Welcome to Sunday in The Lounge! Today It Boils Down to Joni Mitchell and Sir Paul McCartney’s Birthday Bash, June 18, 2023

Good morning, revelers! We’ve moved our EP to Monday so we can celebrate on Macca’s official birth date. We’ve got some great stuff lined up starting with Joni Mitchell’s AOW!

Here’s your Sunday Funday lineup:

10:00 a.m. Album of The Week: The Hissing of Summer Lawns by Joni Mitchell NEW!

Although Court and Spark remains my favorite in this Mitchell jazz-influenced genre, The Hissing of Summer Lawns continues that trend with a more experimental approach. Her seventh studio album includes jazz-rock contributors The L.A. Express and The Jazz Crusaders, along with appearances by James Taylor, Graham Nash and David Crosby.

4:00 p.m. Paul McCartney Live at The Cavern Club, Liverpool, UK, December 14, 1999 NEW!

We start McCartney’s festival with a live recording of his 1999 show at The Cavern Club in Liverpool, where it all started with The Beatles. The show was in support of his album Run Devil Run, so you’ll hear a lot of great fifties and early sixties covers from those who influenced both his and The Beatles’ music here.

8:00 p.m. In The Spotlight: The Music of Paul McCartney

This particular set includes not only Macca’s work with Wings and his solo efforts, but many of his Beatle hits also, and will close out today’s programming.

As always, there’s a lot of wide Open Stream today. Happy Father’s Day to all the dads out there and we hope you’ll tune us in at least for a little while in between the cookouts and festivities. We’re on 24/7. The music never stops. And there’s absolutely, positively no commercial interruption.

We Start With Our ‘Are You Ready for The Country’ EP, Move to the Final Airing of Susan Tedeschi’s AOW, Then Kick off McCartney’s Birthday Bash Tonight, Saturday, June 17, 2023

Here’s your Saturday lineup:

Today’s the final airing of this great blues album by singer-songwriter Susan Tedeschi. Don’t miss it!

8:00 p.m. Singer-Songwriter Series: The Music of Paul McCartney NEW!

Paul McCartney is undoubtedly one of the most successful singer-songwriters of his generation with absolutely nothing left to prove to the world. Yet, he’s still out there making music and filling venues at the age of 81. And yes, it all began with The Beatles all those years ago, but this particular playlist is McCartney without The Beatles. And that’s because we still have yet to do Lennon-McCartney as our featured singer-songwriters. (That is coming.) Macca’s body of work since The Beatles split is immense, beginning with his ten years leading Wings (longer than The Beatles existed) and his solo work. This is how we kick off his birthday bash weekend. More tomorrow.

We’re here 24/7, folks, and we’re totally free of charge. We also fight capitalism at every turn because there is absolutely no commercial advertising. Join our international community this weekend.

It’s a Simple Sunday Here With Susan Tedeschi’s AOW and Our ‘A Little Bit O’ Soul Multi-Artist EP, June 11, 2023

Good morning, weekenders! As you well know, we keep it pretty simple here on Sundays with light programming and plenty of wide Open Stream. Today is no exception.

Here’s your Sunday Funday lineup:

11:00 a.m. Album of The Week: Just Won’t Burn by Susan Tedeschi NEW!

I could write tomes here about Susan Tedeschi, but I don’t have to. All you need to do is check out her Wikipedia page. I am, however, proud to say she’s Boston born and raised and graduated from the Berkeley College of Music at the age of 20 with her degree in music composition and performance. Today, she’s a musical legend at the helm of the Tedeschi Trucks Band with her husband, former Allman Brothers Band guitarist Derek Trucks. Acknowledged as one of the finest blues singers, her voice is a cross between Janis Joplin and Bonnie Raitt, who she claims as influences. Her guitar work has been influenced by Stevie Ray Vaughan, Johnny “Guitar” Watson, Buddy Guy and Doyle Bramhall II. Tedeschi Trucks is on a nationwide tour right now. You can see for yourself. They’re scheduled for Boston on September 27.

3:00 p.m. A Little Bit O’ Soul: Various Artists

Our big, bad soul and rhythm & blues EP is back for another round with Aretha Franklin, The Temptations, The Four Tops, The Ronettes, Marvin Gaye, Ray Charles, Otis Redding, Jimmy Ruffin, The Drifters, Chuck Berry, Stevie Wonder, Carla Thomas, James Brown, The Shirelles, Etta James, Curtis Mayfield, Sam & Dave, The Staple Singers, Nina Simone, LaVern Baker, The Supremes, Sam Cooke, Edwin Starr, Fontella Bass, Smokey Robinson & The Miracles, Irma Thomas, The Box Tops, Jr. Walker & The All Stars, Eddie Floyd, The Ad Libs, Joe Tex, Wanda Jackson, Percy Sledge, Ann Peebles, Al Green and more! That’s five hours of the music that made America dance.

Before, in between and after we give you our big, wide Open Stream on a 24/7 basis at no charge. No subscripton required. No personal information requested. All we ask if, if you like us, help spread the word because we accept no advertising and have no advertising budget ourselves. We are wall-to-wall music 24/7.

It’s Saturday With Our ‘Ode to Morning’ EP, Guy Clark’s AOW (Final Airing), and Rickie Lee Jones as Our New Featured Singer-Songwriter, June 10, 2023

4:00 p.m. Album of The Week: Texas Cookin’ by Guy Clark FINAL AIRING!

8:00 p.m. Singer-Songwriter Series: The Music of Rickie Lee Jones NEW!

In spite of the fact that Rickie Lee Jones has been at it for five decades, she has shunned the limelight. It’s only fitting, then, that we feature her as this week’s singer-songwriter. She has refused to be defined by one style, writing and singing songs from a variety of genres including rock, R & B, pop, soul and jazz.

Join us today. The Lounge is filling up fast, but there’s plenty of room for everyone here. We’re all about sharing great music at absolutely no cost to anyone and with no commercial interruption. See for yourselves!

The Week’s End Brings the ‘Down In New Orleans’ EP and a New Eagles Spotlight Feature, June 9, 2023

Good morning, lovers of New Orleans music. It’s certainly one of the most eclectic musical areas of the nation and today we celebrate it with our ‘Down in New Orleans’ EP!

Here’s your end-of-the-week musical lineup:

11:00 a.m. Down in New Orleans: Various Artists

Today we celebrate the music of New Orleans and we give you authentic Cajun/Zydeco sounds as well as some mainstream musicians who were born and raised there. You’ll hear Allen Toussaint, BeauSoleil, Clifton Chenier, Dr. John, Buckwheat Zydeco, Irma Thomas, Professor Longhair, Fats Domino, Allen Fontenot, Aaron Neville, Lucinda Williams, The Preservation Hall Jazz Band, Kermit Ruffins, Louis Armstrong, The Daywalkers, The Neville Brothers, Jerry Lee Lewis, Chance Bushman, The Boogaloo Swamis, Queen Ida & The Bontemps Zydeco Band, Marcia Ball, The Magnolia Sisters and more!

8:00 p.m. In The Spotlight: The Eagles NEW!

This one has been a long time coming, but it’s finally here. There’s no question that I’m a bigger fan of their early stuff (pre-Joe Walsh), but I’m also a fan of their later stuff as they shifted from country-rock to a more mainstream rock sound.

Before, in between and after our programming you are treated to our big, wide Open Stream courtesy of The Music Mermaid. We’re on 24/7 at no charge to the listening public. And there’s no commercial advertising ever. What’s not to love here?
