Dylan at Budokan, The “Let It Be” Sessions, Mudcrutch Madness & Van Morrison in the Spotlight, Friday, February 21, 2020

Good Morning, Ungovernables! It’s a fine day of programming here at The Mermaid Lounge, home of #BecomeUngovernable Radio!

59994159c5140b66aec22906195048f8

Here’s your Friday line-up:

11:00 a.m.     Bob Dylan Live at Budokan (1979)

2:00 p.m.       The Beatles’ Let It Be Sessions: Rare and Unreleased

By the time Let It Be rolled around, the good times were few and far between for The Beatles. Still, some of the old magic was there during the sessions, as you can see from today’s photo. We have about 30 session minutes in this set, followed by Let It Be…Naked, the non-Phil Spector version of Let It Be.

5:00 p.m.       Mudcrutch Madness!

There are those who will say that Mudcrutch doesn’t look a thing like Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, but I’ll argue that point. Mudcrutch looks exactly like TPHB: A bunch of friends who enjoy playing music together and just happen to be really good at it.

In this band, the band that launched The Heartbreakers, Tom Petty is the bassist. And although he fronts the band and sings many of the songs, others contribute vocally as well. The standout here is the brilliant version of Hungry No More recorded at Boston’s House of Blues in 2016, which appeared on the posthumously-released An American Treasure box set in 2018.

9:00 p.m.      In the Spotlight: The Music of Van Morrison

Ronstadt B & W

Here’s your Wednesday line-up:

11:00 a.m.     The Beatles Complete Apple Rooftop Concert

The impromptu concert on the top of the Apple Studios building was a lunch-time treat that drove the British Bobbies mad!

2:00 p.m.       The Doors: Live in Concert

5:00 p.m.       In the Spotlight: The Music of Linda Ronstadt

There has not been anybody like her since, and there may never be a voice like that again.

After Ronstadt, it’s Open Stream for the rest of the evening. You simply have to tune us in:

The All-Girl Revue, The Rolling Stones ‘Live’ in San Jose, Springsteen’s Seeger Sessions, and Band On The Run, Tuesday, February 18, 2020

Good Morning, Ungovernables! Does it get any better than this? Of course, it can. This is #BecomeUngovernable Radio where everything we do every day is done without giving one thought to the system.

Springsteens Seeger Sessions-1

Here’s today’s line-up:

11:00 a.m.     Album of the Week: Paul McCartney & Wings, Band On The Run

The problem with being a Beatle is that — as a solo artist — you are always measured by the band’s standards. When it’s one of you, those are eight tough shoes to fill. This album was, without a doubt, outstanding. And given the various calamities that took place during the recording of this album, it’s a miracle it was. You can read about it here.

2:00 p.m.      The All-Girl Revue, Volume 3

Joni Mitchell, Linda Ronstadt, Janis Joplin, Emmylou Harris, Melanie, and Dolly Parton grace this particular volume.

5:00 p.m.      The Rolling Stones, One From the Vault: San Jose, 1999

Mick and the boys tear it up.

9:00 p.m.      Bruce Springsteen’s Seeger Sessions

This shit is just unbelievable. Springsteen pays appropriate homage to folk god Pete Seeger.

Before, in between, at the end…in fact, 24/7: We are open all day and night with the best music on the damned planet. See for yourself.
