time’s getting short on this one. The final airing will be on Saturday, so get it in while you can! On Sunday, we’ve got a brand new selection to unveil.

7:00 p.m. In the Spotlight: The Music of America

Like all bands, the story of America doesn’t just lie in their “hits.” Those are the songs that the record company knows will certainly sell. The success of those songs also gives bands the creative license they need to produce great work. America is no exception. People refer to their stuff as soft rock, and I guess that’s one term. This band was so much more. For me, they are more along the folk-rock line, with unbelievable melodies and harmonies, and pretty fair songwriting. They’re up In The Spotlight tonight.

Come on, folks. Tune us in. We don’t even charge you. We’re in this for the music, and the music alone. And frankly, if nobody listened, I’d still be doing this. It’s my personal project. I’m sharing my music collection. Just push play. Okay?

We Hit Our Midweek Stride With ‘Music From Laurel Canyon’ and Emmylou Harris & Spyboy ‘Live’ Later, Wednesday, January 26, 2022

Good Morning, Musicologists. We’ve got a pretty damned good line-up scheduled for today starting with those sweet Laurel Canyon sounds.

We’ve got that sweet Laurel Canyon sound today!

Here’s today’s musical landscape:

11:00 a.m. Music From Laurel Canyon: Various Artists

Laurel Canyon was musical paradise for two generations of innovators, and was a hotbed for the fusion that brought us country-rock, and inspired this great EP to get you through the midweek. The musicians who lived and played there, fed off each other creatively. Rumor has it that everyone loved partying with The Monkees. You’ll hear The Byrds, Buffalo Springfield, The Mamas & The Papas, The Doors, The Monkees, The Lovin’ Spoonful, Jackson Browne, Joni Mitchell, CSNY, Neil Young, Manassas, John Mayall, The Eagles, Linda Ronstadt, Bonnie Raitt, Canned Heat, J.D. Souther, Carole King, James Taylor, America, and more!

7:00 p.m. Emmylou Harris & Spyboy Live at Kongresshaus, Zurich, Switzerland, January 20, 1977

We go on the road with Emmylou Harris & Spyboy for the Wrecking Ball tour, what many consider Harris’ career-redefining album produced by Daniel Lanois. She took a minimalist approach with her band, bringing it back to basics. Spyboy consisted of country singer-songwriter Buddy Miller on guitar, and two New Orleans musicians, Daryl Johnson on bass and Brady Blade on drums. As it turns out, Wrecking Ball is one of my all-time favorite Emmylou Harris albums.

Before, in between, and after we give you wide Open Stream on a 24/7 basis. We never stop, unless there is some kind of unfortunate Internet event. We haven’t had one yet. All you need to do is pull up a tab and press play.

Today We’ve Got New ‘Live’ Dr. John, Wendy Waldman In the Spotlight, and Drivin’ Songs Later, Monday, January 17, 2022

Good Morning, Music Lovers! It’s pouring rain and incredibly windy here in the Beantown area this morning. Makes me want to hunker down and listen to this great music we’ve planned.

We’ve got some great, live Dr. John music for you today from Ultrasonic Studios in New York!

Here’s Monday’s line-up:

11:00 a.m. Dr. John Live at Ultrasonic Studios, Hempstead, New York, November 6, 1973 NEW!

A great 20-song performance New Orleans’ Nitetripper, broadcast live by WLIR-FM in Long Island. This was when FM radio was king and we had all those great simulcast events going on. You’ll be seeing more of these as we move through 2022, but do not miss this one today. Dr. John is a NOLA legend.

3:00 p.m. In the Spotlight: The Music of Wendy Waldman

Not only is Wendy Waldman a critically-acclaimed recording artists, she’s also recognized as a writer of multi-platinum songs for other artists, a producer, a teacher, and a working musician. In the early 70s, when folk-rock was coming into focus, she started a band called Bryndle with fellow artists Karla Bonoff, Kenny Edwards, and Andrew Gold. They made one unreleased album, and then went their separate ways. The rest, as they say, is musical history. Wendy Waldman went on to make several great albums. She became friends with Linda Ronstadt, singing back up on several songs and going on tour with Ronstadt. Karla Bonoff made her mark as a songwriter, while Kenny Edwards and Andrew Gold joined Linda Ronstadt. I consider Wendy Waldman one of the most underappreciated figures in popular music. Listen and you will too.

