Emmylou Harris never, ever disappoints. She has been a stalwart of the country music industry for decades and has refused to be tied down to any one style. With her band Spyboy, she gets back to basics with a stripped-down approach to her music. This was a great period in her career.

We’re edging our way closer to the weekend, kids. No reason why you can’t enjoy yourselves on the journey. Great music will help you get there in style. We’re on 24/7 and we’re totally free. We also never accept commercial advertising.

On This Keep-It-Simple Sunday It’s Crosby, Stills & Nash With the AOW, and Volume Two of ‘The Sixties Rotation’ EP, May 28, 2023

Sundays are simple: A couple of programs and a lot of wide Open Stream. Today is no exception in spite of the long weekend.

Here’s your musical lineup:

11:00 a.m. Album of The Week: Crosby, Stills & Nash by Crosby, Stills & Nash NEW!

One of the great musical supergroups released this album in May of 1969, and it elevated them to instant stardom. This would be the only album released before they added Neil Young to the group. It spawned two Top 40 hits in Marrakesh Express and Suite: Judy Blue Eyes (for Judy Collins), but every song on this album became a CSN classic. It also shifted the music world from strictly blues-based music played on loud guitars and introduced the folk-rock sound. They opened the door for others playing the same genre.

3:00 p.m. The Sixties Rotation, Volume Two: Various Artists

The second volume focuses on the mid-to-late sixties with The Mamas & The Papas, Simon & Garfunkel, Smokey Robinson & The Miracles, Jefferson Airplane, Grateful Dead, Buffalo Springfield, Sly & The Family Stone, The Temptations, The Beach Boys, The Rolling Stones, The Beatles, The Who, Roy Orbison, Linda Ronstadt, The Byrds, Chuck Berry, James Brown, Blind Faith, The Spencer Davis Group, Elvis Presley, The Box Tops, The Doors, Marvin Gaye, B. B. King, Led Zeppelin, Wilson Pickett, The Band, Bob Dylan, Judy Collins, The Ronettes, The Kinks, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Jimmy Cliff, Velvet Underground, Jimi Hendrix Experience and more!

What better way to celebrate the first official weekend of summer than with great music. We’ve got it here for you today uninterrupted by commercial advertising and chatty DJ’s. And best of all, no credit card or subscription is required.

The Big Summer Weekend is Here With Buffalo Springfield, The Beatles Top 100, and Guy Clark Later, Saturday, May 27, 2023

Happy Memorial Day Weekend, musicologists! We have excellent music lined up for you today as we get into the first official weekend of the summer season!

Here’s your Saturday lineup:

9:00 a.m. Album of The Week: Buffalo Springfield by Buffalo Springfield FINAL AIRING!

Today we bid a fond farewell to Buffalo Springfield’s debut album as our Album of the Week. Tomorrow, we’ll have a brand new selection for you.

11:00 a.m. The Beatles: Top 100 Countdown

We aired this last year at this time and we repeat the process today as we pay homage to one of our House Bands, the band that changed everything from haircuts, to clothing styles and, most importantly, to music itself in just seven years together. There was never a band like them before, and we are still waiting for their equal. From our perspective, that day will never come.

8:00 p.m. Singer-Songwriter Series: The Music of Guy Clark NEW!

A Mermaid Lounge favorite for sure. On a freezing winter night in Harvard Square with my friends, we were looking for a break from the cold. We walked in to Passim’s Coffee House to warm up, sat down, and were treated to a very unexpected event. A singer-songwriter named Guy Clark was playing there live that night. We stuck around. It was an amazing revelation. We were certainly happy we did. The next day, I went out and bought everything I could find. Tonight, we introduce him as our featured singer-songwriter.

It’s a looong weekend, so kick your shoes off. We’ve got great music in store for you right through Monday. If you haven’t yet tuned us in, this would definitely be a good weekend to do it. We’re totally free 24/7, and we’re also totally free of commercial advertising. It’s just wall-to-wall music.
