Lukas Nelson & POTR in the Spotlight, The Beatles Rock the Rooftop, This Week’s “Live Dead,” and Farewell to “Let It Bleed” on Saturday, April 11, 2020

Good Morning, Ungovernables! At the end of this day of indentured servitude to the consuming public, it will begin my weekend. We have some great programming today.

Beatles Rock the Rooftop

Here’s your line-up:

11:00 a.m.   Album of the Week: Let It Bleed, The Rolling Stones  FINAL AIRING!

This is the final airing of Let It Bleed. Tomorrow when you wake up, there will be a brand new Album of the Week.

2:00 p.m.     In the Spotlight: Lukas Nelson & Promise of the Real

Yes, Willie’s boy has a hell of a country rock band here. POTR also doubles as Neil Young’s road band in their spare time.

6:00 p.m.   The Beatles Rock the Rooftop!

The Beatles final public performance happened on January 30, 1969 with an unannounced concert from the rooftop of Apple Corporation headquarters at 3 Saville Row. Their fans were ecstatic with the lunchtime entertainment. The British Bobbies? Not so much.

10:00 p.m.  Live Dead: The Grateful Dead Live at Watkins Glen, New York (7-28-73)

We’re taking a break from Europe ’72 this week and airing a concert from Watkins Glen, New York. No two Dead performances are ever the same. They are the ultimate jam band.

Tune us in. It’s Easter weekend. The bunny’s efforts are scaled back this year. We’ll blunt the trauma with some great music.

Dylan’s “Murder Most Foul,” John Prine in the Spotlight, and There’s Nothing Like That Sweet Soul Sound, Friday, April 10, 2020

Good Morning, Ungovernables! We lost another troubadour this week. John Prine passed away, leaving yet another hole in the singer/songwriter category. We pay him respects.

John Prine-Bonnie Raitt

John Prine and Bonnie Raitt singing the wondrous Angel From Montgomery.

Here’s your Friday line-up:

1:00 p.m.   Bob Dylan’s Murder Most Foul

Dylan’s first new release in 8 years is his perspective on the assassination of John F. Kennedy or, as I refer to it, the beginning of our end. This is the first Dylan song to top the Billboard charts in his career (not that he ever gave a shit about that), a testament to both of their legacies.

4:00 p.m.   In the Spotlight: The Music of John Prine  NEW!

Singer-Songwriters aren’t easy to come by, and we lost one of the most revered of his generation this week. John Prine’s Angel From Montgomery remains Bonnie Raitt’s defining tune to this day.

7:00 p.m.   That Sweet Soul Sound: Various Artists

The Four Tops, Stevie Wonder, Ray Charles, Aretha Franklin, Bill Withers, Ann Peebles, Curtis Mayfield, Roberta Flack, The Staple Singers, and many more.

Tune us in. And did I mention that this weekend we have Sixties Sunday?

Van Morrison “Live” in Montreux, Linda Ronstadt “Live” at Rockpalast, The Band in the Spotlight, and Our Album of the Week, Thursday, April 9, 2020

Good Morning, Ungovernables! We’re getting off to an early posting start because we’re getting off to a 10:00 a.m. musical start!

Here’s today’s incredible line-up:

10:00 a.m.   Album of the Week: Let It Bleed by The Rolling Stones

This is not only one of my favorite all-time albums, but the song Gimme’ Shelter is one of my all-time favorite songs. That inerlude by Merry Clayton is amazing.

1:00 p.m.    Van Morrison: Live From Montreux, Switzerland   NEW!

Van Morrison was built to last. He began his career in 1964 with the British blues band Them. They were billed as part of the British Invasion, and their most famous hit is Gloria, but I also remember them for Baby Please Don’t Go. For Van Morrison and his fans (and I am one), the rest is history.

5:00 p.m.   Linda Ronstadt: Live at Rockpalast, Germany

Speaking of built to last. I have no doubt that Linda Ronstadt would still be musically contributing in some way had she not been robbed of her lifeblood by Parkinsons. What we do have is an amazing body of work that crosses all kinds of genres and defied the naysayers who said, “You can’t sing that. You’ll ruin your career.” She did. And it didn’t.

8:00 a.m.   In the Spotlight: The Music of The Band

Yeah. And then, there’s these guys. This is the perfect way to close out today.

Tune us in, people. www.tinyurl.com/becomeungovernableradio

You heard us right. The love songs. The master storyteller was also a writer of great love songs.

8:00 p.m.   In the Spotlight: The Music of the Foo Fighters   NEW!

The Foo Fighters make their #BecomeUngovernable Radio debut today. The band was founded in 1994 by Nirvana drummer Dave Grohl after the suicide of Kurt Cobain.

Tune us in. You don’t know what you’re missing…until you do.

The guy who never cared about being a star certainly left us a great body of work. We pay tribute to Withers today. He passed away on March 30th.

10:00 p.m. Live Dead: The Grateful Dead, Europe ’72: Copenhagen, April 17, 1972 NEW!

This is the second Copenhagen show of the tour; not a repeat of our earlier broadcast. And we all know that no two Dead shows are ever the same.

The Big “O” in the Spotlight, New “Live” Music From Derek & The Dominos, and The All-Girl Revue is Back on Monday, March 30, 2020

Good Morning, Ungovernables! We’ve dug deep on the live music today to bring you Derek & The Dominos! Sit back and enjoy the music.

Derek & The Dominos

Here’s today’s line-up:

1:00 p.m.   In the Spotlight: The Music of Otis Redding (aka, The Big O)

Gone before his time at the age of 26 in a plane crash that also claimed the lives of five teen-aged members of the BarKays, who had been recording and touring with him. The former well-driller from Macon, Georgia, is considered one of the greatest singers of all time, and certainly a pioneer in soul music and R & B.

4:00 p.m.   Derek & The Dominos Live!   NEW!

Derek & The Dominos was formed in the spring of 1970 by singer/guitarist Eric Clapton, keyboardist Bobby Whitlock, bass player Carl Radle, and drummer Jim Gordon. They had all played together previously in Delaney & Bonnie and Friends (who you will hear on our station in the very near future). Also contributing to their musical efforts were Dave Mason, George Harrison (the band was formed while he was making All Things Must Pass), and legendary slide guitarist Duane Allman.

7:00 p.m.   The All-Girl Revue, Volume 1

Sit back and enjoy Joni Mitchell, Carly Simon, Carlene Carter, Irma Thomas, Ann Peebles, Linda Ronstadt, Emmylou Harris, Bonnie Raitt, Lulu, and Patti Smith…just for starters.

It doesn’t get any better than this, Ungovernables! We’re totally OUTSIDE the system.
