An impromptu live concert on the rooftop of Apple Records by the Beatles at lunch hour brings traffic to a stop in London and drives the Bobbies nuts. Brilliant.

The Arawak Indians

10:00 a.m.   Petty Theft: The Covers

Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers loved to play the music that influenced their music, and they did it just about the best of any band ever. From Chuck Berry, to The Beatles, to JJ Cale, it doesn’t get any better than this.

1:00 p.m.     Howard Zinn: The Three Holy Wars

Walter Becker and Donald Fagan made some of the sweetest sounding music around during the 70s.

1:00 p.m.    Chris Hedges: Fascism in the Age of Trump

The Democratic Party’s demonization of Trump aside, the notion that he is a “good guy” here to rid the world of pedophilia, cure childhood cancer and AIDS is patently absurd. He’s another egomaniacal, gluttonous capitalist here to take us the rest of the way over the cliff.’

Come and give a listen to the most formidable bands of The British Invasion!

8:00 p.m.    Lies, Half-Truths and Omissions: Episode 2

Programming for Saturday, August 3, 2019

Happy Saturday, Ungovernables! And so the weekend begins (unless you’re in retail, like I am where the shopping never stops). Here is your programming for today!

Bobby

10:00 a.m.   The All-Girl Revue: Various Artists

One of the big goals of this station is to elevate the pioneer women of rock. People like Linda Ronstadt, Bonnie Raitt, Laura Nyro, and others whose playtime on rock radio over the years has been stifled by focus on the men. It’s as simple as that. Linda Ronstadt achieved the popularity of a Mick Jagger as a female in music at a time when music was very anti-female, and finally — five decades later — her story will be told. She is but one of the featured artists on this great playlist.

By the way, Volume 2 of this playlist will debut next week.

1:00 p.m.    Robert F. Kennedy’s ’68 Election Townhall Speech

I adore nobody. I fully respect several, however, and this man is one of them. Would we have had a different nation? In my heart of hearts, I believe yes. Perfect? Utopia? I hate to tell you this, but that does not exist anywhere. But I will tell you something else as well. Had John and Bobby Kennedy lived out their normal lives, we would not be here. We would not be in utopia. We would have our problems and issues. But we would not be here. And I also believe this was not coincidence.

4:00 p.m.    Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers Live at the Olympic (The Last DJ Tour)

I say it all the time: It does not get any better on the road than this. If you haven’t experienced this band live, you haven’t experienced this band. This is, without a doubt, one of the tightest bands ever in the history of music. We’ve got a ton of stuff like this and, apparently, Mr. Petty left behind enough unfinished business to keep us going for a very long time.

7:00 p.m.   Lies, Half-Truths, and Omissions: Revisionist American History, Ep. 1

Deb Della Piana takes on the ghost of Christopher Columbus, not one of the good guys no matter what they want you to believe. This will be the final airing of this episode before the first airing of Episode 2.

Programming for Friday, August, 2, 2019

Good Morning, Ungovernables! TGIF, baby! We’ve got a great day ahead that includes two brand new playlists for your listening pleasure. Both are “don’t miss” events!

tom with the Shelters

10:00 a.m.   Badass Guitarists, Volume 1: Various Artists

This playlist could have gone on forever. Instead, we’ll break it down into small bites. It lasts longer that way. From Mike Campbell of The Heartbreakers (The guitar solo at the end of Runnin’ Down a Dream has a life of its own and is untouchable) to Slowhand, to Jimmy Page, this is the best of the best here.

1:00 p.m.    Lies, Half-Truths, and Omissions: Revisionist American History, Ep. 1

This is a repeat performance of the very first episode from last Sunday before we release Episode 2. This will repeat one more time tomorrow as well. This episode is entitled Christopher Columbus Was Not a Hero. Learn about the man heralded as one who found the new world but who, in reality, unleashed a nighmare on the peaceful Native Americans already living here.

4:00 p.m.    In the Spotlight: The Music of The Shelters

We don’t often spotlight new music, but we are today. Tom Petty had a ton of musical projects in the fire, one of which was mentoring a young band named The Shelters. In fact, he produced their first record in 2016, which was recorded at The Clubhouse, where Petty and The Heartbreakers recorded. Give a listen to the Shelters. They’ll also be added to the Standard Rotation.

7:00 p.m.   The Secret World of U.S. Elections

Back before Julian Assange was vilified by a clueless American public following the lead of the fraudulent mainstream media, he gave us some insights into the reality of our elections. Trust me when I tell you it has not improved. In fact, like everything else when left unattended, it has gotten worse.
