lucinda-williams

Here’s your line-up:

11:00 a.m.    In the Spotlight: The Music of Creedence Clearwater Revival

How a bunch of guys hailing from Berkeley, California, could sound like they just walked out of Cajun country has always been a mystery to me, but CCR did it with authority. This is one of the greatest rock n’ roll bands ever. And by the way, happy birthday to Tom Fogerty!

2:00 p.m.      Lucinda Williams Live at The Fillmore

5:00 p.m.      The Band: Music From Big Pink

9:00 p.m.      Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers: The Debut Album

Happy 43rd birthday release date for the self-titled Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers debut album, released on November 9, 1976. To hear Petty tell the story, it just sat there and did nothing initially. Then somebody came in and said, “They’re playing you up in Boston.” The rest, I am happy to say as a native Bostonian, is history.

5:00 p.m.       Petty’s Peculiar Picks: The Best of Tom Petty’s Buried Treasure

One overlooked aspect of Tom Petty’s illustrious career was his stint as a DJ for Sirius XM Radio. He started his Buried Treasure show on the Deep Tracks Channel, but moved it to To Petty Radio when his own channel went on the air. Prior to  his death, he did more than 400 hour-long shows that basically give you the history of rock n’ roll.

In this playlist, you’ll hear the likes of Howlin’ Wolf, Bobby “Blue” Bland, LaVern Baker, Little Richard, and Wanda Jackson, among others.

9:00 p.m.       Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers: Take The Highway Live, 1991

11:00 a.m.    Linda Ronstadt: Live in Hollywood (1980)

The only actual Ronstadt-approved live album ever released, and it didn’t happen until 2019. It was well worth the wait.

The Heartbreakers have to be the best cover band alive. Here’s some more stuff they didn’t write, but still made their own.

Still More From the Girls, and the Happy Birthday Celebration Gets Closer, Saturday, October 19, 2019

Good Morning, Ungovernables! We’re a day closer to the birthday bash, and we’re going to start out the programming with the third volume of the All-Girl Revue.

Shirelles-by-chart.mygoldmusic.codotuk

Here’s today’s line-up:

2:00 p.m.       Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers: Live in Chicago (2003)

5:00 p.m.       Tom Petty’s Final Interview

Rumors abound that Tom Petty knew this would be his last performance, but I assure you he was not planning on leaving the earth so soon. There were lots of things still to do. He may have wanted to end the ‘big venue’ shows, but not the performances.

8:00 p.m.      Bob Dylan & Tom Petty: Across the Borderline

The legendary tour hits Sydney, Australia.

10:30 p.m.    The Ungovernables Report, October 18, 2019

The Girls Are Back, So Are The Shelters, and the PettyFest Continues, Thursday, October 17, 2019

Good Morning, Ungovernables! The girls are back to open up our programming for the day, and we’re looking at another  Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers album also.

Here’s your line-up for today:

11:00 a.m.     The All-Girl Review, Part 1

No, the only two female rockers aren’t Pat Benatar and Joan Jett, but that’s all you ever hear on Top 40 radio. Not here. You’ll hear all the real pioneers here.

2:00 p.m.       In the Spotlight: The Music of The Shelters

Before his death, Tom Petty took The Shelters under his wing, taught them how to record, and co-produced their first album, which came out in 2016. Their second album is now out and they will be one of the highlight acts at PettyFest in Gainesville. It’s only fitting that we put them in the spotlight here.

5:00 p.m.       Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers: She’s The One

Most people look totally stunned when I tell them that Tom Petty and his mates did the soundtrack for the movie, She’s the One. But they did, and we have it here!

10:00 p.m.     Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers: Live in Tuscaloosa, Alabama

Some songs here you may not have heard live before…like Girl On LSD.
