This big-sound blues swing band has been at it for more than half a century now. I remember going to these great small local venues when I was young to see these guys perform. I can’t imagine you haven’t heard of them but, if that’s the case, you should tune us in at 11:00 a.m. EST for this one.

3:00 p.m. Album of The Week: Creole Moon by Dr. John

This is the second airing of Creole Moon and, while it is Tuesday Bluesday, we contend that this qualifies. It qualifies because Dr. John returns to his New Orleans Rhythm & BLUES roots with this effort.

Here we have the biggest, baddest blues-rock band on the planet with the best damned guitarist of his generation in Derek Trucks. Let’s not forget Susan Tedeschi, however. She’s the other anchor of this great band. They have long been known as a great stage band, but they established themselves as a great album band with Revelator.

Yes, folks. It’s a fine Tuesday Bluesday here. This is always a high turnout day for listeners and it’s proving to be that again. This is undoubtedly our favorite musical era here in The Mermaid Lounge. It’s what made us start the station to begin with. So, we’ve come full circle on this fine Wednesday. Before, in between and all night long we’ve got non-stop, commercial-free music. And our DJ’s are virtually mute. Even better. I listen to those guys on the sixties channel on that station you have to pay for and they make me cringe. We don’t do that here. And we’re totally 100%, no-strings-attached free. Every damned day.

Released in 1999, this album by Alison Krauss is categorized as “country, bluegrass, and adult contemporary” (whatever that means). Critical commentary on this one is that in spite of the dobro and mandolin, Alison Krauss is a pop star at heart. Please. I never listen to critics. If I did, I wouldn’t have the album collection I do. Music is in the ear of the beholder. And life is too short to listen to shitty music. Regardless of what they call it, this is a great album.

10:00 a.m. Tom Petty’s Top 100 Songs UPDATED!

We started at 50 songs the first time we aired this; then moved up to 65. To hell with it, Petty’s up to 100 now and he deserves to be there. We’ve got Petty solo, as a Heartbreaker, with Mudcrutch, and as Charlie T. Wilbury Jnr. Most are original compositions. Some are covers. Some were only ever done as part of ‘live’ performances. No matter. The man is a musical godsend. I think we’re pretty measured on this station, and tend to underplay our house bands to remain in control. Today, we get to do the opposite.

We do not normally play an EP at 7:00 p.m. but that changes today. We take you into the evening hours with our ‘In Your Dreams’ multi-artist EP.
