Singer-songwriter Jackson Browne, one of the absolute best.

Here’s today’s line-up:

11:00 a.m. In The Spotlight: The Music of Jackson Browne NEW!

There’s not much you can say about Jackson Browne other than the fact that he is one of the best songwriters to ever grace the airwaves. He has sold 18 million copies of his albums in the United States. His songs have been sung by Linda Ronstad, The Eagles, BonnieRaitt, and many others.

3:00 p.m. Album of The Week: Eli and The Thirteenth Confession by Laura Nyro

Here’s another brilliant songwriter who has made others famous. But to hear Laura cover her own songs is a pleasure indeed.

7:00 p.m. All About Blue: Various Artists UPDATED & EXPANDED

I never realized how many songs had the word “blue” in it until I started researching this playlist. Hear The Allman Brothers Band, Joni Mitchell, The Beatles, Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, Fats Domino, Eric Clapton, Linda Ronstadt, Bob Dylan, Jonathan Edwards, and more!

What are you all waiting for? Tune us in. You will not regret it.

Here we are again in the middle of the week with Open Stream and another Wilbury Wednesday with Otis, Lucky, Lefty, Nelson, and Charlie T. Jr. These guys are always a good time!

It’s Tuesday Bluesday Here, We Have Our AOW This Afternoon, and Our Tribute to Lennon Later, December 8, 2020

Good Morning, Music Lovers! Here we are again in The Mermaid Lounge playing all the music that’s fit to hear. We cut our Tuesday Bluesday down a bit today to pay respects to John Lennon later.

John Lennon. ‘Nuff said.

Here’s today’s line-up:

11:00 a.m. Tuesday Bluesday! The Tedeschi Trucks Band Live at Red Rocks, August 30, 2012

This is a sweet little blues and blues rock band, led by blues singer and guitarist Susan Tedeschi and her husband Derek Trucks. They were formed in 2010 and operate out of Jacksonville, Florida. They have released four studio and two live albums since then, with their 2012 album, Revelator, winning the Grammy Award for Best Blues Album.

3:00 p.m. Album of The Week: Eli and The Thirteenth Confession by Laura Nyro

Laura Nyro is one of those quiet superstars, known mostly for making other people famous with her brilliant songwriting skills. But to hear this woman sing her own songs? That’s the best.

7:00 p.m. In The Spotlight: The Music of John Lennon

Forty years ago today, some fucking lunatic who wanted his fifteen minutes of fame gunned down one of the most brilliant rock musicians of all time, and a man who wanted nothing but to live in peace. Fuck you, Mark David Chapman. And John Lennon, you are now resting in peace. We miss you.

Tune us in, people. We’ve added the Russian Federation, Croatia, and Denmark to our listener list over the past week. Where the hell are all of you?

It’s an Open Stream Friday All Day Until The Beatles and The Shadow Drop By, Friday, December 4, 2020

Good Morning, Musicologists! We have a planned server upgrade today, so we will be Open Streaming right up until this evening when The Beatles and The Shadow drop by.

Here’s today’s line-up:

All Day Open Stream Friday with Three-in-a-Row’s!

7:00 p.m. The Beatles: The Endgame

The endgame battles of the Fab Four are legendary, but they continued to make outstanding music right up until the end, and they resolved their personal issues over time. What they contributed to rock music far outweighs their personal issues. This is the third and final portion of our Beatles Retrospective series.

10:00 p.m. The Shadow: Aboard The Steamship Amazon

Our final airing of this week’s episode of The Shadow. We got off to a late start with the opening of the show this week, but next week, The Shadow airs Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Watch the schedule!

More From The Beatles, Album of The Week, and Linda Ronstadt Live in My Town on Thursday, December 3, 2020

It’s another great day of music from The Mermaid Lounge: Just enough programming and plenty of Open Stream as we chug on toward a weekend of new music playlists!

Linda Ronstadt performs on stage in Boston with Valerie Carter (1995).

Here’s today’s line-up:

11:00 a.m. The Beatles: The Transformation

I guess I could have come up with a better title for this playlist, but it was hard for me to describe the giant leap The Beatles took from Rubber Soul onward. It was gigantic. This was undoubtedly their most creative and experimental time as a musical group in their writing and in the studio. George Martin was no small part of that endeavor.

3:00 p.m. Album of The Week: Wreckless Abandon by The Dirty Knobs

Time is winding down on this week’s Album of The Week. We’ve got one more chance for you to acquaint yourselves with The Dirty Knobs before we move on to a brand new selection on Sunday!

7:00 p.m. Linda Ronstadt Live at The Orpheum Theatre, Boston, MA, May 14, 1995

The photo above isn’t the best, but good photos of this show are very hard to come by. I was there, and this was undoubtedly one of the most amazing shows I’ve ever seen Linda Ronstadt perform. She was helped by friend Valerie Carter, who also opened for her. You don’t get the opportunity to see two great singers on stage together very often. I, luckily, did. (By the way, if you’re not familiar with Valerie Carter, you should make it a point to become familiar. We love her here in The Mermaid Lounge.)

