Another Simply Sunday Brings Our AOW by Loggins & Messina and the ‘What’s In a Name’ Multi-Artist EP, January 7, 2024

Yes, I will admit that there are times when I’m still writing ‘2023’ on stuff but, in spite of my encroaching old age, I’m doing better than I was last year at this time! (And that’s a good sign.)

Here’s your Sunday funday lineup:

I have a lot of fond musical memories of these guys; put simply, they just made some great music. This was originally intended as a Loggins solo album, but Jim Messina was brought in as the producer and started writing some songs, playing instruments and singing background. The original (correct) title is Kenny Loggins with Jim Messina Sittin’ In, by the way. However, after that? They became Loggins & Messina and put out a string of great albums. We’ve got one today.

3:00 p.m.  What’s In a Name: Various Artists

An EP with names in songs. You know, like Ode to Billie Joe. Or Alison. Or Gloria. There are many, and we’ve got a bunch from The Beatles, Stevie Wonder, Them, Janis Joplin, Simon & Garfunkel, The Beach Boys, Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, Jimi Hendrix Experience, Donovan, Steve Winwood, Bonnie Raitt, Shawn Colvin, Carly Simon, Warren Zevon, Laura Nyro, Bobbie Gentry, The Kinks, Three Dog Night and many more!

Thursday Brings Our New ‘What’s In a Name’ multi-artist EP, Crosby, Stills & Nash With Our AOW, and Emmylou Harris & Spyboy in Concert, June 1, 2023

Good morning, music lovers! We’re moving toward the weekend and today we’ve got our newest EP called ‘What’s In a Name’ to kick things off. But there’s more! Read on!

Here’s your musical lineup:

9:00 a.m. What’s In a Name: Various Artists

There are more songs than I ever thought with names mentioned in them. I guess you don’t realize it until you start to compile a playlist! Many are people concocted from a great imagination, but some are real as well. It was fun putting this one together. You’ll hear from Stevie Wonder, The Beatles, Them, Janis Joplin, Simon & Garfunkel, The Beach Boys, Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, the Jimi Hendrix Experience, Donovan, Steve Winwood, Bonnie Raitt, Shawn Colvin, Carly Simon, Warren Zevon, Laura Nyro, Bobbie Gentry, The Kinks, Three Dog Night, The Association, Joni Mitchell, Badfinger, Linda Ronstadt, Steely Dan, Chi Coltrane, Bob Dylan, Rod Stewart, James Taylor, Tony Joe White, Bob Dylan and more!

4:00 p.m. Album of The Week: Crosby, Stills & Nash by Crosby, Stills & Nash

We’re winding down on this one. The final airing will be sometime on Saturday. On Sunday, we’ll have a brand new album for you. In the meantime, don’t miss this one!

7:00 p.m. Emmylou Harris & Spyboy Live at Kongresshaus, Zurich, Switzerland, January 20, 1997

Emmylou Harris never, ever disappoints. She has been a stalwart of the country music industry for decades and has refused to be tied down to any one style. With her band Spyboy, she gets back to basics with a stripped-down approach to her music. This was a great period in her career.

We’re edging our way closer to the weekend, kids. No reason why you can’t enjoy yourselves on the journey. Great music will help you get there in style. We’re on 24/7 and we’re totally free. We also never accept commercial advertising.

We Debut Our New ‘What’s In A Name’ EP, Give You Lukas Nelson & POTR, and Some ‘Live’ Joni Mitchell Later on Monday, May 1, 2023

Welcome to a brand new month! Today we debut a new EP we didn’t even realize we had, give you Willie’s boy at mid-afternoon, and close out with Joni Mitchell later.

Here’s your Monday, Monday music:

9:00 a.m. What’s In a Name: Various Artists NEW!

We’ve played this song before, but we didn’t realize how many hours of music this amounted to, so it becomes an official EP this morning! You’ll hear Them, The Velvet Underground, Neil Diamond, The Band, Linda Ronstadt, The Kinks, Steely Dan, Buddy Holly, Janis Joplin, Donovan, Carly Simon, Shawn Colvin, Warren Zevon, Emmylou Harris, Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, The Beatles, Jonathan Edwards, John Lennon, Chuck Berry and more!

3:00 p.m. In The Spotlight: Lukas Nelson & Promise of The Real

It’s been a spell since we’ve heard from these guys and this playlist is probably in need of an updating, which we shall undertake soon. But in the meantime, we’ve got them In the Spotlight at mid-afternoon today.

8:00 p.m. Joni Mitchell Live at Carnegie Hall, New York, February 3, 1973

We close out the programming on Monday with some great live Joni Mitchell from Carnegie Hall at the beginning of her illustrious career. She is a musical treasure who refuses to be defined by any one genre. Enjoy.

Hey, it’s Monday and by all measures, all Mondays are tough. Why not improve your situation with some great music? We’ve got it here for you courtesy of The Music Mermaid, your constant companion.

Good Morning, Musicologists! The great mix continues today, as we gear up for the winter months here on the East Coast. We’ve got some fun here today as Petty Month winds down.

Just perfect for today’s programming.

Here’s what’s on tap for today:

12:00 p.m. Deb’s Stream: What’s in a Name? Various Artists

This is just a great playlist that’s like Open Stream for namedroppers. Not a bad song in the lot, and a lot of fun.

Some of the namedroppers are Linda Ronstadt, The Beatles, The Beach Boys, The Daywalkers, The Who, Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, Chuck Berry, Bonnie Raitt, CSNY, The Rolling Stones, Badfinger and so many more!

7:00 p.m. Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers: The Bootleg Series, Volume 2 NEW!

We have volume two from the years 1976-1981 as part of our Bootleg Series today. There are some things you otherwise may not hear in this lot. We just live for this stuff here in The Mermaid Lounge.

We have many new live performances coming up for the winter months here by Tom Petty and others as well. Come the first week in November, you’ll see our winter programming begin to evolve. The one constant? The music. Uninterrupted by advertising or chatter and at no cost to you. It’s a labor of love. I am sharing my personal record collection with you all. Right now, it’s 2,600 songs and counting, built over many years of collecting.
