We return with our TP Month special today and give you some vintage ‘live’ Linda Ronstadt circa 1974. In between, Dr. John gives us some psychedelic voodoo.

Here’s today’s musical lineup:
11:00 a.m. Linda Ronstadt Live at My Father’s Place at The Roslyn Hotel, Roslyn, New York, July 21, 1974
This popular Long Island music venue was a decades-long influence on the music world with many artists passing through its doors. Linda Ronstadt was one of them on her journey to becoming the Queen of Rock in the seventies. We have her 1974 show from that venue today.
3:00 p.m. Album of The Week: Gris-Gris by Dr. John
This album has been described as New Orleans R & B meets Psychedelic Voodoo, and we here in The Mermaid Lounge think that’s a pretty accurate description. Hear it for yourself today!
7:00 p.m. Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers Live at The Paradise, Boston, MA, July 16, 1978
This was the very first time I was introduced to Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers ‘live’ anywhere. I spent a lot of my formative years at The Paradise, but this one show stands out quite clearly all these years later. Today we give you the show as it was recorded for airing on Boston’s famous WBCN 104.1 FM radio station (another staple of my youth). This show was in support of the band’s album, You’re Gonna’ Get It.
Come on, folks. It doesn’t get any better than this: Ronstadt and Petty on the same day? Great day to step out of that musical shell and tune us in. We’re totally free. Tune us in and out at any time with no “subscription” requirement. No money changes hands. You’re money is absolutely no good here.
