The newest addition to our women’s line-up is Eva Cassidy, who died tragically at the age of 33 from cancer in 1996. We are winding down on Songbird. We will have one more airing on Saturday before choosing a new album. Don’t miss it!

We haven’t heard this one in a long while, so tonight we pay respects to the supergroups. This playlist features Derek & The Dominos; Emerson, Lake & Palmer; Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young; The Traveling Wilburys; Cream; The Highwaymen; Blind Faith; and Dolly Parton, Linda Ronstadt & Emmylou Harris (yes, a bona fide supergroup even though the male dominated rock world never even mentions them in association with the word).

We introduced Eva Cassidy to our line-up earlier in the week, with a live performance. All of her music is now in our Standard Rotation, so it is only fitting that we make her album Songbird our Album of The Week. This was a posthumously-released compilation album, as Eva died from cancer at the age of 33 back in 1996. She was virtually unknown at the time. Since its release, Songbird has gone multi-platinum. We’d like the people everywhere to get to know Eva Cassidy. Music lives forever.

Our friends from across the pond are back today. We feature the music of the British Invasion and beyond with this great five-hour playlist. Uninterrupted by commercials. Tom Petty and his bandmates once said that they learned the art of improvisation on stage from going on tour with Bob Dylan. He taught them well because they were one of the best damned live bands I’ve ever seen. Bob Dylan is a master craftsman in so many ways.

We haven’t aired this one for a while, so it’s time has come around once again. You will hear songs from Bonnie Raitt, Jackson Browne, Dusty Springfield, J.J. I remember when Tom Petty took the time to come out on stage before Lucinda Williams opened for The Heartbreakers and told the audience that they really needed to pay attention to her. They did. If by some stroke of ill fortune you haven’t paid attention to Lucinda, this is your time.

7:00 p.m. Traffic Live at The Capitol Theatre, Port Chester, New York, June 26, 1970

Traffic was formed in Birmingham, England, in April of 1967 by Steve Winwood, Jim Capaldi, Chris Wood and Dave Mason. The band began as a psychedelic rock group, but diversified their sound by adding various instruments, including the Mellotron, the harpsichord and the sitar. They disbanded in 1969, bur reunited in 1970 to release their album John Barleycorn Must Die, and for this tour. Steve Winwood is another favorite here in The Mermaid Lounge.

Springsteen dropped the “Seeger” from the sessions band for this album performance; something we think is a shame. Ultimately this is Springsteens ‘take’ on Pete Seeger;s music, recorded November 17-19, 2006 in Dublin, Ireland.

A lot of New Orleans music is steeped in history, but there are modern-day bands playing all over the streets of The Big Easy every day. BeauSoleil is one of the more recent bands to make their mark. This is a collection of live performances from a number of locations in Louisiana. We think you’ll enjoy their style.

3:00 p.m. Echoes From The Canyon: Various Artists

Another of those historical music “scenes” is Laurel Canyon. Here, bands like CSNY, The Lovin’ Spoonful, The Beach Boys, The Byrds and The Buffalo Springfield developed their sounds. The British Invasion resonated with these bands, and these bands also had a creative effect on their friends across the pond. You’ll hear these bands plus Joni Mitchell, Jackson Browne, The Doors, and The Mamas & The Papas.

7:00 p.m. Album of The Week: Take A Little Walk With Me by Tom Rush FINAL AIRING!

Today we’ll have the final airing of Tom Rush’s Take A Little Walk With Me, released in 1966. Tomorrow when you wake up, there’ll be a new Album of The Week.
