Stevie Ray Vaughan & Jeff Beck, Shawn Colvin, and Petty Does Double-Duty as DJ, Tuesday, October 29, 2019

Good Morning, Ungovernables! We’re coming to the end of Petty month, and we’re pulling out the stops. Now we have Tom the performer and Tom the DJ on the same day!

shawn-colvin

Here’s today’s line-up:

11:00 a.m.     Stevie Ray Vaughan & Jeff Beck: The Fire Meets The Fury

Do we need to say any more than that?

2:00 p.m.       In the Spotlight: The Music of Shawn Colvin

The importance of Shawn Colvin to women in music cannot be understated, although she often seems to bring up the rear.

5:00 p.m.       Petty’s Peculiar Picks: The Best of Tom Petty’s Buried Treasure

One overlooked aspect of Tom Petty’s illustrious career was his stint as a DJ for Sirius XM Radio. He started his Buried Treasure show on the Deep Tracks Channel, but moved it to To Petty Radio when his own channel went on the air. Prior to  his death, he did more than 400 hour-long shows that basically give you the history of rock n’ roll.

In this playlist, you’ll hear the likes of Howlin’ Wolf, Bobby “Blue” Bland, LaVern Baker, Little Richard, and Wanda Jackson, among others.

9:00 p.m.       Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers: Take The Highway Live, 1991

“Turn on, tune in, drop out.” -Timothy Leary

The Girls Are Back, So Are The Shelters, and the PettyFest Continues, Thursday, October 17, 2019

Good Morning, Ungovernables! The girls are back to open up our programming for the day, and we’re looking at another  Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers album also.

Here’s your line-up for today:

Before his death, Tom Petty took The Shelters under his wing, taught them how to record, and co-produced their first album, which came out in 2016. Their second album is now out and they will be one of the highlight acts at PettyFest in Gainesville. It’s only fitting that we put them in the spotlight here.

5:00 p.m.       Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers: She’s The One

Most people look totally stunned when I tell them that Tom Petty and his mates did the soundtrack for the movie, She’s the One. But they did, and we have it here!

10:00 p.m.     Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers: Live in Tuscaloosa, Alabama

Some songs here you may not have heard live before…like Girl On LSD.

Marsalis & Clapton, Muldaur & Dylan, and The Petty Party Continues

The Beatles, The Heartbreakers, The Traveling Wilburys and Aliens, Saturday, October 5, 2019

traveling-wilburys-photography-1280-750px

Here’s the line-up:

10:00 a.m.    The Beatles: The Complete Apple Records Rooftop Concert

The fans loved this impromptu concert, but the British Bobbies were beside themselves trying to figure out where the music was coming from. It stopped traffic in the middle of London on a work day.

1:00 p.m.      Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers: Live in Tuscaloosa, Alabama

Here’s some material you don’t hear every day, like Girl on LSD, Cabin Down Below and a spectacular 11-minute jam on one of my all-time favorite Petty songs, It’s Good To Be King.

4:00 p.m.      The Ungovernables Report

Our third and final airing over the weekend.

6:00 p.m.      In the Spotlight: The Music of The Traveling Wilburys

They didn’t do it for money. They didn’t go on the road. They were five friends who enjoyed each other’s company and had a blast making music together. Add legendary drummer Jim Keltner, and you cannot go wrong. We think it shows.

11:59 p.m.    Orson Welles’ Original Broadcast: War of the Worlds

What might seem amateurish to us today scared the living shit out of everyone back in 1938. Get the popcorn ready.
