On Sunday We Deliver J. D. Souther’s AOW, Our ‘Ode To Morning’ Multi-Artist EP, and Stephen Stills as Our Singer-Songwriter, July 9, 2023

Good morning, music lovers! Yes, we are deviating from the norm a bit here because we celebrated Ringo’s 83rd birthday yesterday, but we’re back on track with some great programming today!

Here’s Sunday’s lineup:

9:00 a.m. Album of The Week: Black Rose by John David (J.D.) Souther NEW!

Throughout his career, J.D. Souther has been primarily known as a songwriter who has been recorded by many artists, including The Eagles, Linda Ronstadt and Bonnie Raitt. Today he owns our Album of The Week because we believe he’s more than that. He’s a singer-songwriter (and his turn will be coming up soon) of extraordinary talent, and Black Rose is one of the best albums ever recorded.

11:00 a.m. Ode To Morning: Various Artists

For the first time, we had our ‘Here Comes The Night’ and ‘Ode To Morning’ EP’s fall back-to-back. Today we pay homage to the sunrise with Cat Stevens, Hoyt Axton, The Beatles, Neil Young, The Rascals, Waylon Jennings, Joan Baez, James Taylor, Gram Parsons, Simon & Garfunkel, Chris Hillman, Taj Mahal, Dan Fogelberg, Linda Ronstadt, Harry Chapin, Three Dog Night, Ry Cooder, Tim Buckley, Muddy Waters, Jonathan Edwards, Bob Dylan, Townes Van Zandt, Pure Prairie League, Badfinger and more!

8:00 p.m. Singer-Songwriter Series: The Music of Stephen Stills NEW!

Tonight we introduce the one-and-only Stephen Stills as our featured singer-songwriter for the week. The guy’s talent cannot be denied, in spite of some of the personal mud slinging that has gone on between members of Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young. We also trace his career as a solo artist, as well as with Crosby, Stills & Nash (pre-Young) his band, Manassas.

We hope you’ll tune us in on this fine programming day. We’re on 24/7, not just when we have programming, and we’re totally free of charge. No surprises. No subscriptions. No credit cards. No personal information required. It’s all about the music.

We’ve Made It to Friday With Jeff Lynne’s Final Spin as Singer-Songwriter, Founding Father Chuck Berry In the Spotlight, and New ‘Live’ Allman Brothers Later On, July 7, 2023

Good morning, work warriors! We’ve made it to the end of the week and everything from here is, as they say, downhill! We’ve got a great lineup for you today here in The Mermaid Lounge, including a brand new ‘live’ performance by The Allman Brothers Band!

Here are Friday’s musical festivities:

9:00 a.m. Singer-Songwriter Series: The Music of Jeff Lynne FINAL AIRING!

Jeff Lynne takes his final spin as this week’s featured singer-songwriter, and we will miss him. We give you his music as the founder of Electric Light Orchestra, and as a founding member of The Traveling Wilburys, the greatest supergroup ever. Tomorrow, we’ll introduce a brand new artist to carry the torch!

12:00 p.m. In the Spotlight: The Music of Chuck Berry

Speaking of founding fathers, this guy is one of the founding fathers of rock n’ roll, baby. John Lennon once said if you could give rock n’ roll a different name, it would be Chuck Berry. Mr. Lennon should know, in fact, and today we put Chuck Berry In the Spotlight.

8:00 p.m. The Allman Brothers Band Live at The Cow Palace, Daly City, CA, December 31, 1973

The Brothers give us a New Year’s Eve concert to be remembered at The Cow Palace just outside of San Francisco. It’s just what you’d expect from one of the greatest blues-rock bands on the planet.

Remember, we’re on here 24/7 playing the tunes totally free of charge. All you need is a set of ears and a computer tab (or your smart phone) to tune us in. We do not require “subscriptions,” we do not require a credit card, and we certainly don’t ask you for your personal information. And did I mention we are totally commercial free? Totally.

We Start a New Month With Our ‘What’s in A Name’ EP, Bob Dylan’s Final AOW Spin, and the Multi-Faceted Jeff Lynne as Our Featured Singer-Songwriter, Saturday, July 1, 2023

Good morning, musicologists, and welcome to the dog days of summer here in The Mermaid Lounge! We kick off a new month in fine form today. Read on for details!

Here’s your musical lineup:

9:00 a.m. What’s in a Name: Various Artists

One of our newer EP’s is airing this morning. We just introduced this one last month, and you’ll hear Stevie Wonder, The Beatles, Them, Janis Joplin, The Beach Boys, Simon & Garfunkel, Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, Jimi Hendrix Experience, Donovan, Steve Winwood, Bonnie Raitt, Shawn Colvin, Carly Simon, Warren Zevon, Laura Nyro, Bobbie Gentry, The Kinks, Three Dog Night, The Association, Joni Mitchell, Badfinger, Linda Ronstadt, Steely Dan, Chi Coltrane, Bob Dylan, Rod Stewart, James Taylor, Tony Joe White and more!

4:00 p.m. Album of The Week: Nashville Skyline by Bob Dylan FINAL AIRING!

We say farewell to Bob Dylan’s Nashville Skyline today, undoubtedly one of his best albums ever. Tomorrow, we’ll have a brand new selection for you!

8:00 p.m. Singer-Songwriter Series: The Music of Jeff Lynne NEW!

Here’s a guy who doesn’t get the attention he should. Most people know him as the leader of Electric Light Orchestra, but Jeff Lynne is more than that. He’s one of the most prolific singer-songwriters on the planet. Before ELO, there was a sixties band called The Move, which recorded and released the original version of Do Ya. He was a founding member of The Traveling Wilburys. And finally, he’s a record producer who worked with both George Harrison and Tom Petty over his long career. Tonight we introduce him as this week’s featured singer-songwriter.

