Chicago “Live” at Tanglewood and Joni Mitchell “Live” in Cambridge For a New England Feel, and We Feature Two Albums Today, Tuesday, March 10, 2020

Good Morning, Ungovernables! Most of the time the way I choose stuff is serendipity. So it was this morning when I made these selections. I just realized both live performances were in Massachusetts, my home state.

Here’s Tuesday’s line-up:

Chicago Live at Tanglewood, Lenox, MA (1970)  NEW!

Undoubtedly, one of my favorite bands. That is, when Chicago was Terry Kath’s band, that breezy, innovative jazzy rock band. By the way, Terry Kath was a monster on that guitar. I’m not a fan of the Peter Cetera Chicago of the born-again elevator music rock genre. But this iteration of Chicago? Wow. They were awesome.

2:00 p.m.      Pink Floyd: Dark Side of the Moon

This album was released on this day in 1973, and proceeded to spend 741 weeks on the Billboard charts before falling off in 1988. In 1998, it was certified 15-times platinum, which means it sold 15 million copies. Although this was just our Album of the Week in January, we feel the need to pay it the respect it deserves on this anniversary.

5:00 p.m.      Joni Mitchell Live at Club 47, Cambridge, MA

Joni Mitchell wasn’t the only one to play here early on. Both Linda Ronstadt and Bonnie Raitt did also. By the time I was old enough to visit, it was called Passim’s. It was on a cold, snowy night that my friends and I went in for a drink and discovered Guy Clark. A great venue.

9:00 p.m.      Album of the Week: Blind Faith, by Blind Faith

The only album Blind Faith ever made is our actual Album of the Week this week.

The first and only album by this supergroup was released by Polydor Records in 1969. The band was made up of Eric Clapton and Ginger Baker from Cream, Steve Winwood of The Spencer Davis Group, and Rick Grech of Family.

Yeah, it’s Willie’s boy, and this is one sweet band. Promise of the Real is also Neil Young’s new road band. Don’t miss this.

10:00 p.m.    Live Dead: The Grateful Dead, Europe ’72, Newcastle (April 11, 1972)   NEW!

We continue on with the Europe ’72 tour this week. As I’ve said, the beauty of The Dead is that no two concerts ever sound the same…or even have the same songs!

I have found many who don’t recognize the name. But those of us who do understand why there’s a tribute album. Despite a troubled life. VanZandt was an influence on many and many have recorded his songs, including Emmylou Harris, Bob Dylan, Willie Nelson,  and Guy Clark.

Yeah, there was only one real Woodstock. We know that. However, Traffic and Steve Winwood are a staple here at #BecomeUngovernable Radio, no matter where they play.

Tom Petty wanted to make Mojo a blues album because he envisioned he and his bandmates as old men, sitting around together, playing and singing the blues. The Heartbreakers actually recorded a lot of blues tunes over their career. We decided to compile them for you.

We’re working our way through the full tour of Europe ’72.  We did do Wembley last week, but that was from April 7. The beauty of The Dead is that they never played the same show twice on a tour.

Good Morning, Ungovernables! We’re heading for Fat Tuesday as we begin our week-long tribute to the music and legends of New Orleans! And I  might add that we have a pretty great new Album of the Week.

Heralded as the best Cajun band ever, with David Doucet at the epicenter. BeauSoleil plays music rooted in the traditional folk tunes of the Cajuns and Creoles of Louisiana.

7:00 p.m.       Album of the Week: The Traveling Wilburys, Volume 1

Released in 1988, and thus began a magical journey indeed for all of us with the Wilburys: Spike (George Harrison), Clayton (Jeff Lynne), Muddy (Tom Petty), Boo (Bob Dylan) and Lefty Jr. (Roy Orbison; named posthumously). There has not been another supergroup like it. There may not ever be.

This week begins a musical experience that extends far beyond the Mardi Gras, so be sure to tune us in!
