We close out today’s Tuesday Bluesday programming with a guy who left us much too soon. Stevie Ray Vaughan was, without a doubt, one of the greatest masters of blues guitar and one dominant presence on stage. See for yourself tonight.

Tuesday Bluesday generally brings out a lot of listeners, but we’re not concerned with numbers here because this is a labor of musical love. We do not charge for you to listen…no ‘subscription’ required here. That means you never have to divulge your personal information or give us a credit card number. Dr. John, a Mermaid Lounge Favorite, is back to take the spotlight today. We just got hold of his new album, recorded just before he passed, and we’ll be featuring it soon. In the meantime, tune in The Nitetripper for a real treat. This guy is an American treasure.

3:00 p.m. Bob Marley & The Wailers Live at The Beacon Theater, New York, May 1, 1976

Bob Marley takes the band on the road for the Rastaman Vibration tour, and we bring you the Beacon Theater performance today.

7:00 p.m. Warren Zevon Live at Club Metro, Boston, MA, September 29, 1982

Our second ‘live’ performance today is from Warren Zevon, a self-destructive soul for sure, but one of the finest singer-songwriters of any generation.

No better way to start the week than by tuning in the finest radio station on the planet. Just give us a listen, and we’ll prove it to you. It’s Sunday and We’ve Got The Temptations With Our New AOW and ‘The British Are Coming’ EP, September 25, 2022

Good Morning, Music Lovers! We continue our psychedelic album parade today with The Temptations and take a trip across the pond with ‘The British Are Coming,” an EP with music from the British Invasion and beyond!

11:00 a.m. Album of The Week: Cloud Nine by The Temptations NEW!

Released in 1969, this album was a turning point for both Motown and The Temptations as they not only added singer Dennis Edwards to replace the departing David Ruffin, and began a partnership with visionary writer-producer Norman Whitfield. Although at least half of the album is in the traditional Temptations R & B style, they began their journey into Psychedelic Soul with the song Cloud Nine and it’s great wah-wah guitar intro courtesy of Dennis Coffey, and especially with Runaway Child, Running Wild.

3:00 p.m. The British Are Coming: Various Artists

We go back to the sixties British Invasion here, but we do not stop there as we include music from our friends across the pond that spans a couple more generations (we’re very selective, however). Another repeat, but it was last aired in early 2020, so it’s like new. As is every performance by the world’s preeminent jam band. We’re working on new material going forward, but this is a great soundboard recording.

On November 25, Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers Live at The Fillmore box set will be released. Yes, our order is already in, folks and we eagerly anticipate delivery. However, we do have a previous release from that residency that’s pretty special and we are airing it here to day in celebration and anticipation!

4:00 p.m. Album of The Week: Sunshine Superman by Donovan

We’re on our next-to-last airing here. This is Donovan at his most psychedelic as we continue our obsession with psychedelic music this month. Who knows where this will go next, but get this one in. Our final airing will be sometime on Saturday.

Yes, the complete concert is here for your listening pleasure. It isn’t lengthy, but it is pretty fantastic, and it is the final live performance from the fab four before the split. We think it’s fitting that we open and close our programming today with our two House Bands. We’ve got a bit more in the hopper from them as the week progresses.

This is a great day to tune us in. What could be better? We’ve got The Beatles and Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers together on the same day, and both are ‘live’ performances. Yeah, I’d say that’s a reason to join your friends from around the globe.

We here in the lounge consider Taj Mahal a national treasure. I’ll never forget my 2014 trip to New Orleans and the photo I took of a great Taj Mahal mural in the box office at the House of Blues. But I digress. Taj Mahal is not only a great bluesman, but he’s a multi-instrumentalist who plays guitar, piano, banjo, harmonica and a bunch of other instruments. He has been instrumental in expanding the scope of the blues by incorporating elements of world music in his creative efforts.

3:00 p.m. Album of The Week: Sunshine Superman by Donovan

The only break in our blues programming comes mid-afternoon when we take a short trip to the land of psychedelic music with Donovan’s Sunshine Superman, our Album of The Week.

After The Band was no more, Rick Danko teamed up with Paul Butterfield and toured as the blues-rock Danko/Butterfield Band. They went on the road together, and this performance is from The Blue Note in Boulder.

He’s a Mermaid Lounge favorite for sure, and you will hear him this afternoon.

Released in 1966, this is Donovan’s most psychedelic album. It includes the iconic single Sunshine Superman, along with The Trip (no explanation required), his tribute to Jefferson Airplane with Fat Angel (which the Airplane later covered) and Season of The Witch, one of my all-time favorite songs. We’re traveling on this one for a week.