Tune us in. Grease your wheels. This weekend we’ve got some brand new playlists coming up, along with some new live shows. We’ve been out there hunting, and all of this will carry over into the winter of our discontent. Hopefully, #BecomeUngovernable Radio can be an oasis in this vast wasteland.

It’s Another (Mostly) Open-Stream Wednesday With Warren Zevon In The Spotlight, and The Shadow Coming Up Later, on December 2, 2020

Good Morning, Musicologists! Here we are with another (Mostly) Open-Stream Wednesday where we circulate 26,000+ songs every day, including Three-in-Rows, for your listening pleasure.

Warren Zevon, no ordinary singer-songwriter.

Here’s is your mid-week line-up!

All Day Open Stream: Circulating 26,000+ Songs With Three-in-a-Row Interludes!

We’ve got our library wide open and streaming right up until our first bit of programming for the day! You’ll hear three-in-a-row’s from your favorites as you stream through the day.

6:00 p.m. In The Spotlight: The Music of Warren Zevon

Today we put Warren Zevon’s considerable musical talents In The Spotlight. He wasn’t just a songwriter; he was also a hell of a performer. Warren’s demons notwithstanding (drugs, alcohol, partying, and the resulting blackouts), Zevon managed to put together an incredible musical career. We love this guy’s music in The Mermaid Lounge.

9:00 p.m. The Shadow, Episode 1: Aboard The Steamship Amazon NEW!

Today we kick off our Winter Suspense Series with The Shadow. Find out what happens to the unsuspecting passengers upon the luxury cruise ship Amazon, which is being used to smuggle munitions for a band of revolutionaries. We’re certainly not going to tell you. You’re going to have to tune it in.

If you tune us in early, you’ll certainly get more than a flavor for what we’re all about musically. We are free. No strings. No credit card required, and no personal information requested.

It’s Tuesday Bluesday With John Mayall, Mick Jagger & Jeff Beck; The Dirty Knobs Are Back With Our AOW, December 1, 2020

Good Morning, and welcome to December. The Shadow starts on Wednesday, but today we’ve got some Tuesday Bluesday music and Three-in-a Row’s lined up.

John Mayall is known as the Godfather of British Blues for a reason.

Here’s today’s line-up:

11:00 a.m. John Mayall & The Bluesbreakers Live at The BBC (1965-1967)

Today we’ve got all the Bluesbreakers recordings done for the BBC between 1965 and 1967. We are always on the hunt for new music. We’ve got places to go that I’m not even sure how we’ve found, but we’re back on the hunt for some authentic blues again. In the meantime, there’s a reason why John Mayall is known as the Godfather of British Blues. You’ll see.

3:00 p.m. Album of The Week: Wreckless Abandon by The Dirty Knobs

A great debut album worth the wait in the midst of this pestilence. It is in today’s pipeline and also now in our general rotation.

7:00 p.m. Mick Jagger & Jeff Beck Live at The Country Club, Reseda, CA, October 20, 1987

This is a short little soundboard interlude here with Mick Jagger and Jeff Beck. This was originally a session to record a promo; what ensues here is what happened in between takes, apparently. There is reportedly a longer version of this out there somewhere. I’m determined to find it. In the meantime, enjoy this one.

The rest of the day is Open Stream with some Three-in-a-Rows tossed in for good measure. Enjoy your day!

An Intro to The Dirty Knobs, We Celebrate The Life of George Harrison, and The Stones Live Later, Sunday, November 29, 2020

Good Morning, Music Lovers! We’ve got a damned good line-up today here from The Mermaid Lounge! You ought to be listening to us. Seriously.

Mike Campbell and The Dirty Knobs. You can take the boy out of The Heartbreakers, but you can’t take The Heartbreakers out of the boy.

Here’s today’s line-up:

11:00 a.m. Album of The Week: Wreckless Abandon by The Dirty Knobs NEW!

What was Mike Campbell’s side project is now Mike Campbell’s new band, and they’ve just released their first album. I’ve got to tell you, it’s really good. One review said it’s like listening to old friends, and I agree.

Which proves one thing: You can take the boy out of The Heartbreakers, but you can’t take The Heartbreakers out of the boy. It’s part of his DNA now, and we’re glad here in The Mermaid Lounge.

3:00 p.m. In The Spotlight: The Music of George Harrison

From The Beatles to his solo career to The Traveling Wilburys. George Harrison was not only a mega-talent, but he was just a really good human being. But he wasn’t “the quiet Beatle” according to Mr. Petty. He was pretty damned funny.

George Harrison left this planet on this day in 2001. He was only 58 years old and I am sure he had so much more music left in him. Nevertheless, George left us a great musical history to remember him by. We will do so today.

7:00 p.m. The Rolling Stones Live At Palais Royale, Toronto, August 16, 2002

Mick and the boys tear it up on stage in Toronto. It has been my personal experience that they are always a good time on stage.

It’s Sunday. Someone once said it’s a day of rest, so just tune us in and chill. All you’ve got to do is click the link below.