7:00 p.m. Drivin’ Songs: Various Artists

Driving and music somehow just go together, and I admit that many of the songs on this particular playlist give me ‘lead foot’ when I’m on the open road. I really do have to be careful when I’m cruisin’ and playin’ the radio with no particular place to go. You’ll see what I mean when you hear the Doobie Brothers, Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, The Grateful Dead, The Eagles, Emmylou Harris, Van Morrison, Chuck Berry, The Kinks, Gladys Knight & The Pips, Mudcrutch, Canned Heat, The Pretenders, The Byrds, Deep Purple, The Guess Who, Golden Earring, Little Feat, Bruce Springsteen, Linda Ronstadt and many more.

The beginning of a new week is upon us, and great music always makes a Monday a bit easier to take. We’re here 24/7, totally free, I promise. No endless DJ chatter. No credit card required. Do it.

We’ve Got Both The Byrds and Bob Marley & The Wailers Live Today, and Our Album of The Week, Thursday, December 2, 2021

Good Morning, Musicologists! We’re edging closer to the weekend and we’ve got a couple of great live performances here today, as we also wind down on this week’s AOW.

We’ve got some Byrds live for you today!

Here’s your Thursday line-up:

11:00 a.m. The Byrds Live at Royal Albert Hall, London, May 13, 1971

We’ve got one we haven’t aired in quite a while here, and we here in The Mermaid Lounge are looking forward to hearing it again. Luckily, for us, we are the management today at work and will have #BecomeUngovernable Radio tuned in throughout the store today!

3:00 p.m. Album of The Week: Rising Sons featuring Taj Mahal and Ry Cooder

We’re winding down on this one. This is our next-to-last airing of this gem that managed to spawn two of the most innovative musicians of their generation. Give it a listen.

7:00 p.m. Bob Marley & The Wailers Live at The Record Plant, Sausalito, California, October 13, 1973 NEW!

We’ve got a brand new airing here for you today from Bob Marley & The Wailers, and it’s a good one. Don’t let this one pass you by!

Again, we’ve got our usual international conglomeration of Mermaid loungers on this morning, You should join the crowd! There are no costs, and never any hidden fees or agendas. It’s all about the music with us. That’s the whole truth and nothing but the truth. If you try us, you’ll see we don’t lie.

It’s an Eclectic Monday Here in The Mermaid Lounge with The Beach Boys, Some Great R & B, and The World Between Heaven & Hell, November 22, 2021

Good Morning, Musicologists! We’ve got a rather eclectic line-up for you all today as we kick off another work week, albeit a rather short one with the Thanksgiving Holidays coming up.

We put The Beach Boys In the Spotlight today!

Here’s your Moan-Day line-up:

11:00 a.m. In the Spotlight: The Music of The Beach Boys

It took me a long time to come around to The Beach Boys. It wasn’t until I heard people like Linda Ronstadt and Paul McCartney call Brian Wilson a musical genius that I started paying attention, and I realized they were right. Today we put them In the Spotlight so we can hear their blend of pop, rock, surf, and psychedelia.

3:00 p.m. DJ’s Choice: My Favorite R & B Stream

I probably would have about fifteen different R & B streams with different songs on each one if given the opportunity. But I don’t give myself that opportunity. On this one you’ll hear Al Green, Ray Charles, Curtis Mayfield, The Four Tops, Sam Cooke, The Staple Singers, Sam & Dave, Gladys Knight & The Pips, James Brown, Booker T & The MGs, Wilson Pickett, Jackie Wilson, Jimmy Ruffin and more!

7:00 p.m. Between Heaven & Hell: Various Artists

This was a fun one. Songs with references to either heaven or hell (or both) in either the lyrics or title (or both). Confused yet? Well, then tune this one in and hear Donovan, The Eagles, Led Zeppelin, The Byrds, ZZ Top, Van Morrison, Lucinda Williams, Elvis Presley, Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, Fats Domino, Foo Fighters, The Grateful Dead, and more!

Come on by. People from Denmark, Norway, Switzerland, the UK, France, Germany, Italy, Ireland, Australia, Japan, Russian Federation, Canada, and points beyond are already tuned in and enjoying the sounds! You can too. For free. Every single day.