For most people it’s a long weekend where we’ll celebrate our alleged freedom (although all I see from the GOP are rights being rolled back). All that propaganda aside, it’s absolutely not propaganda that we play the best music on the planet totally free with no commercial interruption on a 24/7 schedule. Give us a shot.

We End the Month in Style and Kick Off the July 4 Weekend With Petty’s Top 100 Songs and Townes Van Zandt’s Final Turn as Our Singer-Songwriter on Friday, June 30, 2023

Good morning, musicologists! We kicked off Memorial Day weekend with The Beatles Top 100 and today we kick off July 4th weekend with Tom Petty’s Top 100.

Here’s today’s musical lineup:

10:00 a.m. Tom Petty’s Top 100 Songs

I might add, in no particular order. That would be too tall a task. This is Petty as founding member of The Heartbreakers, Mudcrutch and The Traveling Wilburys, as well as a solo artist. We celebrated our ‘other’ House Band at the beginning of summer, and we celebrate (mostly) The Heartbreakers today as we enter the dog days of summer.

8:00 p.m. Singer-Songwriter Series: The Music of Townes Van Zandt FINAL AIRING!

Today is Townes Van Zandt’s final turn as our featured singer-songwriter, but it won’t be the last time you hear from him here. We’ve gotten our hands on some great live performances. Tomorrow we’ll have a brand new singer-songwriter to introduce.

In between our only two pieces of programming today, we’ve got our big, wide Open Stream courtesy of The Music Mermaid. We never really know what she has in store for us. That’s entirely up to her, but we do know that she has impeccable taste in music.

We’re at Midweek With the ‘Water, Water Everywhere’ EP, Townes Van Zandt, and ‘live’ Creedence Later, June 28, 2023

Good morning, music lovers! We’ve got a great lineup for your midweek experience today, starting off with our ‘Water, Water Everywhere’ multi-artist EP!

Here’s the midweek musical lineup:

9:00 a.m. Water, Water Everywhere: Various Artists

I know I’ve give you all this factoid before, but the earth is composed of 71% water and it is a favorite topic of musicians in all of its forms. You’ll hear Paul McCartney, Deep Purple, Joe Cocker, Simon & Garfunkel, The Beatles, Bruce Springsteen, Jackson Browne, Otis Redding, The Doobie Brothers, Valerie Carter, Bob Dylan, Alison Krauss & Union Station, Al Green, Loggins & Messina, Bob Seger & The Silver Bullet Band, Linda Ronstadt, Spirit, The Grass Roots, The Beach Boys, Lindisfarne, Van Morrison, Bonnie Raitt, Carole King, Steely Dan, Tom Rush, Donovan, America, Johnny Rivers and more!

4:00 p.m. Singer-Songwriter Series: The Music of Townes Van Zandt

The second spin for Townes Van Zandt as our featured singer-songwriter, an artist whose musical talents have been compared to those of Bob Dylan.

8:00 p.m. Creedence Clearwater Revival Live at The Fillmore, San Francisco, July 4, 1971

As we approach the July 4th holiday, it’s only fitting that we play this great July 4th concert by CCR live from the iconic Fillmore in San Francisco.

We’re here 24/7 with all kinds of great music streaming non-stop and uninterrupted by capitalism, the killer of all good things. There’s no need for a subscription or a credit card. And we never require personal information. All you need is a free computer tab and functioning ears.

It’s Saturday in The Lounge With Our House Playlist EP, the Final Airing of Joni Mitchell’s AOW, and Townes Van Zandt’s Debut as Our Featured Singer-Songwriter, June 24, 2023

Good morning, weekenders! We have made it to Saturday and we’ve got a great lineup of music as we say Hello-Goodbye (a little Beatles imagery there) to Townes Van Zandt and Joni Mitchell. In between, we’ve got our great House EP.

Here’s your musical lineup:

9:00 a.m. Album of The Week: The Hissing of Summer Lawns by Joni Mitchell FINAL AIRING!

We say farewell to Mitchell’s great jazz-rock album today with a final airing. Tomorrow, we’ll have a brand new selection for you.

11:00 a.m. The #BecomeUngovernable House Playlist: Various Artists

One of the first playlists we created here includes the music that made us want to start this station with from the very beginning. You’ll hear Barry McGuire, The Temptations, Peter Tosh, The Beatles, Genesis, T-Rex, The Who, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Bob Dylan, Country Joe & The Fish, Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, Bob Marley & The Wailers, Joan Baez, CSNY, Pink Floyd, The Animals, Ten Years After, The Plastic Ono Band, George Harrison, Sam Cooke, The Rolling Stones, Joni Mitchell, Jimi Hendrix, Three Dog Night, Jimmy Cliff, Richie Havens, Marvin Gaye, The Association, Phil Ochs, Tom Rush, Pete Seeger, The Band, Nina Simone, Janis Joplin and more!

8:00 p.m. Singer-Songwriter Series: The Music of Townes Van Zandt NEW!

Although not a commercial success like Dylan, Townes Van Zandt is often put on the same pedestal. He was a prolific songwriter whose compositions are considered masterpieces of American songwriting, such as Pancho & Lefty, For The Sake of The Song, Tecumseh Valley and If I Needed You. His songs have been recorded by hundreds of artists, including Emmylou Harris (the absolute best version of Pancho & Lefty ever, IMO), Norah Jones, Guy Clark, Steve Earle, Gillian Welch, Lyle Lovett, Willie Nelson and Bob Dylan himself.

You’ve made it to the weekend, so why not celebrate with the little radio station that could. We’re not in it for the money. We’re in it for the music. I’m sharing my own personal juke box with the world. And best of all, we’re on 24/7 with no commercial advertising! Try us.
